Just a quicky... is it a myth that only genuine nikon batteries can be used with the d3100?
Thanks

Evening, I'm at a loss here and having a proper blonde moment
When I set the flash compensation to say -3.0 and then pop the flash up to use, the compensation returns back to 0.0 .
I've read the manual, had a google, but just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong
Any thoughts please![]()
in the menu you have set the flash power to manual rather than auto TTL
Change it to Auto in the menu and its all good. Leave it manual and you cant change the flash compensation (obviously) and it shows as 0.
Just tested it on mine and that's what happened.
It is true, however, if you use a battery grip as long as you put the genuine one in first for the camera to recognise you can then use a third party one or I think it's one for the othe version of it from Nikon (think it's for a p3100?) for the second.
I do this and can confirm it works.
I have a 70-300 VR with mine. It's a great combination - the lens is very quick and sharp. I see a couple in the classifieds so well worth it IMO.
Yes, you need the af-s version as it has a built in motor ( the body of the d3100 doesn't have a built in motor )
The cheaper version of the 70-300 nikon would be manual focus only on this body.

Get posting and then look in the classifieds here. Only just went for £250-ish I think
D3100 people..! Recommend me a remote shutter release please?
What you all got

What about it?What about the D3200...
I have got a D3100 with the two kit lenses, 18-55mm and 55-200mm. I am looking to get a lens in the coming weeks, either the Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF-S or the 35mm AF-s. What would people go for?? I know that I am going to get asked 'well what sort of picture do you take' and to be honest there is no set answer, I do take a lot of pictures of my 2 boys, I also fancy doing a bit of portrait photography in the future. If you have a look at my Flickr you will see that there is no set pattern to my photography so far..... Thank you
Hey guys, what's everyone preference on grips for the d3100? And do the all come with the cable for extra button?
Hi David,
there are no official grips for the 3100 - the unofficial ones all have a cable round the side
Perry - do you mean the cable for the grip - in which case I don't know as I havent got one
