Nikon D750 & D780

So did a last minute wedding today at registry office and after party and took along 35/85 combo and not sure it's the way forward for such venues!

I found with the 35 that I was either in the face of people for portraits (not enough room for 85) or it was really tight getting everything in shot. Couldn't really use the 85 at all during ceremony as couldn't get far enough back. To top things off the lighting was terrible!

Was the same at after party with 35, it was just that little bit too long at times.

I think at any other venue it would have been ok, but thinking something just a tad wider might be better.

That's nice Pete. It's a flower that we don't have but want. I can remember my Grandma having all the different colours in her garden.

Cheers David,
Once you've got it, it self seeds and flowers every year.

Well thinking I'll have a play with old manual lenses, not abandoning the D750 obviously (unless you count the Tamron 150-600 I'm selling to fund it) but I did used to enjoy in viewer magnification and focus peaking on the E-M1, but missed the full frame pop, so A7 it must be :)

Hope it's fun, looking forward to figuring out every existing camera mount and finding adapters!

A bit of mono in a morning...

Sunset/sunrise didn't happen so we're doing the family thing instead. Gonna give the 70-200 a run out! :jawdrop:
And it's been a lovely morning around here too  Family pics are a good second choice though I guess ;)

Just about to set off to Donington, will see what rubbish I come up with. Aim for today is to get at least one sharp slow pan shot ;)

Looking forward to a few days out with the family, another from last weekend (Linds cut my feet off tho ha)

(Am I missing a trick here, can't copy bcc code from the phone and it's a b****r to copy it all off the pad?)

Isn't that what you bought the 24-70 for? That is where it excels!

Anyway, thought you'd sold the 35/85? Again?

Yep but recovering from shoulder injury so just been going light for a while whilst it repairs. Always had a 35 1.8g and borrowed and 85 for the day, but it rarely got used.

800+ photos to sort through now including some fairly rude ones more suited to a hen do!

It is strange and the only time I found such a bokeh. it was shot as jpeg so no processing added.

I guess it could be just position of relative subjects.

Who knows Ani`. Strange phenomenon happens sometimes. Filters can cause odd things to happen as well.

Just remember... 1/8 is where it's at. Aim for 1/4 at 18mm on the inside of redgate.

Hit rate at 1/25's bad enough, with and without monopod  :$ God knows how you get 1/8

Widest I have is 24mm. 70-200 is definitely easier to pan than the 150-600 ;)

Mucking around after breakfast... but if I'm taking the time to set up the lights, I really should take 2 minutes longer to get the backdrop out!

Ahh a proper little princess, that's lovely Paul.

I don't think that would be too much work to replace the background if you feel the need. The only slight element I'm not sure about is the kicker on the hair, but being very picky.

Thanks Tim and Kris. I wanted the backlit hair but I agree. I'm now not sure on it - it's a bit too much.

Lighting was a pair of softboxes pointing at one another, almost perpendicular to her, she's probably a foot behind the leading edge of both. The one frame left is slightly broader, which you can just make out from the catchlight on that side (especially her left eye).

Could you try and knock it down a bit in PS/LR

Definitely failed at 1/8. 1/25's my limit :(

I managed to get over to Skomer Island last Friday for my annual pilgrimage. It's such a stunning place to visit although the wind made it very tricky to keep a lock on the birds in flight (they were like little cruise missiles!). :D

Here's a few of my favourites from the day...

So, the Siggy 50mm f/1.4 Art... what's it like? How much better is it than the Nikon 1.8 (I have the old AF-D) on a scale of "a lot" to "infinitely"?

Coz I might have gone and done something silly with an apparent bargain :(

Turn that frown upside down mate. It's in a league all by itself. Worth the money and the weight. Just be prepared to buy the dock aswell. Again, that is worth its weight in gold imo.

So spent what seems like all day editing my images. Its the first time I have ever shot RAW only so has been a good experience. This was a few shot but they fed me well and even gave me some money this evening after seeing the photos. Overall it was a great learning experience and gave me the opportunity to put the D750 through its paces. Its given me inspiration going forward and it was a really good insight to what focal lengths work in particular situations.

It was quite a laid back casual affair and there were hardly any opportunities to take many photos after as we were shipped off the steps pretty quickly as the next party arrived! So I went back to the after party for 'an hour' which turned in to 4 lol. I spent most of the time talking with guests and taking lots of fun and candid pics. I can't show many as apart from a few I posted on Facebook as per request of the couple.

That's a beauty David.

I'm genuinely intrigued to see how much better a particular lens can be in terms of rendition, bokeh etc. Because if I'm honest, I don't think my photography and use of light is "ready" yet for it... basically I'm probably getting 25% out of my current kit at best, so struggling to see it'll be worth it.

But absolute worst case scenario, I get to use the lens for a bit, decide my photography can't justify it and then stick it up on the classifieds here... it hopefully won't be an expensive lesson learnt!

Well would you use a different lens lineup next time?

If you like the FL and are happy with a lens that weighs nearly as much as a 24-70 does then you'll fall in love with it. The sharpness when dialled in is pretty incredible. I read some stuff about the bokeh not being very nice but from my testing it all seems in order. Don't get me wrong, the bokeh ain't no 58 noct but it's pleasant to my eyes.
