A great upgrade would be the fix of the dust/oil on the sensorAnd I would say that alone is worth it, thought maybe not an entirely new model... but hey they want to make money out of it....
I've read that the issue affects randomly and I guess depends on the usage, but I don't think this has been rectified at any point during the D600 production....
I thought I heard somewhere that wet-cleaning the sensor yourself invalidated the Nikon warranty. Is this true or boulder dash?!

I think the reason for the 'new model', which is, if the rumours are true, just a new name for pretty much the same camera, is just to start over with a clean name. The name D600 has been mentioned too much in connection with those oil spot issues. Maybe this has affected sales, and starting with a new name could remedy this.
If I owned a D600 I would be a bit unhappy that Nikon have released this. They should be offering a solution to all the unhappy d600 users out there that been basically sold into a product that has an inherent fault.

I don't think it is an inherent fault. all dslr will get dust on the sensor. they get in when you change lens. you can even get dusts in lens.
Correct me if I am wrong I don't own a d600 but as far as I was aware the problem with the d600 wasn't dust on the sensor but oil which in turn then causes more dust than would be normal.
I am afraid that is part of every day camera life as well. This doesn't only happen on D600. It can happen on all DSLRs. for example it is know to happen on cannon 1dx , 7D, nikon D700 etc.... Lot of people will not notice it because they don't shoot at F22. It is only when people heard about it on line, then they start to look for it.

I have owned at one time or another a Nikon d40, d5000, d7000, d300, d700, and now have a d800. I haven't come across this issue on any of the cameras I have owned. 2 guys I know bought d600's and both had the oil problem.

If the d610 exists. Replacing the shutter mech may also have been good customer service in noticing a one off issue with yoursIt's a fault. I had to clean my D700 sensor a grand total of once, in the year and a half that I owned it (with regular lens changes). My D600's sensor was filthy after about 1500 shots. Also if it wasn't a fault, then why would Nikon have replaced the shutter mechanism when it was in for a sensor clean? The D610 is a clear admission of this. I was lucky and managed to return mine to the retailer, but the impact this will have on S/H D600 prices will no doubt anger owners, unless Nikon do some sort of trade in scheme (which is very unlikely).

Nikon rumours (where the D610 info came from) are usually pretty spot on when it comes to this sort of thing. And its not just me who's had the shutter mechanism replaced, its standard procedure for any D600 sent in for a sensor clean under warranty.
Nope none. Were they on full/nearly full cards?Hi guys, Had mine a 4 weeks now and shot about 4000 images..
Has anyone come across a few currupt images? 1 every 1000.
I've had four so far. Never had this from a camera since i went digital in 2001.
anyone else had this happen with 600? all on different cards.... so not that.
