Nikon D750 & D780

You should get the 85 1.8g.
That's my next lens I think (y). Probably would only get used once or twice a year though

It's a nice lens, light, sharp, cheap.... but I'd still take the sigma, think I've had 3 85gs and tbh while I'd rather an 85 over a 70200 I just don't use that fl enough.

Size, weight and cost for something I'd rarely use though.

Then don't get a 85. I feel the same way after owning about 10+ different 70200 lenses.
Just meaning the Sigma vs the Nikon f1.8g. The Siggy is big heavy and expensive in comparison (obviously due to the f1.4)

Only had my 750 a month – brilliant camera but of course I don’t have to remind you.

Haven’t seen any small birds in the garden for months, so today a couple arrived and naturally I had the wrong lens attached, Sigma 105 macro. No time to change lenses as they had gone within five minutes.

I await the ribbing

Why didn't you buy a sigma 70200? Because the nikkors better.
But it's a lens I use a lot, and there's little in it weight wise. Sigma 85mm twice the weight of the Nikon f1.8 and it's the type of lens I'd want to be light.

Pointless buying a 85 if you are going to use it twice a year. Just use the 70200. If you are going to use it more, the sigma is better. Twice the weight..... but still better.

Won't there be a sigma art

Well the reason I've considered the 85mm is that used it's not a bank breaker so it's nice to have in the kit for those odd occasions, just like my 50mm f1.8. If I ever had the fortune of being a regular portrait shooter then I would look at upgrading.

I might even look at the f1.8d as it's even cheaper.

After seeing pics taken with it on here I just decided to buy it. No fuss or nothing. And now I take pictures with it.

You like it? How much? What made u get that over 2.8. Cost I guess?

In all honesty the only reason you'd choose the f2.8 over the f4 is if you need/want the light gathering and/or shallow DOF. Otherwise the F4 offers what the f2.8 does.

Bit quiet in here tonight after all the banter last night :)

I`ve had the D, and have the G ... The G is so much better mate.

I always check focus on mine, the 1:1 zoom on the focus point is invaluable to me. Dunno how I'd 'cope' without it either  :$

I used 'MUP' and just clicked a few shots. Luckily one was ok.
Looks good to me (y). I've never used mirror up tbh as I shoot landscapes in Liveview when on a tripod and so the mirror's already raised.

Why can't you chimp with MUP though?

That interesting Toby do you press the magnify button for that?
