Nikon D750 & D780

The very early D750's have had two recalls for issues. Mine is allegedly one of those affected, but I've never experience either (and I tried to replicate it ;)). First was a flare issue where, in very extreme unique situations where there is a very strong light source just out of frame glare could cause an unusual shadow, and the second was a shutter issue where in certain situations (can't remember what off the top of my head) the shutter caused a banding. All you need to do is input the serial number on the Nikon site and it'll tell you if it's one of the early ones that was affected.

Mine didn't appear to suffer from it, but I sent it off as a precaution and then it came back with it's AF buggered up.

Can't decide if I prefer this or the original

Just brilliant just wishes mine pose for me lol, How old is she if you don't mind me asking.. Ours is nearly 6.

58mm lens that looks nice lens for portrait. Sigma is it?

Yes I am back... Glad I am too as like you and a few said I must of had a duff one and I noticed that myself after trying one in store a few week ago.. This one is just a different camera I just can't believe it honestly it better in every ways. I reckon I had a faulty sensor or a faulty AF.. or possibly both.

This is VERY fast at AF faster than my last one..

Told you they are much faster than the a7ii.

What was wrong with your AF?

This one is much faster than the A7ii yes but my first I can't agree it was poor prob a bit slower than the A7ii Honestly am not joking

You can see why I was surprised when you said the a7 was as fast.

Wasn't as snappy as this one it hunted a fair bit sometime. I though it was the lens but it happened on both lens

Don't say that, makes me think twice about sending mine in  ;)

I'm a bit 'concerned' about my AF module as I noticed that some of my shots had started to front focus and so I've re-tested a couple of my lenses. My 50mm is now at +20 MA, and the 70-200mm at +15 whereas they were +12 and +8 before

I can now that I have a PROPER d750 that behaving :)

I think you'll be alright, they've well cleared the backlog by now so the repairers can probably find more time to be thorough. That's interesting they are getting worse. Changed testing method?

@KitsuneAndy personally i think the texture is a little strong and would fade it a touch. I also think she's a little too little in the frame. I love negative space but would crop/frame her similar to how you did with the 85.

Just my opinion though buddy.

I'm going to do some more this weekend and frame them better. Agree on the texture tbh, but I've never tried cutting someone out of an image, so I was just chuffed I'd managed to do it lol

i be chuff with all of them pal as your are much better than what I can do

Cutting... Screw that. Copy the texture, make a new layer, mask it, select the mask, select the brush tool and brush over the mask to erase the mask. Then you have a texture on a layer that you can change the blending mode of, opacity, fill etc. Takes about 2 minutes.

This is something I have always tried to do and can never do it or understand how to do it. as it just doesn't work when I do it..

Always though about going on a Photoshop course

Quick selection plus refine edge - create mask, invert mask, took me 2 mins

Love that pic btw.

Now I need to find some decent free textures, the ones I used were just whatever came up on google first, lol

I got a few off the net. I could send you some if you like?

I also tend to add a touch of Gaussian blur to them soo so they're not too strong/defined.

That'd be great if you could, will pm you my email address

Same method. I first noticed it on Boxing day taking the Grave's Parkrun, but thought I was just having an off day. But at the weekend I had to do some headshots for my wife's work and noticed it then too, so tested today and got the above results. Will go through the rest of my lenses tomorrow.

Tricky one that as the obvious like for like lens is the 24-70mm f2.8 but it's a heavy beast and pricey, although used ones are now going for under £700 privately. I would suggest another option, the 24-120mm f4. It's as sharp as the 24-70mm, lighter, cheaper, and obviously has extra reach. Obviously there's a stop less light, and a stop more DOF (up to 70mm). However, compared to the 12-40mm Olly the 24-120mm F4 will still give you a stop shallower DOF so better for subject isolation, and the ISO performance of the D750 will make up for the stop of light loss, and then some.

The 45mm is a cracking lens tbh, it still surprises me every time I use it. The 85mm f1.8 will be comparable sharpness wise, but of course you will get at least 2 stops shallower DOF on FF.
Thanks for the help. The 24-120 reach would be better for me. I was put off by f4 although forgetting the FF difference to made!

24-120 f4 is a great lens, and used can be had at a good price

Thanks for all the well wishes folks, the operations went fine and they let me out at 9.30pm last night. Nerve block is wearing off so need to get some ora-morph down my gregory.

Welcome back rookies, glad you seem sorted now, don't go looking for problems unless they are obvious and enjoy the camera.

Hi mate

Glad everything went well for you pal.

Nope I don't go looking they just pop up. But the d750 I have now is much better than my last one. So am much happier now.

Just need a long lens. Toss up between the tamron and Nikon 70-200 2.8. Is the extra for Nikon really worth it

Said your goodbyes on the A7 thread yet?

Good to hear it went well, oro-morph sounds fun. Dont let the GAS get you to much while youre bored and 'high'.
