Nikon 70-200 F2.8 VR or Tamron 70-200 F2.8 VR ?

Yeah both right but not a lot of difference really

Not a lot in it at all. it really is a great lens, What camera are you using it with John ? .

I've been using mine whilst on holiday and I'm pretty impressed, certainly no real discernable difference between it and the canon mk2 IMHO.

The same as me, I also have a d7200. but ob its cropped so a longer range on that.

I love the Tamron on my D750. The only reason I got the D7200 was to use with my Sigma 150-600C for birding. I will see if I can borrow the Tamron back for the weekend a take some more photos. ;)

So is it common to get 'bad' copies of these lenses ?

I did read and watch a lot of reviews before buying and no one really rubbished the lens and in some cases found it better - like one I saw with the canon and the tamron for chromatic aberration and the Tamron was better in that instance

Yeah, Tamron's QC (or lack of) is quite infamous. Much better these days since they upped their game but I know a few people who've required 2/3 copies after returns to get a sharp one. The 24-70, as amazing a lens as it is, also suffers from Tamrons poor QC.

If you get a good copy of either (which you obviously have) then you're laughing!

That's good to know.... Phew!!

I also have the Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 and the Tamron 19-35mm F/3.5-4.5 - both excellent lenses - the 19-35 was cheap as chips and I use it all the time

I'm pleased with my Tamron 70-200 vc f2.8
i sent it back to be checked over as wasn't 100% it was sharp.. nothing was wrong with it, but they did a firm ware update while they had it... it seems so much better now.

I've got the 17-35 which I use for landscapes when I get the chance. Break it out at the odd wedding too as it's 2.8 at the wide end so makes for some funky party shots! :)

Off to shoot the Great north run tomorrow for the RSPCA, so the Tammy will be on my D750. :);)
