Nikon D750 & D780

Nice review, thanks. Disappointing to hear that the 1.4 is softer at 1.8 than the 1.8 as I don't rate that wide open :(

DXO have the 1.4g 1 point sharper but reviews seem to favour the 1.8g.

Apparently the 1.4g makes for dreamier portraits, but not really convinced.

Shame it's a bit slow to focus too. Maybe they will release a new version, but doubt it!

Down that beach again with the 24-85 and it's distortion. I took some beachscapes to pass the time.

Nice reflection in the 2nd.

Completely unrelated to the above, Dave, but I just checked out your blog - 'Gone out' is as brilliant as it is bonkers! Loved it! :D

How do you find the 24-85? I'm thinking of getting a lightweight lens for when I don't want to use the 24-70.
That's what I use it for. Apart form it making horizon's curved I find it very good for the price. And it's lovely and light.

The Bakkhai (Euripides) by Paul, on Flickr[/URL]

I had the privilege of helping photograph a local university's production of "The Bakkhai," a Greek tragedy originally written by Euripides. It was one continuous scene, so to speak, and was quite challenging with the lighting and movement of the players. It was an interesting experience. To say that it challenged the abilities of the D750 is an understatement. The camera was on auto ISO, I shot aperture priority and ISOs ended anywhere from around 1500 to 256000. This was one of the lower ISOs at 1400. It was focussing on things in virtual darkness. What an amazing camera!

It is certainly staggering for its low light capability for sure - I shot a wedding recently and the Church was a quite poorly lit - I set auto iso up to 10000 and the noise was so soft it was unreal. Surely though the noise at 256000 must have been fairly unusable though?

True, Terry. I'm very sure that those will be binned. I'm just amazed that it was able to create an image in those conditions.

OK - went to Bath today - weather overcast and no 24-85 lenses for sale in either shop.
Did come away with a shot I've wanted for ages though - there are normally cars in the way but today the road was blocked off :)
Not the best shot by any means but was good to have a play with the D750 outside.

We've had tickets to Bristol "Zoo" that we had to use before the expired, so popped down there today. It's mighty difficult to get a decent shot when shooting through filthy glass (the enclosures, not my lens!) - these were the pick of the bunch.

This one is a pretty massive crop...

It's part of the Imagenomic package. It come with a PS plugin called Portraiture," Noiseware and one other.
Never heard of any of those lol (barring PS)

They're along the same lines as the Nik collection of photoshop plugins. "Real grain" is the other one of the Imagenomic products. I usually default to Nik but some of these have a lot of noise in them so I thought I'd give Noiseware a shot. It handles the noise beautifully!

Might give it a look. Still not used Nik yet though, had it for about 12 months too ;)

You're very lucky to have wild seals on your doorstep (y)
Yeah, we definitely are. They're there all year round, couple of hundred of them just chilling on the beach for the most part.

There's volunteer wardens there because people are idiots. Someone last year tried to sit their toddler on a seal so they could get a pic...

The Time Machine backups didn't exactly work out too well especially with Adobe CC. Had to manually reinstall most of it again. Still getting my head around working with smart previews, kind of works but I seem to have to connect to the pictures first then unplug, negating booting straight into LR without plugging in the main external drives? Anyway, enough for today, just realised I haven't saved my PS setup. Here's the first pic off the laptop, finally outside earlier and she's discovered stones..

I've never had an issue with time machine tbh, always worked perfectly for me.

Nice pic (y)
