Jag?
I need to set my U1 and U2 modes as I haven't done it yet. Here's what I am planning for U1 and U2
U1 - Fast shutter speed to capture general motion (not sports as such) - 1/250, Manual, Auto ISO max 12800 and AFC 3D or 21 point and HSS
U2 - Flash use - manual, 1/125 ISO 400 AF-C Single. Commander mode inbuilt flash set to '--' and SB700 on 1/2 power in camera. HSS enabled.
The beauty of setting HSS as standard is that any speed below 1/250 will automatically use the sync speed and anything above HSS will be active. This way there's no need to worry about sync settings as long as the loss of power in HSS is taken care of. I have used HSS before with lenses wide open (1.8) and it really works great.
Will add a cheap On camera iTTL trigger for my SB700 and Yongnuo 560 III (set to slave) later. What do you guys use for radio triggering for enthusiast and amateur use?
I used mine today... nice lens shame I mucked up the photography bitJust bought back my old Vivitar 19-35mm. Then just need to get out and use it!!

The missus used to live there. They spent 5years in Australia in total. Lived in Sydney first then moved there. She still has family out there. I've never been lucky enough to visit but I'd like the chance to some day. Having said that though, i absolutely hate hot weather.![]()

Has anyone found a good way of cleaning the focussing screen (without taking it out) as a rocket blower doesn't get rid of the crap on it?

Go in Winter... The hottest it got when I was there was 22!

It's been warmer than that down in Cornwall for most of the weekend.![]()
Any suggestions for a good, cheap emergency back-up body that has a similar layout to the D750 (and preferably battery, but that's not critical)?
DX is fine, it's unlikely to get used (it will be a spare third body) but may come in handy as the wife is hoping to second shoot with me once or twice in the future.
imo yesIs the 85mm f1.4g any better than the 1.8g? Been offered a 1.4g for £500....
D7000 perhaps? (same battery and layout & cheap as chips now)Any suggestions for a good, cheap emergency back-up body that has a similar layout to the D750 (and preferably battery, but that's not critical)?

The 85 1.4g is a better lens overall. Produces better bokeh and smoother OOF areas, has less CA. The 1.8G has edge in sharpness wide open, but the 1.4G has more character in the final images. 1.4G also renders a warmer image. Is the 85mm f1.4g any better than the 1.8g? Another thought (not enough coffee yet ...) maybe a D610 ??? that way lenses etc all fit and work the same - i.e. no crop etc ... terrific value for money these days.Any suggestions for a good, cheap emergency back-up body that has a similar layout to the D750 (and preferably battery, but that's not critical)?

Agree. Or a D600 with lifetime shutter replacement warranty from Nikon and if they are tired of replacing, they send you a D610. There's one in FB UK Photo equipment buy/sell group going for £550. It is indeed terrific value.Another thought (not enough coffee yet ...) maybe a D610 ??? that way lenses etc all fit and work the same - i.e. no crop etc ... terrific value for money these days.
Hi all,
New member here, had my D750 for nearly a year now and really love it. Came from a D90 and the step up to the D750 was an awesome move (sad to see some of my DX lenses go though)
One of my favourite features must be the U1 / U2 custom modes, i love the fact i could have the camera set up for any shooting situation and then instantly switch to my "portrait" setting at the turn of a dial..
Here's a pic of my daughter i took with the trusty 50mm 1.8Look forward to being part of the community!

I got some money for my Birthday last week and could afford a new 85mm f1.8G, but then the talk of the "cream machine" a couple of days ago go me looking at the 85mm f1.4D and I really like the way it renders and so thought I might save up a bit more and buy a used one of those. But then I think would the Sigma f1.4 be better for roughly the same price used :banghead:

85mm f1.4G for £500? Assuming good condition and UK I'd bite their hand off. If you don't want it I'll have it
I'm actually in the market for an 85mm and can't decide, decision making is getting harder and harder the older I getI got some money for my Birthday last week and could afford a new 85mm f1.8G, but then the talk of the "cream machine" a couple of days ago go me looking at the 85mm f1.4D and I really like the way it renders and so thought I might save up a bit more and buy a used one of those. Of course if I got offered the Nikon 85mm f1.4G for £500 I'd find the extra money from somewhere
Oh and then there's the rumoured Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art on the horizon. However, I don't think this is a viable option as I'm sure it'll be quite a bit more expensive, and no doubt weigh about the same as a small tank
I don't really do portraits and such like so don't want to go OTT on the cost, but a friend of mine has recently had a kid (like a week ago) and asked me to take pics at the weekend and all I had was my 70-200mm. They've said they'll want me to take more pics over the coming week, months and years so it'll be good practice for me and might give me the confidence and/or enthusiasm to do more portraiture/people photography and so think an 85mm could be a good investment. Plus the birthday money is burning a hole in my pocket![]()
sigma 85. Might be d800 though.

D600/610, D7000/7100/72000 depending on budget.
Thanks, would you say the Sigma is better than the Nikon f1.4d? I think the Sigma is sharper but I like the OOF areas of the f1.4d.The f1.8g is spectacular.
I've nearly bought a second one but the 1.4 art rumour is keeping me hanging on!
Had a sigma 85. Amazing. Wish I hadn't sold it.
