Nikon D750 & D780

So it looks like my D750 will not be back in time for the wedding and after the recommended rant to Nikon (as suggested a few pages back) they have agreed to replace it as the parts needed are not available with no lead time. Although this is a good thing... there is still no estimate to when a replacement will be sent.

This leaves me with a couple of options:

1. Wait and hope it arrives
2. Buy another 2nd hand and sell on after wedding
3. Buy new import as it seem HDEW/Pan have stock then sell new one from Nikon when arrived.

Now, I think I could sell the new one from Nikon for around the price I paid for the imported one? I think.

It was... back home now. Got some great shots of Melbourne at night - courtesy of an amazing sensor. (Yet to be processed)

Richmond Cameras on eBay sell them for about £30 more than Panamoz, stock is in the UK and is delivered next day. That's where mine (and a lot of my gear) comes from, great service.

You could always wait it out, then order one from them a couple of days before the wedding if it doesn't look like it's going to show up.

Nice, thanks! In stock and good plan about waiting closer to the time.

No mention on Nikon about shortages, thought they might have put out a press release or something!

Thanks, Toby! Ha, yeah, I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it - I'm in two minds as to whether I should've cloned the dead tree out, or not...

You could be right there! Unfortunately not - we were quite a way back from the fencing, mainly just pictures of the back of heads :(... so only really got pics of the guys once they'd finished. Still - first time we've been up to watch, quite a bizarre event and the guys who take part are absolutely mental.

I didn't take this one - Step-dad took it, but thought I'd share as it pretty much sums up the whole event. :runaway:

Damn that Lencarta sale on Octas!! I am on a full "HARD" ban of camera and related equipment after buying another four studio heads (oops!) second hand and I don't really need another octa, but a new 120cm one is just so tempting (especially since I also have a money off voucher for Lencarta!)

I have my auto ISO shutter speed set to 1/250, which works well for me as I'm often shooting moving kids and still gives me flash sync if needed. I'm still working out what modes work best, but I tend to default to:
Studio setups (product or people) - manual with manual ISO, spot or "chimp" metered :)
Indoor with on-camera flash - manual with auto ISO, -2EV adjustment and a guesstimate for the flash power (I have no TTL for my D750 as yet)
Outdoor with flash - shutter priority with auto ISO, -2EV and an ND filter to bring the total EV down within flash sync range (again, guesstimate for flash power)
Everything else - aperture priority, auto ISO.

I'm still trying to get it to work better though, so probably have some odd choices in the above list.
 
I need to sort out my auto iso settings!

Whats the maximum most people set theirs at? Minimum shutter speed I have at 1/200 but I think I'm playing that quite safe as I'm only using 35/85 primes.

I had to move up to 1/250 because of fast moving children - just that small tweak up has resulted in far more keepers. But that's just because of what I shoot...
 
I need to set my U1 and U2 modes as I haven't done it yet. Here's what I am planning for U1 and U2

U1 - Fast shutter speed to capture general motion (not sports as such) - 1/250, Manual, Auto ISO max 12800 and AFC 3D or 21 point and HSS
U2 - Flash use - manual, 1/125 ISO 400 AF-C Single. Commander mode inbuilt flash set to '--' and SB700 on 1/2 power in camera. HSS enabled.

The beauty of setting HSS as standard is that any speed below 1/250 will automatically use the sync speed and anything above HSS will be active. This way there's no need to worry about sync settings as long as the loss of power in HSS is taken care of. I have used HSS before with lenses wide open (1.8) and it really works great.

Will add a cheap On camera iTTL trigger for my SB700 and Yongnuo 560 III (set to slave) later. What do you guys use for radio triggering for enthusiast and amateur use?

Yongnuo 622 receivers and 622TX controller, never skip a beat and dirt cheap.

Thanks, Andy. Can't find this as acombo pack (one of each) on Amazon. May have to buy separately.
Guess these will take a couple of AAAs each. Time to buy some Eneloops as well.

2 x AA each

You can start with just 2 x standard 622s and use the camera menu to control the receiver one, then you can also have a flash on top of the camera.

The TX just makes it much easier to control and OFC though, no need to use any camera menu.

And make sure you get the 622n (the n being for Nikon)
 
I have my U2 mode set up as a "you too" mode - BBF turned off and basically a hand-it-to-anyone point and shoot. Friends and family have managed to get some nice snaps as a result, without me having to spend an age fiddling around unsetting all my specific controls :)
