Nikon D750 & D780

some low life have taken all my camera gear, D750 kit, 50mm 1.4G sb910 etc

insurance have offered cash settlement, debating to get the D750 again or D810. I must say I do miss having the camera :(

if I get the D750 again, think I might start with a 85mm. any of you kind people know any good deal for the D750 at the moment?

Tell me to mind my own business, but I think you've nailed the long lens portrait pretty well. Maybe shooting a bit wider might add a bit more context?
Adam, don't mind at all your comments, rather I am glad that you shared your thoughts and thanks for that. This is something I have heard as a feedback from some of my other tog friends as well.

I have two challenges that I need to overcome - one is a limitation other is a habit or you can say preference.

Limitation: Most of the shots I have taken of my daughter are not set up for photography, rather taken in candid moments at places where there is too much of background random stuff. We live in a very small flat in London and space is really tight. Some of the shots outside are taken in fairs and crowded areas where I had to remove the distraction. We are moving to our first home where I will get more space to shoot and will consider this as something to focus.

Habit or preference: Somehow I have a tendency to crop portraits too much. This could be a bad habit or I find myself drawn to the face more and hence I don't shoot much of environmental portraits. I need to work on this.

Sorry to hear that, there are some (insert favourite swear word in hear) in the world :(

If you're wanting to stick to UK models then this site can be useful

Sorry to hear that, but glad to know that you have it covered through insurance.

The D810 is always tempting and I would have a similar dilemma. While the D750 is the best all round camera I have ever owned, most of my shooting is limited to portrait, landscape, city and food and the D810 does have a slight advantage in terms of colour depth and landscape shooting. I do crop a lot as well where the D810 shines. Having said that I still think D750 is a better overall camera for me and I think I don't need the D810.

Hi everyone.

Long time viewer of this thread and hoping to join in the fun soon.

I'm looking to purchase a D750 and 24-70 in upgrade to one of my D7200's in the near future.

I will probably look to purchase from Panamoz and noticed the price for body only was £1195. Is this price higher than it as been for a while and if so does the price for this camera fluctuate much? I am in no desperate rush so willing to see if the price moves in my favour

Looks cool in mono. Nice one mate

They've gone up quite a bit mate. I seem to remember the price being £1037 for ages.

Ah that would be better, might wait a month then and keep monitoring it.

Need to work out if Nikon are planning an updated model as that always influences the price too.

Also those who have the 24-70, do you see the price as justified for the VR version over non? I dont have it on my current DX17-55 and have never thought at those focal ranges it was a necessity but always interested in others views.

Not used the VR model but the original is sweet. The 17-55 is an excellent lens and the 24-70 takes it a step further. Same design as the DX version but has the nano crystal coating which helps to reduce the flare that the 17-55 sometimes suffers from. I neverfelt the need for VR but YMMV.

I bought the D750 and 24-120 for £1459 back in March, think the D750 was around £1040 at the time.

I paid £1375 for the D750 with 24-120 middle of January, its £1590 now. Think its the exchange rate and there was an earth quake which affected production, so reduced supply = higher prices

I'm the last person to dissuade you, but what lenses do you currently use most? If it's (say) 50mm then you're set when you switch to FX because your 85mm will nearly replace that. But if it's one of your DX zooms then you'll be needing camera plus lens.

If that is the case, then might be worth changing your more commonly used DX zoom for an FX equivalent as a first step? The only "issue" with that is if you're absolutely set on getting one of the D750 kits (lens+body combo).

I currently have two D7200's.

One has the 17-55 permanently fixed to it.

The second can have one of either 10-20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm or 70-200mm on it depending on the situation.

I'm a part time wedding photographer and have 6 weeks until my next wedding and then quite a few for the rest of the year. I see this window as a good chance to upgrade one.

I was considering the D750 + 24-70 package on Panamoz.

@dan_yorkshire i see @allanm has offered his in a wanted add. TBH with a fully transferable warranty from Panamoz i would go that route. If he doesn't get a reply from the OP who would appear to be short on funds according to other posts he's made within the classifieds section, you could perhaps ask him to list it in the classifieds... It is a fair savingand you'll still have 2 years warranty...

Cheers for the headsup @minnnt will take a look, I've still got to talk myself round to the idea of an upgrade but its def something I will do sooner or later.

Nikon announced a price hike a while ago so maybe it's a result of this more than exchange rate, but can't say for sure.

Makes sense then. What's the benefit of upgrading to the D750? Low light / high ISO performance perhaps? What's the lens / lens set which will most benefit from that? The kind of obvious answer might be to go for a D750 to replace the "all the other lenses" cameras since the only focal length you're missing then is UWA - so potentially you could grab a D750 body only and it'd be useful. But perhaps you'd want an UWA, maybe even an UWA prime? Not too pricey and a good step into D750 territory.

Conversely, you could bite the bullet and go D750 + 24-70 to replace the 7200/17-55... which I suspect gets more use anyway, so you'd want the better camera for the more frequent shots? But I also reckon you'd be drawn into wanting to use those fast primes with your FX body to get that super shallow DOF...

basically I'm saying you'll end up wanting two D750s ;)

That was a long way around the houses to get to your conclusion... :D

UK prices and grey prices were up before the shortage I think.

Saying that, there is a severe lack on D750s in the UK which doesn't help! Follow the links on camera price buster and nearly all of them no stock!

Haha, no need to tell me what I already know. Two D750's is def the aim.

I am looking for a D750 24-70 combo to replace the D7200 17-55 combo I currently have.

The D750 will also accept all my other lenses other than the 35mmDX and 10-20DX too which is a bonus.

My main reason for upgrade is ISO and because I'm a man and like having new toys.

My bridal prep shots I dont use flash and where natural light is at a minimum the 17-55 suffers but the awesome cheap 35mm is stunning at 1.8 so I opt for that, although with its limiting zoom length. I'm hoping the 24-70 D750 combo will improve that performance and enable to advantages of zoom still.

My aim at the end of the year is to upgrade the other camera also and replace the 10-20mm & 35mm with the Sigma 12-24. I dont need the UWA to be ultra fast, Its mainly used for wedding reception rooms interiors, group shots outside etc. Very little use in all honesty but nice to have it in the bag.

That will leave me with D750 x 2, 12-24, 24-70, 70-200, 50 1.4, 85 1.8. Then I'm free from upgrade for a long long time (or at least thats what I'm telling the Mrs)

My friend is selling brand new UK D750 with zero shutter count for £1250. Can stick it in classifieds if needed. I'm also not sure if rookies is selling one as 'I think' he is going Sony A7 route.

Well the only benefit of having today off work, is that the roses are out in the garden :)

Can I ask why he would be selling one in that condition? Has it been registered for warranty?

Had some currys vouchers and bought it part/part - changed mind and if takes back can still only get the vouchers back. Would prefer the cash. Warranty not registered. I wanted it myself but have had to sell lenses to keep mine so is a no go!

You're welcome. It's a worthy upgrade. The iso performance is incredible which should be enough of a nudge alone for a wedding tog.

In other news, my 24mm has arrived. :D

Yay at last! So now you just need to wait for the 85 to complete your trio!!!
