Nikon D7xxx owners thread

If it does get released and is classed as a pro body as the D300s is, the order probably would go:

D4
D800
D400
D600
D7100 and so on..

Agree. If it has the same D800 body and features then it will sit at the bottom of Nikon's pro range.

I know nikons marketing strategy has previously been a little random (d90 d700 d3) but they are finally getting the models and numbers in order. Can you really see a marketing strategy going 600,400, 800? If there is to be a d300 replacement surely being called something like d8000/d9000 would make sense. This would let them seperate dx and fx with a cross over between the dx and fx between the d7100-d600 and d?-d800 cameras. the dxxxx series being dx, dxxx series fx and dx the flag ship. The dx range would be entry to pro and the fx range entry-pro-flagship. It would give clear upgrade paths too.

Hopefully this debate will be concluded sooner rather than later, although its been going on now for too many years. I'm hoping for a d300 replacement and there seems to be a gap in the odd numbers for it too, fingers crossed its announced before focus next week otherwise the nikon stand is going to be answering the same question all the time.

Find it funny that Amazon have actually increased the price of the D7000.....
Looking for a little lens advise! Only one I have is the 35 1.8G and will probably add the 50 1.8G as well but just wondering what I should be looking at wider?

Possibly thinking about another wider prime perhaps in the 20-24mm range and then adding an UWA lens for when I need it (8-16, 10-20 or 11-16?)

UWA I'm happy with and would possibly go for the cheapest Sigma 10-20 as I've had a adele on other bodies but in regards to a prime in the 20-24 range which one is worth buying?

Anyone????

Give's a little more hope. By the time I have the money together for a new camera I should have a better picture.

An interesting description of the d7100 on nikon site:-

As a middle-class DX-format D-SLR, it features a highly sophisticated design, which satisfies pride of ownership.

My emphasis. Not sure how that aligns with nikon usa describing the 7100 as the 'The new flagship of Nikon's DX-format HD-SLR lineup. '

You didn't bother reading the linked DPR thread then?

'Twould seem the Nikon UK/Europe people are better informed than their US counterparts, unless you take the view that the d7100 is the current DX flagship model, but doesn't necessarily mean it won't be demoted once the new DX flagship model is announced - the d400 (or d9000?)

If they happen to bring out another DX body ... calling it the D9000 will not make the D400 brigade stop!! Whatever it is to be, please Nikon, for the sake of all that is good, call it the D400!! :thankyou: :D

The D400 brigade (henceforth known as The TPWI) can call the D9000 whatever they like, if it'll shut their pieholes for a couple of years. :dummy:

It wont shut them though, not if it's not called the D400. I wish they had just called the D7100 the D400 to end it all.

I find the change in attitude especially funny as soon as there is the tiniest ounce of hope that there will be a "D400" or whatever it will be called..."IF" if is called that is bahaha.

"THE D7100 IS THE WORST THING EVER!!"

.....Shimmer of hope (an email confirming they don't actually know what the future plans are).

"I can't wait until they annouce it...I wonder what they'll call it!? I wonder if it will be everything the D7100 is but in a "professional" body...I wonder where it will sit?! I wonder if I will divorce my wife and marry the D400!!!"

LOL Sorry folks...couldn't resist! :naughty:

I think the only worthwhile upgrade to be had for my D90 is much higher ISO.
D7000 1,167 ISO vs D90 977 ISO I don't think these camera's offer that. I'd need to go full frame to get a stop and a half of a difference. D700 2,303 ISO.
I think the D90 will do me until the d700, 2nd hand, comes down in price.

The more time spent worrying about when such a body will be released, means less time enjoying what you have and just getting out there to shoot with it!

Only gear heads will worry about some body they have yet to bring out ... not true photographers.

Everyone bangs on about the D7000 being much better at ISO noise but as you can see from the figures, it's only a third of a stop better...

Could I ask where these figures come from please?

Wondering how my D3100 stacks up as its bugging me that a D7000 would be a step up in ISO. :D

D7000 brings high dynamic range and maybe more useful, weatherfproofing.

Honestly can't believe Nikon haven't addressed the buffer issue or at least increased it in line with the new sensor so it provides similar performance. It's two years since the D7000 was launched and the buffer was one of it's most criticised features....surely the cost of memory in that time has come down enough to enable them to increase it's spec?

Appear to be few bell ends on here offering little in the way of sensible or constructive comments.

That's the least constructive comment in here yet! come on, please don't drag it down by slagging others off. Good man.

Having played with my D7000 the only real annoyance I can find, is that the ISO button position is a bit stupid. I know you can change it to the function button, but you still can't rotate it on the dials. :-(

I'm always finding that I press the function button, and then realise I can't actually change the ISO this way, quite annoying.

Easy ISO. Ok it hides the remaining frames but in aperture priority it makes life a ton easier.

The placement of ISO buttons on nikons is something that bugs me. It should be next to the exp comp button like on canon cameras.

There's a setting that means when in A or S the other dial can be used to just dial the ISO up and down. The down side is the ISO display replaces the remaining shot count so to see that you need to open the info button. Also in manual mode where you need both buttons you're back to the ISO button, and the ISO is still displayed not the shot counter.

If you want I can find the setting but it's in the manual.

Yep i got the figures from snapshot.if you google a camera vs another camera snapshot will be close to the top of the list.
Yeah Zarch, that's what i was saying. I can print canvases 36" x 26" easily, so there's no real advantage. There are a few things that may be nice to have but their not needed. Especially if you're paying twice the price. I'd like to go full frame but until the prices comes down for 2nd hand I'll stick to my D90.

Come on, the thread has escalated into something quite funny...I think it went downhill when the D400 crew started slagging off the D7100 because they wasn't going to get their new toy (or so they thought) and now there is hope the rumors are beginning to emerge again.

It should have been a discussion about the D7100 from the start and probably would have been quite a good one...but like I said...the D400 crew...
