Nikon D750 & D780

As above you're viewing much closer on the D750. I'm sure if you down sampled the D750 files to 12mp you'd see a big difference.

I have to say I wasn't overly impressed with the hi iso, compared to what it was made out to be like. To me it doesn't look any better than my d800e, maybe even worse after I've edited and downsized both images.
The only time I have probably noticed a difference was when pushing long exposures at high iso(milky way etc), then the d750 files seemed better.
I think though theres very little between any off these cameras now a days.

It's better than my d800 at high ISO - focuses better and the files seem a bit cleaner.

That said I think of I had my tie again I might have been tempted by a d810

Ohh it focuses a he'll of alot better in even good light. Just not convinced it's that big a jump if any in hi ISO.
Yeah I wasn't sure if I should have gone d750 or d810. I'm sure it's also a great camera and there's things I do like more. Like the size and handling. But realised I don't need the larger files and the superb focus on the d750 dragged me in having never been truly happy with either my d800 or E.

For every day out and about I'll use the d750. For at home with the studio lights or landscaping, I'll use the d800.

That said I've not yet used the d750 with the lights (mainly as they've been buried in a room that you can barely get into-sorted now) so I'll give it a go. Although I loves the d800 with studio lights.

Anyone bought a D750 from Digital Rev? I did and can't see the WIFi option in the setup menu. Is this because it's one of the Korean ones? I have tried different batteries and different memory cards and a different lens and updating the firmware but network is greyed out and there is no option to pick wifi.

Is it just the wifi I would be missing out on if it is a d750(k) model?

Or am I missing something?

Any help would be great.

I have been using the 750 and 35mm Art for approx a week and I kinda wish I still had my D700 and 35mm 1.8 to do some comparison tests re ISO/noise levels. I am not sure if I have a setting wrong (I hope I do tbh) but some shots I think the noise is not great even at low ISO's, it is like there is a constant level of noise. I shoot RAW and do not use flash (one reason I upgraded) so low light is quite important to me.

With my 700 I had my max ISO setting set to 5000 so I presumed that the 750 would handle 5000 no problem and I could increase that to 6400 without too much of an issue.

If I view a 100% crop on two photos, I presume that the reason the 750 'appears' noisier due to it having twice as much resolution over the 700?

High ISO NR is set to off. Is there any other settings that I should check that could affect ISO performance.

Maybe it is me just expecting too much, I thought I would be amazed at the difference between the two but not quite convinced as yet, maybe I just have not used it enough, just curious if anyone else had a similar view after upgrading from another FX camera. Also if anyone else uses max ISO, what would you set it to for it to be acceptable?

I know I need to get some samples together.

Here, these should convince you, mate. The first one is ISO 1600 SOOC 100% crop with my old D700.

The second is at ISO 8000 from the D750 downsampled to 12mp to give an accurate comparison to the D700. This isn't dead sharp because it was the first shot from my camera and I hadn't microadjusted yet.

I think it's fairly clear that the D750 is cleaner.

Think it's just wifi, something to do with North Korea not allowing wifi that was created in the U.S.

To be fare not a great comparison as they don't look to be taken at the same time so the light quality could be totally different.

Though it does wipe the floor with a d700

Well, yes, that's true, but I've done this test with several shots. I don't have a D700 anymore so can't do a controlled test.

It was more about demonstrating that you have to down sample for accuracy.

Need to shoot more. Only took a couple of pics at Xmas. Can't get to the computer (relatives staying in the computer room) to look at the raws and tweak them. My mum wanted one of the eldest, so used the wifi to send it to my phone, so I could butcher it in instagram[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]ImageUploadedByTalk Photography Forums1451181769.908345.jpg

Had an older one of a friend on the same memory card (he shoots Fuji and loves his cameras!).....again butchered on Instagram but will have a proper look once they're out of the study!

Looking to step up my motorsport stuff next year so I'm considering my longer lens options, I'm thinking of the Nikon 300mm AF-S F4. Can't afford the new PF version and second hand older ones seem to go for around £500. Would this be the best option? I was considering adding a TC but the Nik TC14E ii is mega money so i may look at the Kenko 300 plus DGX.

