Second body. Lol.![]()
It's the lens before the PF..AF-S is it? Yeah it's glued to my 1.4tc but I wouldn't have thought lens would have any impact on amount of noise anyway? But you're right that it's underexposed...I guess I should experiment with ETTR so as not to get as many darker areas which will show the noise more clearly.
Depending on my Christmas bonus I'm considering a d750 or d810 as a second body for dull days where I need to knock the ISO up.
just ordered one ...... a D7200 .......... I'm expecting my images will then be as good as @gramps ......... if not, it's his fault
(still reckon that it will not be a patch on the D750 cropped - but you never know)
soon be a D7100 and a lightly used D700 for sale along with a good D300 ....... if I can find the boxes ........ I need the space ........ why do I never want to sell any camera kit??
You might be surprised Bill![]()
Not long got me a D7200, dunno about anyone else but I'm loving the NFC. I like being able to share instantly, with little PP, it suits me down to the ground.

The remote shutter is a very cool feature, and I'm hoping that Nikon works on the app to add functionality. I've been using a Sony QX10 "lens camera" for a few years now that pushes live view to a smart device, and I love it. Get some wild perspectives, and even use it as a remote inspection camera. Brilliant. And it's only going to get better.I'm not using it to share but do like the idea that I can take photos using my phone since I don't have a remote release. It's brilliant that I can see live on my phone screen what my camera can see even from about 5 or more metres away! Also planning to use it as a remote release to hide from birds round a corner whilst still being able to see the birds and not scare them off.
Can I ask what you're transitioning from? For me it's a way of quickly and easily sharing images without messing with card readers and lightroom until later. It's more of a fun feature than anything else, but one that makes me enjoy my cameras more.is the NFC an easy transition,
I'm an android guy, but from what I can read online the iPhone 5c doesn't have NFC capability. My understanding too from fiddling with various iPhones is that like with Bluetooth, the NFC implementation apple uses is locked down to apple devices and standards only, for example iPay.ronnus
it will be from I phone 5c, I have downloaded the app, if I was reading it right you could be anywhere, and down load pics from camera to phone, then to say flickr,

I could be completely wrong and apple may have enabled NFC to work with an iOS Nikon app, but from the spec sheet the 5c doesn't do NFC in any way, so do some research before thinking about a D7200 if you intend using NFC functionality.

If it can't use NFC can't it do the same thing using the wifi connection? It's probably not as quick to set up but the output should be the same.As has been said not sure if it works with iPhone but the way it works is as you've described. Only trouble is the bloomin app won't close unless you kill the task which a loooot of people have been complaining about. Still pretty cool feature!
That's a very good point, NFC in this case triggers a local wifi connection between the two devices. Connecting manually should work between a Wi-Fi enabled phone/tablet and the camera. Props to rob-nikon for filling in my brain gaps!If it can't use NFC can't it do the same thing using the wifi connection? It's probably not as quick to set up but the output should be the same.
I seem to remember trying it out and doing it by wifi previously. It was a pain as you have to go through the camera menu and connect the tablet using the wifi setting menu but it's possible. I quite liked being able to check the images on a tablet rather than take the sd card out, but although the function is there it's probably not something I'm going to use much. I can see it being useful for others. That's a very good point, NFC in this case triggers a local wifi connection between the two devices. That sounds familiar, I've got an Eye-fi card in my Ricoh GR and although the card is fully supported by the camera, it involves much meddling with menus and disconnecting my home wifi to make it work.I seem to remember trying it out and doing it by wifi previously. Damn, that's a nice looking lens!It is THE sharpest zoom lens on DX. It's like having a bag full of primes. It weighs around 800g though so it's a fairly hefty beast. Focus isn't as fast as the 17-55 but it's a 'faster' and sharper lens all round. Quite a limited range though of 27-52mm equivalent.
Does anyone use the Sigma 30mm f1.4 art lens?
Damn, that's a nice looking lens!
You have to nail the exposure at higher ISO or it really magnifies the noise etcAnybody underwhelmed by noise/higher ISO? I upgraded from my d7000 to the d7200 as I felt my d7000 was giving too much noise even at 800. I read that the 7000 was known for being pretty noisy, but I'm also noticing it quite a lot at I SO 800 on the 7200 as well. Not as impressed as I'd hoped :/
If you have a decent memory card you won't have a buffer issueHi all, just got my D7200. I'll mainly be using it for aviation photography, so a decent buffer is always needed, especially at Airshows. So i'm interested to hear opinions on shooting in DX or 1.3 crop mode (using crop mode gives you a far better buffer) - Does it significantly impact on picture quality?
Thanks in anticipation.
Dave.

That's nikons method for any in camera crops. It was the same on the D800 but the dx box was even smaller.Yep, i tried it on my D7100... I soon switched back to normal 1.5x mode. If the VF displayed the 1.3x mode instead of just a thin line it would be a brilliant feature.
I've been really lazy of late with exposure and it's really show bad noise mainly around darker areas, lower ISO you can pull detail out of shadows no problem but no chance at higher ISOThanks I didn't know that. I've been out with it today and have been ETTR to lower the amount of noise visible. Seems to have worked although I only needed to go to 800 today seeing as it was a nice-Ish day
The crop mode was first introduced on the D7100 where the buffer was awful (dx mode was 6 images lossless 14-bit IIRC), the 1.3 crop mode increased the buffer a little to 8 images! It was a little better in 12 bit lossless RAW. The slight increase using the 1.3 crop mode was probably why nikon put it in. Nikon fx camera also had cropping modes at the time too.Hi all, just got my D7200. I'll mainly be using it for aviation photography, so a decent buffer is always needed, especially at Airshows. Thanks Rob and Adam, basically stick with DX mode and use a decent card - Now to get out there and practice.
I used that site for checking card performance - decided to go with the Kingston U3 90/80 MB/s cards at 64GB for slot 1 RAW and 32GB in slot 2 for JPEG.This site may be of help to you selecting memory cards.

They seemed the best compromise between performance and price to me and so far very happy with them![]()
That's good - my wife has shares in Amazon as she is employed by a subsidiaryMr Amazon is doing well from me at the moment!
