Nikon D750 & D780

That's a great shot David, good sky, well composed, and detail in the highlights & shadows.(y)

George.

Thanks George. 4 portrait shots in this one. Really makes a difference to the final image. Wish i had paid more attention to the highlights though at the time.

That merge feature is great, can now get all of Mrs Simply into one shot!

Assuming she doesn't frequent these forums. :D

Anyone here own a d810 also? how does the AF on that compare to the d750?

Been having a small play over the past few days and taken a few hundred shots mainly testing, nothing serious.
Im still on the wall regarding this camera, there are some bits that are so good but some bits i still prefer my d800e with.

The AF and hi iso are simply stunning on the d750, but i think I've been to spoilt by the d800e files and the detail they hold. I've also noticed the skin tones differ, maybe slightly warmer and i have a favour to the d800e's.

Im definatly going to have to plead with the wife to allow me to keep both or save for a d810.

Any way one from the other night while we were waiting on a table for dinner, iso 3200, editing and posted with no NR added.

D750 AF is supposedly better having the mark II version of the multi cam 3500 vs the mark I on the D810, how much better is debatable. AF spread on the D810 is slightly larger which is nice. Noise handling is marginally better on the D750.

I personally think the D750 has the best skin tones Nikon have ever produced, to me they are very true to life.

Here's a strange one. I took a photo of a sign against the light and the sky was well exposed but the sign naturally a bit dark. I popped the flash up and got this over exposed mess.

I altered a few settings and made a few more attempts but the results were the same - flash up = overexposed, flash down = decently exposed. I've since tried to replicate the effect without success. Probably some silly schoolboy error!

However, I was surprised at what there is to recover in that sky. This is the very same file reprocessed.

I've noticed a few have mentioned their D750 has locked up a few times. It sounds quite similar to the intermittent lock up issues encountered by the D4 and D800 a few years back. It's nice to know it was easily solved by a firmware update so I expect we will see one soon. It may be worth reporting it to nikon then persevering rather than spend more on new cards.

Yeah, I mentioned it to Nikon and hoping that if others do it might force Nikon into looking into it.

I know it's getting popular, due to the prices and warranties for buying lenses through Amazon sites in Europe, but in case some don't know, theres a site called Curiua who tracks the prices for the goods across the different countries. Prices can change daily so worth keeping an eye on them!

Cheers for this. Totally forgot about this option. It's also cheaper than grey too. Have been looking for a samyang 14 mm and it's a good 60 quid cheaper thanks to this site!!

Oh boy! You lot talking about the Tamron 150-600, and then showing how cheap it is in Germany have only gone and made me hit the buy button. Ooops. It's a proper novelty buy, one I have hangered for for a while, but at that price I just had to.

Bet you thought you where safe over 150-600 temptation in a D750 thread ;)

I have been really silly and got myself a d750! [emoji16]
Now when I go to process files in paint pro x6 my raw file tabs go a shade of purple and I can't process them! Am I missing something......?

Just bought my first speedlught, SB-700 for my D750.

When shooting in aperture priority, min shutter speed 160, ISO max 6400 the maximum iso setting with the flash attached is 400. Not that this is a problem I am just wondering if that is correct.

In TTL mode is it best to control exposure through the flash exposure compensation dial? With aperture really just dictating DOF as opposed to exposure?

Perhaps it hasnt got the latest update to process RAW files from a camera as 'new' as the D750.

If no update is available and it can use them you could convert to DNG or Tiff for the editing

Yes, you need to get some proper processing software <devil> :p ;)

Joking aside, probably as mentioned above it needs an update.

Thank you all, checked for updates all is done so not quite sure what's going on! Will try converting files to TIFF and try importing that way

Whilst this is an option TIFF files are huge so not the ideal way to do things imo.

When using flash use the lowest ISO for optimum quality. 100 ISO is all you need. The flash is the light source. There's nothing wrong with your D750 the ISO just defaults to those settings. Flash compensation +/- won't effect the Depth of Field just the amount of light on the subject.

@snerkler I do agree now after changing to TIFF!! Might be time to purchase new software, 138mb tiff files will soon block up my 1tb drive!

Sure will, although external drives are cheap these days. Still, more processing for the software to do when the files are that big so may slow down your workflow.

I need help from members here who bought the D750 from grey market like Panamoz or Hdew. I am thinking of getting the D750. Appreciate if you each of you can respond to the questions below. have posted in AVF as well and I see there are some common members.

1. How was the experience dealing with Panamoz or Hdew?
2. is it worth doing the BACS transfer? safety?
3. What is covered and and what is not covered as part of their own warranty? I understand Nikon UK will not repair anything, by these importers use the same companies for repair like Fixation etc.
4. Any of you faced serious AF fine tuning issues with UK bought lenses? The reason I ma asking is if the camera is UK sourced, Nikon may honour the AF fine tuning with specific lenses, but if it is grey they might not do it for free.
5. What else I need to know in terms of ordering from HDew or Panamoz? Any specific contacts, issues faced etc.

Appreciate your help.

Answered this on AVF ;)

Bought from Panamoz via BACS a few times, perfect in everyway everytime i have used them. Never had any issues that needed any warranty work (i never keep stuff long enough anyway :p )

All you need to remember is that all these cameras and lenses were produced on the same production line regardless of country of origin for the sale so you could have the same issues with a UK body as an import.

Bought a D7200 from Panamoz. Came with their own 3 Yr warranty as well as a two week refund policy (as long as camera has not been used and packaging is still sealed.
D7200 had a focussing issue so I contacted Panamoz by email expecting a repair under warranty. They offered to exchange it instead. I opted to pay the difference and go for the D750.
No problems at all....courier collected D7200 and as soon as they recieved it the D750 was dispatched.
Excellent customer service and would definately buy from them again,

Bought four cameras from Panamoz in the last year or so. I had a problem with some swarf in the VF on one of my D750 last year after a weeks use. I contacted Panamoz and the camera was collected the next day and I was refunded my money two days later. So the camera was collected and returned to HK and the money refunded in three days in total., not many UK companies would beat that. So a big thumbs up from me.

Always payed by BACS and no problems for me.

The mark on my sensor is bugging me! I have shot down to f4 against a wall and you can still just make it out. Have rang Nikon who have said to send it in, they will consult the technician and take it from there. Apparently if it can't be removed you can't replace just the glass in front of the sensor so it would be a new sensor.

Sooooo fed up with the third trip back. Another few weeks without a damn camera.

Still trying to find what is the limit on this camera for me,had it on auto ISO today 4000 max, this shot was a take it as is or miss it,it was two nearly two stops underexposed even at ISO 4000 but ime pleased with what came out.
