Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Just to update everyone & maybe help other peeps with the same problem. I spoke to nikon this afternoon who informed me that it might be my memory card.

I changed the card for a recommended Sandisk k had no errors so far.....will keep you all posted.

good to know TFS

Some nice photos
I just wish it would stop bloody raining and snowing so I can get out and put mine to use lol.

Good to see that 10-24 is doing you well Phil!! :D Lovely shots! I do miss it!

Guys are there 2 different versions of the Tokina 11-16? I'm leaning toward using the 35 f1.8 for most purposes during my Paris trip and adding an UWA but I've read there was a "newer" 11-16 as well as an older one.

There is a Mark II version available now,the main improvements are better lens coatings and a built in focus drive motor!

Placed the order today to get a D7000 from Wex, 547 with next day delivery (Including the cashback). Cant wait :D

Will have a 35mm f1.8, 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 and tomorrow a nice shiny new 150-500mm Sigma will also arrive.

Do these lenses sound good enough for the D7000 ? Selling my old D3100 to a friend if his gf lets him buy it.

Mine has arrived, been out on a test drive and I'm loving it......

Im looking forward to this weekend, almost tempted to not do any overtime just so I can go out with the 7000 and 150-500mm sigma :D 1st attempt @ wildlife, scary eeeep haha. Prolly find a cat and nothing else

Has anyone got the Sigma 17-50? Looking for a wider zooms for my trip to Paris and think the f2.8 would be of use but just wondered if anyone has it?

yes, it's fab :)

it's my preferred walkabout lens and rarely leaves the camera

Yep I went for that one, it's a great lens. Excellent built quality, it's really sharp and focuses well. If you can find a good price then go for it!

Apart from View NX2 I'm looking for a RAW converter for my files. It seems it may take a bit of time before ACDSee (my current PP platform) has 7100 support.

So what do you good folk use? or how dya work around it?

  • Download and install exiftool
  • Run the following command, substituting ‘FOLDER_NAME’ for the correct location
exiftool -model=”Nikon D5200” -ext nef FOLDER_NAME
Im sure it will be similar on Windows.

Some interesting comments on here. I should receive my D7100 today as I've ordered it as a DX backup to the D4 (which I still worship). Bought specifically on the hope that the high ISO performance is up there with the best. I'll let you know when I get it and compare with the D4.

Also ordered (and received) the Sigma 35mm 1.4. Seems to frontfocus on my D5100 a bit (which I'll be selling in the next couple of days due to 7100 arrival) but is super sharp even wide open (ignoring the vignette) on the D4.

D7000 Arrived today all shiny, very very different to the D3100. Time to RTFM I think as its like a phone book.

Good luck with it,i remember back when i got mine i printed and laminated small sheets to carry with me as there is a lot to take in.

so tempted to order one from wex but worried it might be a little too advanced for me, big learning curve but will be fun i guess

Get it and get this kindle book for £9
Thomas j Dennis d7000 digital field guide.

Big learning curve for me aswell, D3100 was very simple compared to this. But it isnt THAT complicated, you can get shooting with the camera set up pretty well in a few hours just by reading the forums. Even learn a few things!!! I learned I can now make them really annoying HDR pictures that you see people moan about automatically in the camera haha

Omg im joining the d7000 gang, this is going to be a very steep learning curve not only going from sony but an a330 to my first every nikon, to a lot more advanced camera lol

This may take some time, cant wait for the summer. cant wait for it to arrive in the next few days

Lots of new converts coming over the D7000 lately - its a great camera I'm sure you will all fall in love with. It can be daunting but stick with it - its worth it;)

For me at first the buttons don't seem in the right places for my fingers, some seem a little awefully placed. Il get used to it though, I saw the options on the d7000 and damn I was shocked, sooooo much you can do

On that site he keeps going on about buying his set up files, do people actually do that? Is it worth it to get a camera that has settings that somebody who actually knows what there talking about has used ? There onlt £5

no
no good just applying someone elses setup without understanding what you've set.
how are you going to rectify faults in your picture if you do not know what focus, metering, area modes you are using?

Read and learn, then try
Record results for given settings and situation
Remedy
Repeat

Hi all

Have a d5100 at the moment, and getting tempted to upgrade to a d7000 especially with the £100 cashback at the moment

Is it worth it? What extras benefits will I get from the d7000 over the d5100?

Thanks :)

What's everyone's thoughts on the auto focus, is it a lot better than the d7000? How good is it for moving wildlife? I'm considering getting a d7100 as a second body to use also side a d7000 with a 300 f4 on one and a 70-200 f2.8 vr1 on the other. I've got quite a lot of trips over April, May and June so I'm thinking it may be worth getting sooner than waiting for a price drop in the summer. I'm also thinking of a d600 but the lower auto focus system and very small AF point area is putting me off as a wildlife camera.

There has been report of 'banding' in shadows when correcting underexposed shots like the D5200. Can someone with a D7100 do an experiment to verify this by underexposing a shot by say 3-stops, then increase the exposure during PP.

Many thanks.
