Hello,

Currently I own a Nikon D7000, and today was offered the above body (from a friend's friend) for just over £500, with a shutter count of 50,000. Appreciated my current lens collection will not work on this camera, and I would need to look for lenses also.

My question is, is this a good price for the camera, and should I be worried with the shutter count? As far as I can tell the camera itself is in pretty neat condition and have been told it works perfectly fine.

Bit of a panic as I don't want to loose a good deal (if this is one) as I will need to sell my gear after the purchase.

Yes, had a look at it today, was going to snap his hand off but the shutter count scared me... not too sure if that is a high count.
 
£500..... Buy it.

Camera will do at least another 100,000!
 
Shutter is tested to 150,000 so it's done 1/3rd of it's tested life ... how long would it take you to do 100,000 shots with it (assuming it last to 150,00 or doesn't go to 300,000)? :)
 
50k is not high at all really, a shutter could fail at any time. As long as it fully functioning and not damaged, the price is practically a gift.
 
Don't think because a shutters rated for 150k that it will last that. A new shutters a couple hundred so even if you factor that it's a decent enough deal.
 
Go for it. You will be amazed at the difference from your D7k.

Just a few things though, ask him for the serial number and check on Nikons website to see if it affected by the various issues earlier ones suffered from such as flare and shading etc. Make sure the AF is good and if so go straight to the bank and withdraw 500 notes and pay the man!

It's a steal at that price, but that is also so cheap that I would be relatively interested to know why it is that cheap! Always good to ask.
 
Just get the serial number and run it through the Nikon UK website to see if it's been affected by either the Flair / shutter issue or both . Also check the tripod bush to see if it has a black dot. £500 is a good price but there has to be a reason why this is so cheap.
 
I would also try to check its history at that sort of price - seems a bit too good to be true. Not meaning to cast any doubt on your friends friend but could it have been acquired through less than legitimate circumstances?

I agree that you should check the background, but this reads ( to me at least ;)) that you are saying the shutter and flare issues are reasons not to buy it. My camera is one of those that is marked as being affected but I haven't been able to reproduce either issue and so it wouldn't necessarily put me off tbh. If the seller is the original owner and the camera is one if those affected it would be worth asking them to send it off first. It's free postage after all.

Just had a word with my friend, he will confirm if this is one of those and will also get me the serial number. If this is the case, am I right asuming that I can then contact Nikon and arrange a repair?

If yes, then counting the notes as we speak.

I always do background checks on items like these, and when stuff is this cheap.
 
I have had another word with the guy, and what I had missed when checking the camera is there are 2 bubbles on the rear screen, however these do not casue any probs to the lcd screen or camera. Wish I had seen this before and also had a photo to show.

I believe so but you may need to go through your friend if it is registered in his name. I'm not sure how it works tbh as mine isn't affected. It's free P&P and anyone who owns one that falls into the s/n remit could be eligible for a free repair regardless of whether you are the original owner or not. I'm not certain how Nikon deal with it mate.

Very odd, not sure what would cause that unless it has a screen protector on. Did he say what had caused the bubbles? Just wondering if there's water damage or something that may have caused other underlying problems? There's generally a reason why things are cheap.
 
Going over to see him in the morning and will find out then.
 
Might as well chip in - double check its the screen protector that has bubble - almost certainly will be unless they work in an active volcano!

As to the price, if you don't want it I do ;)

To those who've sent in for repair, I don;t suppose the sensor is one of the bits replaced is it? That would be a real coup!
 
Had a quick word this morning, the body seems to be the "K" version (no wifi) ? And also the bubbles are actually screen damage (top left corner and top right corner ), but doesn't have any impact
 
Sounds like a version designed for Korea ... would want to investigate the cause of the bubbling.
 
Are you sure it's 'bubbling'? I've seen Nikon screens with slight chips to the rear screen. Wouldn't be much to worry about if that was the case and they were confined to the corners so not affecting the view.
 
Sounding more and more undesirable by the minute to me. That being said it's only £500. I didn't even know they did a non wifi version, I thought they see the same regardless of market.

I'd personally give it a miss, but I like to play safe.
 
Okay have had a look at the camera properly now, and here is how it stands

It's a Nikon D750 (K) Model with 50,000 count

K) Being non wifi -(no big deal my eyefi card can resolve this).

There are 2 slight chips to the rear screen, but again do not effect the camera/screen in any form.

Other than that there is nothing wrong with the camera at all, the serial number proofs to be a later model (also clear(y)) and therefore I presume it isn't effected.

I am now going to try and negotiate a better price, even then I believe given the asking price it would be stupid not to.

I'd go for it. By the way, afaik, your existing lenses will still work in "crop" mode. It seems a very fair price already.

Canon do a non wifi 6D version too,seems to be a typical for some countries.

OK, if everything adds up then it may be worth a punt. I'd recommend taking some test shots and testing the AF thoroughly as it sounds as though it may have been knocked about a bit if the LCD's chipped. These cameras can take a fair amount of abuse though.

You can, but it's not ideal. It's not that intuitive making sure you're framing within the box on the focus screen, and it's only 10mp so not ideal if you need to crop. I personally wouldn't buy a camera I didn't have any 'native; lenses for, but each to their own. I had to start with little when I upgraded to the D750 but managed to pick up the 28-105mm and 70-300mm cheap, and the 50mm f1.8 is only £130 new. These kept me going for a while before I could upgrade to better lenses.
 
He's doing you a good deal already don't take the P and try knock him down even further.
