Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Ordered mine today, should arrive before 1pm tomorrow..whoop whoop:)

I concur, just tried a CH series on my 7100 (not purchased for that mind) and I get consistently 6 frame before the buffer fills. Nothing to do with card as it's got an extreme pro in it rated @ 95MBs.

What size file ? jpeg large? Raw?

Haven't downloaded the files yet as I'm waiting for the imminent camera RAW update, rather than modify the NEF headers to something like a 5200. The files were shot in RAW though.

Hi Doug, when exiftool amends the metadata it creates a copy and amends that. Ive still got all my originals for when lightroom gets d7100 support.

Can anyone please help, trying to shoot tethered with LR4. Using original USB cable that came with the camera, can browse the D7000 memory cards through explorer but LR4 tethered does not see the camera. Latest version LR and camera raw installed.
Please help !

I've got a feeling you need to install some other bit of software from Nikon for this to work...

should work with lightroom. Think issue is with usb driver. Strange it works in explorer but not lightroom.
Anyone shoot tethered in lightroom ?

Thanks. TBH as it's my 2nd body I'm not in a huge rush to process anything from it. I go on holiday in 4 weeks and I'll be taking the 7100 rather than the D4 for obvious reasons so as long as I've got RAW support by then I'll be happy.

Fingers crossed, but i think there was a 3 month delay between the d600 launch and adobe releasing 4.3.

THe d7100 maybe quicker as the sensor seems to be the same as the d5200, but who knows...

If that is the case then I'll defo be using your exif trick. ;)

I tried lr4 when I upgraded, it worked ok, but I now use the free software
http://www.digicamcontrol.com/
which works a treat and is actually much better than the nikon offering at over £100+ ( i think thats the price )
D7000 recognised straight away.

but only works in Windows ( uses microsoft .net framework )

will have a look thanks, running windows 7 pro 64bit.

Really frustrates me when different reviews totally contradict the capabilities of a camera. Just read 2 reviews - one claims no noise up to ISO6400, the other that noise begins at ISO400. Aaarghh...... Think I'll hang fire until I hear some real word usage comments.

Dpreview posted their studio comparison about a day ago. You can now compare the noise via their interactive tool vs other cameras. I took at a look and think it's accurate. I'd say I'm seeing about 1.5 stops worse high ISO performance (circa 3200-6400) than the D4, which is still very good for a DX body.

Tethering is fine for me, also on Windows 7 64bit. I use NKRemote now as I found Lghtroom a bit lacking.

Thanks for that Doug. Still undecided as most of my use is sports and the only outstanding concern I have now is the buffer.

Impressed by the shots with the kit lens though.

Thanks for confirmation, must be usb driver. I have never installed any Nikon software but might try the disk that came with the camera to get the right driver.

On the one hand the AF system is great as it's the same as the one on the D4 which I regularly test and still find it very accurate even at 10fps. But yes the buffer is not great admittedly. Is it an own goal from Nikon or clever product placement? You never quite know with Nikon.....

I would go with this reason :D

DXO has published the Nikon D7100's sensor result and it does well at 83 but just 1 point under the Nikon D5200 which scored 84

Love the camera.
Love Amazons customer service, its £17 cheaper elsewhere but I think Amazon are worth the extra, plus got ND delivery for free.

Hey, did you receive your camera?

Looking to order mine today hopefully. Can I ask where you ordered from?

Hi

Bought it from Amazon £642 paid for next day before 1pm delivery an extra £8.99. Arrived at about 10.30 am. Had a quick try so far so good

New user signing in :) My D7000 purchased form Amazon yesterday and arrived today.
My girlfriend drove to my office so I could get started with it straight away.
I've come from a D70 to a D200 to this and like the feel of it already, just small enough that I will be able to take it everywhere I think.

Cheers, have browsed threads on here before but thought it was about time I started posting too.
Just form this page I've found out about digicam control (already downloaded and working) and the two year warranty, neither of which I was aware of, so thanks to the people who posted those.
Will be reading this thread through properly later.

How much difference does card speed make? I'm currently using 2 8gb Sandusky extreme hd video 30Mb/s cards and I'm wondering if I would be better off with using the Sandusky extreme pro 95Mb/s card instead. Both are class 10.

As file size is bigger I'm wondering if changing up to 16gb cards would be good also. The d7100 says 191 shots on an empty card compared to the 291 shots on the d7000. I've never liked having one big card so I would go for 2 smaller cards (8 or 16gb) rather than one big one.

There are reports that the 95mb/s are better thatn the 45mb/s for clearing the buffer. Unfortunately i dont have any to check...

Yes, if you go for the 90mb/s you ll notice a big difference in comparison to your 30mb/s cards.

Chaps,

How easy is it to switch on/off auto-iso on the D7000? Can it be programmed on a button at all for easy switching?

Its a right pain in the backside having to go into the menus to do it on the D3100.

Thanks.

You can set it up to be the first item in your custom menu, so it would be nothing more than a couple of button presses away, or you could set it up to your fn button at the front. One button press.
