Me too. Only came across this while looking for other lenstip reviews. The reviews and images are excellent. Think I may have to ditch the 35mm purchase and get this one. I do more portrait than street stuff so makes sense to get one. But before I do, I need to test the Samyang 14 2.8 I bought in Dec and still not used it. Need to see how I cope with manual focus first.

I am just wondering if Samyang could produce auto focus lenses :eek:
 
Yeah but foccusing a 14mm is going to be totally different to a 135mm at F2. With the 14mm more is in focus so at about f and focussed just off infinity everywhere is in focus.

I think it'll be on the list after the 85mm purchase, which may have been delayed :(

Pin sharp MF on a 135mm f2 lens will be a bit of a pig tbh, could do with one of those split prism focus screens but not sure if you can fit them to the D750? I'm sure I read somewhere that normal viewfinders don't have the resolving power or something to be able to accurately MF on lenses wider than f2.8, or maybe I just made that up :lol:

I know it will be more difficult at that focal length, but my point was I never used a manual lens before or even tried to use manual focus on a AF lens ;)

You are right. Focus screen needs to be replaced. Even though the green dot can help, it shows up in a range and no just for critical focus and the Samyang has a long focussing range making it more difficult to nail it. LV is one option or different focussing screen.

If you don't mind me saying I think it could have done with a tad more light as it looks a little underexposed to me and the WB looks a little warm. Of course I realize that this might just be the effect you were after. If it was then just ignore my comments m8.:D

Comments are always welcome mate :thumbs: I think it was a combination of wanting/liking dark stuff, but did struggle a little with the centre bit, as it was starting to go soft (literally), and I was cooking with the rest of it ;)
I`ll take another look at it tonight :)

Yeah I use LV with zoom if I'm manually focussing, and always on a tripod if I'm doing that too. Very rare that I MF though, even with landscapes.

Out of interest does anyone know if you can get different focus screens for the D750 and how easy they are to change?

That's my problem as well. :D. The thing with these lenses are you want to shoot wide open and with manual focus it can be frustrating. Need to think back on the 35 mm

Yep, the eyelead works very well.

Go for the G, it's better than the old D version optically and much more quieter focussing. There are loads of comparisons out there.
 
If buying new the G is the most sensible choice. Used, the af-d is a bargain.

I've had both, bought the D on the cheap second hand as I wasn't sure if I'd like the focal length, then moved to the G because it's much much quieter than the D and focuses faster.

Same goes for the 85

I had the 50 F1.8G and it is a very good lens, but it was not very sharp wide open. You need to stop it down a bit to get the best image.

I might pick up one as they are quite cheap under £90 new (outside EU)
 
Radio Flash Trigger Question

To all of you who uses flash - Manual, TTL and HSS with your D750 and compatible Flash units. I have the SB700 and a manual only Yongnuo 560 III. TBH, I hardly used the Yongnuo as the SB700 gets all the job done and I have not moved into creative lighting with multiple flashes yet. I have the YN 603N trigger set, but it only allows manual trigger with no HSS. It works fine for anything within normal Flash sync speed, but cannot work with HSS or TTL.

Currently, I am using Nikon CLS using the pop-up flash as commander and firing the SB700 in wireless mode and also get HSS. This is fine inside when you have line of sight and no other interference and les hassle without any additional triggers. One downside is the popup flash also shows up as a tiny white dot on the eyes along with the main light. Not a big deal to remove in post, but I'd rather avoid it and hence considering Radio triggers.

This year, I have decided to be more adventurous with my flashes and use OCF outdoors across large distances and also with HSS. Don't want to buy expensive triggers and was considering the Yongnuo YN-622N systems. I understand I need to buy one that will go on the SB700 and one on my camera hot-shoe. What I am bit confused is there is also a controller called YN-622N TX i-TTL that offers more control of flashes using a display, but it is a transmitter only.

Which option is recommended and what are you guys using?
1. 2 Yongnuo YN-622N
2. 1 Yongnuo YN-622N (on Flash) and 1 YN-622N TX i-TTL

Appreciate some tips and suggestions from people who are already using something similar and are happy with.

I use option 1. Works fine with my HSS compatible flashes, I adjust power via another transmitter as it works with my setup and a TX doesnt. The TX goes on the camera then your normal 622N on the flash.

You mean Option 2? Option 1 in my post is without the TX controller.

I have 2 x YN658 EX II speedlights, 2 x YN-622N triggers and the TX to control them.

The TX means you can have full manual control over the flashes without having to use the menu on the camera, it's incredibly easy to use. The flashes have to be in TTL mode though, which confuses some people the first time they use it.

The controller doesn't have a pass-through hotshoe though, so you lose having a speedlight attached to the camera.

The 622 triggers normally come in pairs anyway, so could get a pair of those and see how you get on and then add a TX if you want to at a later date.

Thanks Andy. Few questions

1. I am assuming that it will fire on HSS as I increase shutter speed on my camera and no setting is required on the units as they are on TTL
2. Can I use the SB700 on TTL and the 560 III on manual at the same time from the same controller or 622N unit? Or is it better to use the 560 III as an optical slave?

I will see if I can get 1 unit of each as a package.

Well I've went the prime route I was considering before.... lets just say the lens is coming from Panamoz because its a heck of a lot cheaper than UK.....

Just need to decide what to do at the "wider" end.... I've got £400 credit sitting in WEX Account I need to do something with....

That's correct, there's a setting you need to change on the d750 to enable hss I think though, I'll double check.

You can have one channel on manual and one ttl. Much easier to do with the TX.

Sigma or Nikon 24, also the Sigma and Nikon 20s.

The 24mm lenses look great although I still have the 24 f2.8 which doesn't get used much (mainly as it's not brill iq wise)

Nikin 20mm was great when I tried one but the Sigma looks huge!

Half tempted by a 28mm as a wider but still not too wide option (and keeping my 24 2.8)

Is it worth keeping the 24 if the reason you dont use the FL is because the lens itself is poor?

Not sure if this appeals to you, but you can get the Sigma 24-35 F2 and have like three F2 primes (24, 28 and 35) in one lens for £699 only which is less than buying two separately. It is bit heavy, but a versatile brilliant lens covering 3 wide prime focal lengths at F2 with flexibility of not changing lenses. The lens is super sharp from reviews.

I'd have bought that one if it had OS as I need OS in certain scenarios. I am quite fascinated by this lens though as it covers all most used focal lengths in my travel photography.

I probably need to give it another go, I'm sure stopped down its probably OK, it was an FL I didn't really appreciate before.
