DeLorean looks great, shame about the thing in the background. Thrust looks very imposing, the angle you've used has worked well.
 
I find myself agreeing with Darren a lot in these 52's... That angle you've picked for "Thrust" is brilliant. It's just a superb shot considering f4, 1/20sec and ISO 3200. Stop trying to convince me to get a 5DII. Not that the equipment had much to do with this shot, as you've nailed the perspective.

I don't need to do any convincing - the camera seems to do that all by itself :D (and it was handheld too ;)) - I do like its low light capabilities :D

#1 Great perspective and lighting in this shot. Really love it.
#2 Another great shot and nicely tweaked too. Background is a little distracting but like mine there's not much you can do about it in places like that. Did you know that, maybe ironically, DeLoreans had no end of faults due to poor quality electrics? Still fantastic to look at though.
 
It's the DeLorean for me. Love the Fractulus thing you've got going on. Gives it the real time travel thang.
 
Thrust SSC is excellent, superbly composed... Love the effect on the Delorean too. Although, they do appear more speed than mechanical, they do fit the theme... especially with the turbine showing...

Like the mechanical shots, just a shame the right hand engine doesnt look the same as the one on the left, I'd be tempted to cheat and PS it with a bit of copy/paste.

Like the effect on the DeLorean, very back to the future!!
 
I like both shots. The viewpoint on Thrust is great and the Delorean effect is very good - a good week!

Much as I like the perspective in your SSC image, the thing that really makes the shot for me is how the curves in the car are complemented by those in the building and how the car is aligned with them. Very nice image.

thanks for the DeLorean shot - I wanted one when they first came out. Nice bit of additional work you've done on it.

No.1 : technically the better shot IMO - curves, background, perspective all spot on.
I'd quite like to see the effect that you've got in the left doo-dah thingummy (very technical term) repeated on the right one, but that's a minor niggle.

No2 : Not as nicely composed, but i do like that bit of Fractalius. Very effective PP - works well for me.

Cheers both - regarding the engine on the right - the reason it doesn't look the same is because the spotlight that was happily illuminating the left hand side was off on the right hand side :lol: I didn't realise that myself until I had a look on flickr and there's almost an identical shot but with the right hand side engine lit up :)

Fractalius is always nice - I was a bit dubious that it was a bit OTT on the photo, but I thought the pic just needed something.

Anyway - as a thanks to those who have visited my thread this week, here are a few more shots from the museum. Also, I'd just like to say - pop down there, it's free and there's lots of interesting stuff there :thumbs:

love the lighting and perspective on the first one.. and the processing on the second is fab.. new word learned today 'fractalius' :D

Right - so Play it is for Week 8. For those of you who are only here for the NSFW it's right at the bottom... see you guys next week :lol:

This week I have mostly been inspired watching the Zack Arias OneLight DVDs. Proper lighting technique is one area that I really haven't worked on that much. I normally use the ambient however it comes. This isn't the best way of doing things all the time, and as I move towards doing my wedding photography I'm going to need to know all the lighting tricks and tips I can get my hands on. So, I decided that for my 'Play' shot, I'd incorporate some off camera flash, and replicate one of the shots that Zack shows in the DVD (well, ish!). As my wife doesn't like being photographed, her sister was drafted in to help out this week :)

This one's called 'Jump!' and is the sister in law playing about on a bridge next to a play area in a park (enough 'play' references yet?). The lighting is from a Canon 430EXII on a light stand on the left of the photo, and then a little 'play' in Photoshop (nope, there's always one more left!) to bring more of the colours out :)

Right. For you mucky buggers, here's the NSFW. Last year on another forum they had the theme of 'Play'. This was my effort for that week, and has also been seen on this forum too :)

Both shots have bags of potential. I really like #1, but feel it would have been awesome with a cross light for the back of her.

The second shot is just fantastic, mate.
 
Number 1 is fun... number 2 is great, so suggestive... I like the colour too. If I had to make one comment... I'd say fluff up the pillow...

both are really goods shots for play, for #1 i think it would benifit from a slightly shallower DOF. #2 is spot on!

First shot look like you had a lot of fun, using off camera flash as well :thumbs:. I've just got myself a light stand and small shoot thru brolly to experiment with.

I've seen the second shot before too :clap:. I hope that's not the sister in law too :suspect:. I can't help looking at the shot and thinking your head should be in the shot on the pillow with a big smile.

Only problem with a second light is that I don't have one... yet (well, not battery powered anyway - I have a couple of Interfit Studio Heads) :lol: I'm going to be buying at least one Yongnuo off FITP in the very near future though. Want to get the hang of one light first, and then start experimenting with more :)

It's art nude Scott ;) and it's most definitely the wife, not her sister! :lol: Also :lol: about my head being in the shot!

I've got to try more off camera flash stuff - I'll be buying a big softbox, convertible brolly and some other bits off FITP as soon as I get paid :)

Stumbled across your 52 a couple of times before - the dead people and Thrust if I remember.

Just now gone through the whole thread and some truly gorgeous pics there - and some clever well thought out ideas. Love the "ribbons" on the present with the torch and Quality Street.......

Going to be keeping an eye on this one.

As for Play - both great pics!
 
I like both images too Nick. Good on your SIL for helping out, just one thing on it for me, your model is a bit central in the frame, perhaps a crop to suggest her jumping into the frame?
I like the lighting in your second image and especially the suggestive nature of the image. Well done:thumbs:

I like the action and lighting in your first. Although I'd like to see her slightly further to the right of frame.

You may have a point - I thought the centralness of the original was a good time to 'break the rules', but I see where you're coming from regarding the space to jump into the frame... :thumbs:
 
That looks much better to me Nick. The background is now more uniform as well without the big light gap to the right. How many times did you make the poor girl run around and jump? :)

(In my defence there are now nearly two hundred of them :p but I will go back and have a look).

Just looking at your Play shots:

#1 is good, especially the edit but I'm going for #2 - excellent image. :thumbs:

Nick - another pair of stunning images.

I think your edit moving the subject to the right has really added impact, and the expression on her face is great. It's clear everyone was having fun.

The second shot is nicely suggestive without being truly NSFW and is tastefully executed with lovely soft lighting. The watch is a minor distraction though.
