Nightclub photography - tips?

Give me 300d a kit lens and a 430ex and I could bosh out decent nightclub pics no problem.

I did my first shoot last night in a club in Edinburgh and must say surprised myself. The hardest part was getting the balls to stick my camera in peoples faces. I managed to nail the exposure after two test shots and after that fired away... with two sets of settings; one for dark walls and no flash / high ISO and another setting for white walls with flash and lower ISO.

Was a great laugh. Will post up some shots soon.

Ah ok, I was ust wondering as dont recall ever seeing anyone taking pictures in any club in Edinburgh. At least it wasnt Cav or City.

Hi guys! First post here...

I've read 90% of this thread, and wanted to pick up on one point.

Im pretty comfortable with trial and error with the settings, but the only 2 options I have on my EOS 450D, is 1st or 2nd curtain sync.

These vary from the 3rd option, as I understand it, rear curtain sync, where the flash goes off just before the shutter shuts.

With 2nd curtain sync, im getting 2 flashes, both at the start and end of the exposure. So, in a night club environment, I assume im best using 1st curtain sync? Otherwise il get 2 froze Dj’s in the shot! (useful for some shots, granted).

the first flash is the ttl metering flash - the cam works out how much light it needs - you wouldn't get this in manual. The flash does not affect the exposure.

The second flash is the one that exposes the image ;)

This thread is a good example of why some people are scared to post on here. The slightest error in how things are worded results in unnecessary aggression. As I get paid for my nightclub work, I'm not comfortable with telling people what settings I use. The same way that I wouldn't expect anyone else to tell me what settings they use.
But I'll know better than to post an honest comment next time.

Just remember on DSI you need to be dedicated and go to all there events because thats when you will spot alot of people and your rating will go up. I think u have to spot about 500 people before you are offerd vip passes and things.

I've left my nightclub pic settings up on flickr...

whoops.

interesting read, I have to admit I do suck at club photography, just wish iso6400 is the way forward :P