Any thoughts? Would lack of VR be a pain? I guess i could try a monopod.

I use the 300 f4 at the Mach Loop and rate it highly. I didn't have the D750 then so can't give you feedback on that but on a D5000 it works very well and gives good IQ. Not sure about the lack of VR for motorsport? Is it for rally? Some of those shots are probably in a lot lower light. I never really noticed the lack of it at the Loop but the shutter speeds tend to be fairly high (1/1000 for jets). All the photos are fairly quick panning shots & hand held so similar in that respect.

I need to give the 300 a test run now I have the D750 :)

Thanks Lee. It would be for rallying but also some track stuff too. I'm guessing the lack of VR isn't really that important. Just a little cautious of it that's all.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that on panning shots it can sometimes cause issues as the VR gets confused and, as a rule of thumb, if the shutter speed is faster than the focal length (over 1/300th sec for the lens in question), then VR may not add much anyway. Technology moves quickly though and that may no longer be the case on lenses with multiple VR modes.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I need to use it more and become more familiar with how it works, I knew my 700 inside out. I love the ergonomics of the camera, it is lovely to hold. Will post back with any further questions and hope no one was offended by my feedback.

I had a 300 f4 for a while, but couldn`t get on with it (mainly because I`m a shaky old b****r). Close focusing is a nice plus point though. Stupidly sharp lens though.

At last I managed to get out for a couple of hours today, and took a walk around our local farm, although not too far, as it was more like a bog in some places. Managed to snag a horse :)

Thanks Lee. Marvellous fox!! Are you happy with its performance? Is the focus fast and accurate?

I've sold my D7k so i may make an offer on the one in the classifieds.

Thanks - Yes, very happy with it. Not had much of a test with it on the D750 but focus was accurate and fast on the D5000. It has a focus limiter that makes it use only half the range (3m to infinity I think) which speeds it up even more. Having said that, I have had no hunting issues so as it's in the right ball park focus wise, it'll make no odds.

The only thing I read that was negative was the foot isn't as solid as it could be but I have never found it an issue (it very rarely gets used on a tripod / monopod).

Both of these were with the 300 f4 (on a D5000).

Good luck with the purchase Minnt. Gutted I was a day early for your 85mm!

I love my 750 for this purpose. The wifi is handy for quickly saving a family snap and converting in phone.

I've just been using the wifi to transfer pics to my tablet. Ended up doing it manually as the wifi kept dropping. For me, it's the one thing that disappoints me about the D750 although I suspect it is more the app that is rubbish!

That's a very nice shot Paul, great expression & comp'.(y)

George.

I have also just bought another 300mm f4 lens, had one last / beginning of this year and although to heavy for me it will be used on a tripod only. David, it's a fantastic lens but I had the Kenko TC and in lowish light it wouldn't focus very well so you may struggle with some of your rally shots you have taken recently. The Kenko are currently £71.00 on Amazon so maybe worth a punt on a new one? > http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenko-MC4-A...45841&sr=8-2&keywords=nikon+1.4+teleconverter

It's probably in the weight range of the Sigma 150-500mm lens you had so hand holding maybe okay for you, I never go below 1/640 even on the tripod for my bird photography so with these type of speeds you should be okay but maybe worth buying a monopod for your track photography.

Not had this issue. Doubt it's the camera or app.

Forgot to add to my above post, some use the Kirk replacement foot but I found the original fine. Also, for fast focus my last one was instant on the D7100, not sure if you could or need any quicker?

Thanks Simon. Great info, much appreciated. I was looking at the newer Kenko TC's tbh. I've read on here that it's best to avoid the MC version? Not sure why though. Perhaps it's down to the slower AF you mentioned in lower light? I will consider a monopod though for sure. Happy with the IQ?

Not many YouTube reviews out there but from what I've seen the focus speed looks ok. Nowhere near as quick as the 24-70 but looks plenty fast enough for me.

From what I remember, there are limiters too. Full and x - y which speeds it up a fair bit.
