I am looking at getting a SLR camera and have seen a Nikon D60.

Is this camera any good? i am ok at taking pics but am looking for a better camera than i currently have.

thanks

Matt

Yes its excellent.

If you have no investment in Nikon lenses, also consider the Sony A200 and the Canon 450D.

I have the D60 with kit lens 18-55mm non VR and the excellent 70-300VR, I'm new to DSLR's and find this is a great camera for me.

Don't forget the D40 if your budget is tight. Try this flckr group for research.

i want to take some motor sport pics, will the 18mm lens be ok for that

Only if you are in the pit lane:lol::lol::lol:

My kit came with the 55-200mm non VR and I sold this to fund the 70-300mm VR. It's a very polular lens for motorsport but not cheap as prices are rising fast.

The 70-300 lens was recommended(for my budget and camera body) by guy from copeimages who was a pro tog for BSB.

Thanks for advise everyone

does anyone else have any views on the D60

Not really, but I shot this all these with a D60, and I quite like the shots.

The D60 has excellent image quality, depends if you don't mind the small body (I love these size bodies) and the limitations with regards to autofocus and non AF-S / HSM lenses.

I'm just waiting for a full frame camera with that size body really :)

really temped to order one, are they user friendly,i want to learn about photography and am looking for a good camera to start with

They seem to be - if you forgot the remove the lens cap, the camera says "subject too dark" etc!

Its an entry level camera, and dead simple to use. TBH you could hand me any Nikon camera and I could use it without needing to read manuals etc, so for me its just a small light backup, with nice image quality.

User friendly? I reckon so yes.

I have just bought a D60 from Jessops, it's great but haven't really properly used it yet, it's 18 yrs since a Minolta 7000 for me so i need to get the feel of it...but it's quite an awesome piece of kit to me.

I love my D60, my missus bought me it for my xmas present and I hardly put it down

I got it with the 18-55mm VR... I definately say go for it... I want the 70-300VR lens as mentioned above next.

My only problem with the camera, is also one of its qualities. It is quite a small body and I have huge hands which means I seem to get quite a lot of camera shake because i can only grip it with two n a bit fingers. Unlike my girlfriends dad's d80 which fits into my hands perfectly. However we didn't have the budget for a D80. Gf's dad really likes my D60 though and compares it quite similarly to his D80.

:)

Add a battery grip:thumbs:

My mate has a D60,
frankly the image quality is better than my D80, more noticeable at higher ISO's.

I'd happily use one, though the D80 does have more buttons and dials which can come in handy for setting things up more quickly (as you need to delve into the menu's less).
