NickDs 52 for 2022 - Week 52 - Showcase.

Week 21 - Metal + Tech.

Having timed out on the last tech without realising, I wanted to take a picture that was particularly suited to mono, and when Metal was drawn i thought that would be ideal.

Thats a good shot Nick. Mono works very nicely with the shiny metal

I like this shot Nick. The processing really suits it.

You could have used it for the last theme as well.

Good one Nick. Just the right amount of reflection.

Metallic things just lend themselves to B&W.

That never occurred to me until you mentioned it, but you're right!

Good one Nick. Just the right amount of reflection.

Thank you.
That's on the top of our old chest freezer, I like the soft reflection it gives. I use it more than I should.

Nice shot Nick :)

Week 22 - Treasure.

I did experiment with a little treasure chest we have, on which I particularly like the lock, but it struck me as too obvious. In the end I went for this, natures treasure if you will. Bejewelled after the rain.

Nicely shot Nick. Water is certainly treasure, and this does look like jewels!

That's very nicely done Nick. Well done :D

That's how it looked to me, everywhere was hung with jewels that morning.

It's a fairly heavy crop, as I couldn't get that close, but I liked the shapes in this section.

Diamonds on green leaves. Treasure for all of us.
Well composed Nick.

Nice shot Nick, I like how the plant has "grabbed" the water at the edges of the leaf.

A lovely shot... sharp and captures that dewy freshness. The large droplet looks like a diamond so definitely treasure!

This fits the bill on so many levels. Really nice composition, it looks like jewels and where would we be without water?

Well seen and capture, I would walk past that but glad you didn’t. Does look like jewels on those leaves, well exposed for the water to show it off.

I like that Nick and a it's good interpretation of the theme.

Thanks!
I was struggling to be honest. My partner does have a small treasure chest, but I knew there would be a few of those (including one exactly the same as we have!}

Nature is amazing, isn't it?

It was the big 'diamond' that first caught my eye.

Hands up... it was a wider shot, with the 27mm, and I composed it afterwards to try and highlight the shapes I wanted.

The older I get, the more I pay attention to these little things, because really they're the big things.

Week 23 - Solid.

I struggled again for this. I tried Ice, stone, concrete, etc, but couldn't get a shot I liked. This is a bit of a desperate lunge to not fall behind, but the ball is solid glass, so at least it's on theme.

The colours work well together and I like the way you have the flower prominent in the reflection. On theme for me (y)

That's a great take on the theme Nick. Well shot.

A lovely angle on the theme. I think it works well.

The flower may or may not have been picked from a nearby bush and struck in the ground exactly where I needed it to be! :D

It works very well. Good bit of creativity Nick.

Cheers!
It's very rare I reach for the ball, usually when I'm stuck and desperate.

That's a great take on the theme Nick. Well shot.

Thank you!
Given how quickly it was conceived and shot, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

A lovely angle on the theme. I think it works well.

Thanks!
I'm still not fully comfortable with the rotation in PP, I need to practice to get it smoother.

Week 24 - Something beginning with P.

Duke Ellington's 1938 classic, Prelude To a Kiss. A beautiful chord structure, and a gorgeous melody, with Lyrics added a few weeks later (as often happened) by Irving Gordon and Irving Mills. Various versions have been recorded over the years, from Billie Holiday to Alicia Keys more recently, but the Sarah Vaughan version still stands head and shoulders above the rest for me.

This is a wonderful shot Nick. I really enjoyed your commentary (but not as much as the attached YouTube file :D ). Thanks for sharing the recording.

... and you're welcome, I've always loved her voice, and her phrasing.

Lovely shot and commentary Nick

Cheers!
It's a simple shot, but it does the job.

Nice Photo and story behind it. Also enjoyed the youtube clip.

While it's definitely considered a jazz 'standard', I've often wondered why it's not more famous than it is.

Week 25 - Snappers Choice.

I had no clear target for this week, other than head out to the heath on a bug hunt, and go with my favourite shot of the day. I think it was the eye on this that sealed it for me. There's a touch of blur in the wings, as they seemed to be vibrating, but I don't think it spoils the image.

Large Heath by Nick, on Flickr

Nice image, and i'd agree that the blur to the wings doesn't detract. Lovely detail in the body and eyes.

Very nice photo but it's a Ringlet rather than a large heath.

Yes the head and legs are very sharp.
Well captured and good colours.

Really nice macro Nick. The blur doesn't detract from the image IMO.

Looks fabulous to me.. so much detail in the body.

It would have been better all crisp, but I can live with it.

Very nice photo but it's a Ringlet rather than a large heath.

I knew I'd get it wrong. I have to rely on what I can find online. I appreciate the correction.

Thank You.
I like the colours from the Astia film simulation for nature shots, It's a little less heavy than the Velvia.

Good shot Nick :D

Thanks!
You can always rely on nature to bail you out!

Interesting moth Nick.

Pete

Cheers!
It's amazing the things I see up there that I never see anywhere else. Every bush is teeming with life.

Really nice macro Nick. The blur doesn't detract from the image IMO.

Thank you!
I've been really impressed with the pseudo macro on the 70-300.

Unusual-looking moth. Well captured.

Thanks!
I'm fascinated by the glowing antennae tips!

Looks fabulous to me.. so much detail in the body.

Cheers!
The light really helped me out that day.
