Nikon D750 & D780

Had some currys vouchers and bought it part/part - changed mind and if takes back can still only get the vouchers back. Would prefer the cash. Warranty not registered. I wanted it myself but have had to sell lenses to keep mine so is a no go!

Ah ok, I'll leave it I think.

Regardless of the slightly higher than recent Panamoz prices. The bundle with 24-70 works out £550 cheaper than UK purchases, think thats where the good money saving is,

Too right - grey is always going to be cheaper so make sense!

You'll love that combo. It feels like a slightly larger version of what you have now.

Size isnt everything. I hope it delivers too! ;-)

Have a bit of a go at the weekend with the D750 and 70-200mm VR2.. The lens is my dad's but cannot believe the clarity of the images.. it's like HD.. also my 35mm f/2 is producing clear results at F/2.. buffer was slow when writing multiple shots, so just ordered 2 x Kingston 64 GB SDHC UHS-1 U3 cards for it..

Apart from posting/uploading your own personal images here, just wondering if anyone has bought a photographic print that they've liked either from here or anywhere else to be displayed in their home ?

Just curious.

Yep, I have one in my kitchen of Piccadilly Circus on 5 canvases that make one picture.

Blimey @JJ!, how many friends who buy D750s then sell them soon after, do you have?

That's about the fifth one by my reckoning! :ROFLMAO:
All with Curry's vouchers too  :p

I haven't, but I do want to get a couple of canvases done - if you're thinking about it, Peter, would be interested to hear where you get them from. The guys who advertise here (Tradecanvasprint) seem to come highly recommended.

What battery life do folk get out of the D750? I was expecting mine to be much better than it is. Admittedly I tend to leave the camera turned on when I put it down during a shoot and shooting (wired) tethered really seems to drain it. Does VR make a difference? I seem to getting about 400 shots over 5 hours before I need to change. Wifi is off, btw.

I haven't done an exhaustive test shooting non-tethered but I suspect that's rather better.

Battery life doesn't seem to be as good as my D7200 or D300's but I've never really 'measured' it. Day out on Anglesey last week and the 750 was switched on for 14 hours and in that time I took approx 300 photos which were saved as RAW and jpg. Had the sunset been more interesting I was at the point of changing the battery even though there was still charge showing.

My daughter deciding to have a play of her friends ukulele ... Just a snap, but am liking the 105 for this kind of stuff. Might even part with the 85 if it doesn`t see much use.

I was shopping in London yesterday with my other half and popped in to John Lewis. They have a good selection - I was trying out a D750 with 50 f1.4 when the assistant asked me if I had seen the D500? I said no, to which he responded that they had just received one and would I like to have a look? :) The phrase 'do bears.......in the woods' came to mind and I think the other staff members were just as excited to see it.

Even though this is a D750 thread I must say that the D500 is an absolutely amazing camera. The build quality, materials, and ergonomics are just fantastic, and firing off 10 fps is something I'd never experienced before. It looks like a next generation camera even before you use it.

I'd say that this is very firmly geared towards fast sports/action and for me, this is a niche camera. I think a used D7200 is absolutely fine for most DX shooters in most situations. For me, I wouldn't be able to justify a D500 since I don't do much action photography; the D750 would still be a better choice. However, both D750 and D500 are very much future-proofed cameras and I can see some people using both.

The d500 is an interesting one, DXO have scored it and it's very interesting.

The d7200 is only 14 months older so I wasn't expecting it to be ground breaking on ISO but other than build and FPS it does beat the d7200. When the hype started about the d500 ISO was going to be amazing and a stop better than the d7200 or even better than a full frame camera I was very sceptical. I was expecting a minor improvement, not nearly the same performance.

It's a nice camera for sure but the price is extortionate atm. And ISO performance doesn't seem all that good to me.

The crazy thing is you can get a d750 and a d7200 used (namely new too if you go grey) for the price of a d500.

I paid £1375 for the D750 with 24-120 middle of January, its £1590 now. Think its the exchange rate and there was an earth quake which affected production, so reduced supply = higher prices
The exchange rate due to referendum and Nikon putting their prices up in the new year too are probably the reasons.

Battery life for me depends what I'm doing. If it's wildlife it will last about 2 days. If landscapes where live view and long exposures are often used it's likely to be at least one battery per day.

I'm off to skomer in a few weeks, I'm taking 5 batteries just in case. It's possible to charge batteries on the island there are only 2 sockets and a photography workshop is staying too. 2sockets between 16 people (most of whom are photographers doesn't work so well)

Over 1000 shots. I leave it on but it does go to sleep fairly quickly. I do chimp now and again.

Yep, considering the hype and initial tests I was expecting better tbh, a little bit disappointing considering. Still, DR is considerably better than the D5

That is crazy when you put it like that

Part chop it for the 135...

135 has always been on my "want" list, but I can`t really justify it, as I don`t do much people stuff. I know it`s a very creative lens though :) 85 and 105 are just a little closely grouped imo. I got 20mm, (old 24mm which I hardly use), 35mm, 85mm and now 105mm. Of course not counting the big lump of a Tamron ;)

Flog the 24 and the 85 and you could be half way there!

Haha, I`d probably get about £50 tops for the 24 mate, so not quite. Besides I like a bit of macro now and then ;)

The Samyang 135/2 would be an excellent contender alright, it receives excellent write-up's.

That's an interesting device. If I hadn't already got the batteries I would have thought of something like that. Last year I had 4 batteries and only used 2 up between 2 cameras so it should be fine ;) I've only ever purchased 2 spare batteries, the rest have come with cameras bought on here! I've ended up labelling them to get an idea of which have been used of not.
