Nikon D750 & D780

Great framing on this one Anirban. Good stuff mate.

Thanks David. Photographing children can be frustrating, but in the end quite rewarding. [emoji2]

Luckily you have a dslr and not a mirrorless camera so tracking them is much easier.

:D

I wouldn't say a mirrorless wouldn't of captured that thou lol

Reason being is for. Live view. More MP. Focus peaking and ibis. And when a small lens on like a 35mm it be a nice holiday camera too.

Been looking at the 24-70 options and think I'm going to stick with the original Nikon. The tammys bokeh isn't great and the Nikon is sharper at the longer end which is where I will use it most. Also prefer the build of the Nikon. Did consider the new VR but doesn't that look a bit underwhelming especially as I really have little use for VR. I can't get that excited about zooms, find them a bit boring (70-200 aside), but I plan to use it for flexibility for studio stuff, so at optimum apertures too.

So where to buy? There seems some battered copies on fleabay at the moment around £750; £850 gets a reasonable copy and so Panamoz £970 for new. There's some Irish outfit on eBay cheapest at £940. Decisions...

Ok, here is a much higher contrast scene with backlighting from the cloudy sky behind.

Pretty strong CA throughout, but especially horrible on the f/2.8 shot to my eyes.

I guess it's handy to have f/2.8 for focusing (especially when using TCs) but I'll need to be careful about how I use it, if at all...

Is it that bad? I see a bit but i don't think it is that terrible? And how often do you shoot leaves through backlighting? I have a 35mm 1.8G and a 85 1.8G and i think both have shown me more CA at times that on your exemple.

Good point Thomas... I know I can be a terrible pixel peeper sometimes. Funnily enough, one preset in LR and it's gone with a click now. So it's not bad at all ;)

I think the lens seems sharp enough at f/2.8, certainly in the centre. I'm pretty happy with it, especially at the price I managed to get it for. Just need to get my hands on a Sigma 1.4x TC now (the old one, not the Art version)...

I thought you'd settled on keeping the D750?

As above it's not really that bad. The 85mm f1.8 and 85mmf1.4 I've tried recently have been MUCH worse than this, can see the bright purple fringing without having to zoom in.

I did till I got offered a good deal on a a7r2
Lol. Are you sure it's not going to have the same dusty sensor issues as the last A7 you tried?

wOOw that's an amazing pic, lush'tastic colours and I'm sure that would print well.......large mode. Which 24mm lens was used for that great capture?

Thanks, that is just the 24-85 VR and for that matter any wide lens should be fine for this. I shot it handheld at 1/10s, but a tripod would have helped to get a much better shot

Low price for a good bundle. I've been stung before buying stolen goods through eBay

Looking at his past sales, they almost all seem to be for Nikon kit within the last week or so. Which could be consistent with the story of being given uncle Tommy's photography gear after he passed away...

I wouldn't expect nicked gear to be quite so diligently arranged etc. with charger, manual etc. all there (for both the D750 and the D7000).

Strange you mentioned this as other day I notice 4 dots on my d750. First time ever for me on dslr

Well that all but confirms it. You should definitely get a Sony now ;)

lol not too soon am still in 2 mind cos ive a good set up good big lens and losing too much money on my current kit

All DSLRs will have dust at some point. Amount of dust will vary based on many factors. Mirrorless I understand will be prone to more dust on sensor without the mirror in between.

The point is no matter what you buy be prepared to clean sensor as a regular maintenance.

Buy what you really want. If I were you I would have given the DSLR some more time before making a decision as it seems you don't shoot much.

I tried A7 and A7R at a sony event and although I liked the lightweight form factor, but couldn't get in terms with the EVF (may be I need to try again) and on top of that unless I go full prime most good zoom lenses are heavy and will be bit odd on such a small body and the weight difference will go away. Having said that many have moved from DSLR to Sony and they are happy.

To good to be true? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172238798868

I asked if I could inspect it before buying said no
Currently at £560 with 4hours to go, would expect it to increase suddenly within the last few minutes like most auctions.
The guy has 100% positive feedback with just over 150 transactions so I wouldn't be concerned buying from this seller. Plus paying with PayPal you have good protection as a buyer.
Of course though, as always with eBay if you have any doubts don't bid.
