Does anyone have one of these? They seem hard to come by and reviews seem pretty thin on the ground! Fred Miranda doesn't contain that many reviews either:( . I'm assuming the price is one reason why not many people have one but the few pics I've seen taken with this lens are fantastic!!

Cheers Paul

I used one that belonged to a friend and the bokeh was simply stunning.(Very similar to my 85mm 1.4) Extremely sharp and a beast of a lens. But not a range that I use enough to justify the cost.

It's on my wish list for this year, I was going to go for the 300mm f/2.8 but I'll get more use out of the 200mm at weddings and I can add a TC if needed for the equine work.

If you get one I might just pop round and drool over it! :D

i used one a while ago and its simply the best lens ive ever had attached to my camera, better then the old Canon 200mm f/1.8

I've got the old AI-S version and it's a beast. I believe the AF-S VR is bigger and heavier, and would be the first thing I'd buy were I suddenly rich.

Got to stop looking back at this thread. Reminding me how good it is....
Trying to behave for 2010.

£2399 if anyones interested..... :D

I must say i'm hugely tempted as I think these things must be even rarer second hand!! Might face divorce though ;) !! I was hoping Stewart would have one to hire as I think a 200 prime would take some getting used to. The pictures that it takes just seem to be superb though!!

Colin sld I purchase you're than willing to pop over and have a go, although when you drop the wedding album round (once we've picked the pictures!!) you cannot disclose the price of it! If you do I shall beat you with said lens!!!

Hehe phew!! Anyway had to send an email..... Even asked what their best price was and got some money off! Will sleep on it and posse give them a call tomorrow as I'd like to ask a few more questions!!

Dear Paul,
Thanks for the email. The lens is available ex++ condition
complete with the caps and hood etc. It is very capable of producing very
sharp images and has a 6 months warranty. At the moment there are no
photographs and the lowest price is £2***. All the best.

Kind Wishes
Matthew

Please buy it and take the temptation away from me

Busy working out how I can sneak my baby (200-400mm) back into the house at the end of the month.

Hardly a baby, more like a full grown lovechild :D
And I would just like to say I'm not jealous :bang::shake:

Yes I have one. You wouldn't like it, it's rubbish, especially on an FX sensor. :naughty:

See this thread where I posted a couple of links to some shots taken with the 200mm.

Ooh, my ears are burning.

We generally buy what people ask for. (Within reason, and if we can afford it.) The number of people who have asked us for the Nikon 200mm f/2 is .... none.

Make that one Stewart Haha!!, but I totally understand why you don't have one. Surprised there have been no other requests though!

I'm still mulling, thing is I have the 70-200 which might be a seller sld I get this!! I hate quandries!!

There is a HUGE thread about the 200 f2 on nikoncafe.com (over 5200 posts and counting!!)...if you want to see some stunning examples of what the lens can do then you need to head over there. But only do so if you have the cash to buy one lol

canon do a rather svelte 200mm 2.8 don't they? not the same I know, but still...

I've veeery briefly used a 200mm f2...very sweet, though huge and strange looking bit of kit

Yup have gone through most of that in the wee hours of the morning! A very good read! I think I'll drop the hammer, in a way the glass should last me ages (more than a body), shouldn't lose much if anything should I not get on with it and need to sell it on! Hopefully a no brainer!! I think I've talked myself into it! Have a shoot next weekend so at least I have a proving test for it!

**** it it's only money!!

yeah, but I feel to swap out my 70-200/2.8 I'd need another stop or it just wouldn't get used

I have one - why do you ask? Are you looking to buy one, and want to have a go first - I am in Lincoln if you happen to be passing.

This lens should be so much more common. For a similar cost to a 300 2.8, you can get a 200 f2 and 1.4TC - why wouldn't you?

In 15 yrs of professional photography, it is THE sharpest lens I have ever used, and won't be parting with it without a serious reason.

I use it in the pitlane and trackside with a D3x.
Pit lane - full frame bokeh love,
Trackside - Faithful workhorse, DX crop plus 1.4 or 1.7 TC for a bit of extra reach. It takes the TCs very well.

It all depends what you are after from your kit.
70-200 2.8 - small, light, inconspicuous, versatile, but not sharp (from my experience, I had 4 of them) doesn't take TCs anywhere near as well.
200 f2 - SHARP, SHARP, SHARP, bokeh, but heavier, draws more attention to yourself if you are out and about, fixed focal length.

You have to work out what it is you see as priorities.

The worst aspect of this lens.........you will feel that all of your other lenses are cheating on you!!

Cheers

Gary

Thanks Gary , excellent reply! I've bitten the bullet!! That's very kind offering to let me have a go but being in sunny Essex it's one I can't take you up on. Do you have any pictures to share where you've used the lens ?? Can't wait to see what this beastie is all about now!

No problems, I will pick out some shots this evening, I am skiving from editing a video at the minute, if I am not careful, I will end up spending all day Talking Photography and getting no work done!!
