Nikon D750 & D780

Didn't you want to use a tc though?

Btw the tammy 70-200 is a great choice

Yes I did want to use a TC but look like that out of the window. Possible get a 150-600 to do that kind of work

@anibap and @rookies I've had/have both the 70-200 and 70-300 but the Nikon versions and have to say the 70-300 actually fairs very well. Sure it's not as good, and sure there's the light disadvantage, but in terms of IQ I wouldn't say the 70-200mm is 4 times better as the price would suggest, not even twice as good. Unfortunately IQ of lenses does not increase in line with the price, far from it actually :(

Well at the moment in time even if I go for 70-300 and a 150-600 that combo is going be less than a brand new Nikon 70-200 and a TC.. Even if I get a Tamron 70-200 2.8 and a 150-600 that be a good buy too?

I think the first part is to figure out if it's a 70-200, 70-200 +TC that's required or a 70-300/150-600.
Oh don't worry, every lens type and combo has already been discussed several times over ;)

Minnnt that's a real bummer [emoji17]

Is it easily repaired do you know?

They're all good buys, all good lenses. Doubt you'll be disappointed with any of them.
Does that include the 70-300 LOL

Been trying to see how this lens fair with some portraits like the above.... My theory at this moment in time since I don't know what I want or if I use enough is to get a 70-300 and see how things goes. if I find it something I like and use ofter then i get some 2.8 glasses

My choice were both Tammys, the 70-200 and 150-600 I used a kenko 1.4tc that was apparently a good choice and between the faf of putting it on and the IQ and AF loss it never went in the bag again

WOW those are great images for a £230 lens I reckon...
As I said it is a good lens, but if you are after subject isolation shallow dof in tight spaces and busy backgrounds, the 70-300 will have limited use and this is where 2.8 shines.

I do portraits a lot so 2.8 works for me. Can't say what would work for you. You have to decide. [emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]

As discussed it's a good option this. Buy a used 70-300mm, see if it's something you use, if not sell it without much of a loss. If you use it a lot decide if you then want the 70-200 and again sell the 70-300 without much of a loss.

This is what I am going to do.. The 70-300 is being picked up tmr and see how I get on with it and if it a lens I use enough and if I do and happy with it I stay with it or if I find I need a faster lens then I get a faster lens but which one we come back to that when we come to it :exit:

Didn't you say you were picking it up from jessops though which means new?

Yup getting a new one for £230 unless anyone here got one for sale

At 300mm the 70-300 is beautiful for portraiture. Compression works just aswell as a wider aperture when you have good lighting.

Guess you had one?

Yes i had the Tamron 70-300 vc. Twice. Great lens. Not 70-200 great but definately a good all rounder. The VC is seriously impressive.
Me too, well only one and on canon but as he says the VC is very good and it wasn't a bad lens by any stretch but it didn't give me the subject isolation I wanted
