Nikon D750 & D780

Menu a3 - Focus Tracking with lock on.

Can be set to Long (setting 5) or Short (setting 1 )
When using continuous af, adjusts the time the camera will ignore objects getting in the way.

At least I think that's what you mean?

Aye, that's it. No idea if it's of any use to you with what you're struggling with.

That's not a focus limiter though is it, just how long the tracking 'sticks' to a subject before locking onto something else? AFAIK the D750 has no focus limiter.

No, but you said you were struggling with the lens up against fencing. If the AF is getting confused then perhaps this setting will help keep it locked on the target rather than trying to refocus.

Unless I've understood you wrong?

Thanks. You didn't misunderstand no, but it wasn't locking on at all in the first place so having AF lock on didn't make any difference tbh. I'm sure it was just some anomaly like the 'type of fence, or angle I was shooting at. I can't see if being hard to figure out if it happens again tbh, plus thinking about it I have shot through fences before with it.

Might even end up with some 'funky' bokeh artefacts like this  (although this was with the 70-200mm)

Went with the sensible Tammy option, well, I hope it is. Probably end up with a VR2 at some point knowing me.

Tbf I think I have pretty much everything covered now. This option means I can keep the 150-600 too, just need to use that one now. Got RIAT on Friday which was why I bought it, very different for me that.

Don't think you'll be disappointed with the Tammy tbh. Would love to go to RIAT.

I haven't as much as opened my camera bag this last 2 weeks, time for nothing except working 7am to 8pm, working today too and I hate working Saturday's. Away to the coast for 4 nights next weekend though.

If it's any consolation Phil I'm a bit like that. Having to have a catch up this morning too with paperwork [emoji20]

Hoping to get out a little more this weekend, not sure where though. Sunset could be on the cards or perhaps a sunrise tomorrow.

Any ideas? Peak District preferably as it's not too far.

I have just spent almost 3 hours cutting hedges in the pouring rain, paperwork almost sounds better:confused:. 5 lawns to mow now, then home.

Love the expression there. I have also noticed this kind of funny bokeh with the 85 1.8G. Not sure if this effect is more prominent with the modern lenses.

Isn't that bokeh behind the tiger due to shooting through a fence though?
If not, it's not exactly pleasing bokeh ( for portraits ) :exit:

Yes, I've only had it when shooting through fences but only with my 70-200mm. Not sure if it's a modern lens thing, wide aperture thing or what. Doesn't happen every time either.

There is quite a bit about this phenomena on t'interweb.
Culprits discussed include:- using VR, not using VR, Diffraction, filters, heat haze, reflections, gauge of wire, distance, aperture, etc,etc....

In other words, I don't think any-one knows !

Definitely only caused by shooting through fencing in my case. The fencing was rigid metal 'strands' in vertical and horizontal orientation rather than the wire diamond shaped mesh.

Am I really describing types of mesh fencing lol

:agree: Moving on.....
Screen protector recommendations anyone? :)

As mentioned before, I noticed something similar with the 85 1.8 g shot at F4 with D5100 and all I can remember is there was a branch of the tree behind. The bokeh is odd

Whoa that is very strange bokeh ... Was the branch moving of something? Maybe enhanced in processing.

It is strange and the only time I found such a bokeh. it was shot as jpeg so no processing added.

I guess it could be just position of relative subjects.

A kit kens portrait taken in Delhi haat. I had to crop a lot to get rid of the distraction. Couldn't make it any wider.

Something supernatural going on there ;)

To take a leaf out of Anirban's book...

Mrs pjm1 was out this evening so I was cooking for the kids, which always means lamb as they ask for it every time. My own recipe based on a Indian/French fusion: spiced lamb, turmeric new potatoes and broccoli tossed in a light masala sauce.

I need to arrange my plate better and find a more suitable chopping board/table to use :(

Always used expert shield.

Not the cheapest or easiest to put on but in the very rare time it's not gone on great they've sent me another one.

Really can't tell they're on and don't damage the screen quality. I didn't bother with the top lcd protector that it came with.
