next on the shopping list an i7 (build log - LOADS-O-PICS)

I know the feeling... ;)

im clutching at straws slightly though.. the i7-2600k is plenty powerful, 16gb ram is enough, gpu plays everything at good settings, ssd work well..

might look into raising the 7850 to GTX580 / 7950 levels, apparently its a pretty easy tweek, and popping on a better GPU cooler.

that case is lovely though............

I think I'm waiting for Haswell.. or perhaps not... :geek:

Whether I upgrade CPU or not, I'm going passive cooling & PSU in my main machine sometime fairly soon. Will probably have to change cases to improve convective airflow, but have my eye on a few ;)

yeah, changing from the lian li (while it is a nice case) to the parvum would improve cooling.. could get a larger CPU HSF in, more lower speed (controlled) case fans, PSU in its own section so not adding to case heat..

Looks pretty similar Neil. Software on the Aquaero seems to be a bit more 21st Century though.

Will update the other thread once I've had a chance to play....

interesting, my overclock has disappeared too..

Oh ass hat. Just mis set the clock and stuck in a reboot loop. Not paying attention.... :bonk:

While POST,my pc doesn't show o/c
Was bothered about it for as while but nut anymore ;)

going to have to pull the thing apart tonight to clear the CMOS jumper and clean the filters.. think im going to ditch the HD103UI and take out all hard drive cages and replace the akasa viper fans and cpu cooler with noctua ultra quiet jobbies.. and try and tidy the cables..

looked at making some shorter PSU cables but would cost me about £50+ :|

remember kids.. if your case has dust filters, clean them out regularly..

Dust! AHAAAAAH by neilgates, on Flickr

might explain why the 7850 fans were ramping up quickly.. :gag:

Thanks for that, Neil.

I forgot about that in my own computer (to used to £35 case incl. PSU :D)

Anyway, opened up the Antec and there was 18 months of dust

A quick hoover and all is clean again.

Told you you wouldn't need another toolkit once you had the Jackly ;) :D

Me no understandy what the last picture is of....

cant beat it for £4 or whatever it was :D

its the optical bay from the case, for some reason on this revision there is a gap underneath the drive where you can handily slot some SSD into (just needs some double sided sticky to keep them in place). means that as im dropping the 3.5" drive i can remove all drive bays.

As if by magic.. by neilgates, on Flickr

Ahh.. Got you now... You've stuck them to the bottom of the DVD drive... Correct?

kinda but not to the drive, to the optical bay/cage itself.. i'll get a better pic when i stick them in properly
Yup, yup.... got it now... U shaped bracket.

Nice....

Just like the cuddly toys ;) :p

<doubly posty... not sure how that happened!>

im trying to work out if i went for an aquaero where it would go, the only real place i can see it fitting would be on the underside of the optical bay (to the left of the drive in my last pic). but i think the metal is too narrow for the mount pattern.

The device is about 40mm x 140mm and comes with 4 standoffs with screw holes in the base.

I have to say, now I have one, I am really glad I spent the money. I will be able to optimise the PC for silence and judge the effect of dialling fan speeds up or down has to the mounted components (I'll do a set of idle & load tests later today now I have the sensors attached to the components properly!)

i think im umming and ahhing more because of the GPU, its never going to be a "silent" system as such..
And I think that's why people dismiss the NoFan.... Currently deciding between a Z77 or wait for Haswell.. The only problem is that all the boards that have x16 slots beyond slot 2 (needed to get graphics further away to give good airflow for NoFan) have a dirty great PLX chip generating heat next to the processor... That and they're £250 and up

What are the standoffs like on the aquaero? Are they like normal motherboard type with a male thread one end and a female thread the other? Or when you say screw hole in the bottom are they female both ends?

Female both ends... about 5mm tall from memory...

It's only cost me 20 notes to get my liquid system up and running again, also sorted the horrendous cable mangaement system of the cosmos s case, my dremel tool has been busy :D

completely hollow? so you could bolt straight through? or is it threaded?
Threaded. You'd want to use a plastic tube spacer if you wanted a bolt through.

spend last night P-clipping all of the cables in the case down. i will have a tidy SFF case with no interrupted airflow.. :bat:
Which is why I won't do a SFF - I just hide mine behind the mobo tray :D

damn you..

Your order consisted of the following items:

Aqua Computer Aquaero 5 LT USB Fan-Controller
Aqua Computer Heat sink for aquaero 5 (new version, height approx. 20 mm)

also:

1x Noctua NH-U9B SE2 Dual Fan Quiet CPU Cooler
1x 120/140mm Noctua NF-P14 FLX Vortex-Control Quiet Case Fan
3x 120mm Noctua NF-S12B FLX Ultra Quiet Flexible (Veri-Speed) Cooling Fan
3x 50cm Akasa Super Slim SATA rev 3.0 data cable with securing latches - Blue

Ahahahaahahahahaahahahaha :D

The geek in you won't be disappointed - you will now be able to get the case running as quiet as you want and have the fans come on depending on where you have the temp monitors and how warm you want to let things get.

Will be interested in your views of the Noctua. By the way, other than my laptop, the loudest thing here is the 4 bay Startech unless I'm recoding video (soon to buy a better mobo and try passive I think) ;)

yeah, thanks :D

i'll be spending the weekend figuring out how the hell i can mount it. going to be a blue peter special

the cpu cooler noctua? basically it was one of the quietest HSF that met the 125mm max height i could use. will report back.

Sticky backed plastic and some fairy liquid bottles :D

gotta love OCUK, even their free (forum members) 1st class postage arrives next day..

i had to bend this little guy a bit to get the HS on though

im very impressed by my blue peter mount though :D

just need to wait until monday for the fans to arrive from Scan. getting increasingly paranoid about using a screwdriver/metal object to short the motherboard power switch

scratching my head on my overclock too, having a similar problem to this thread - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=478744 - where my clock isnt throttling back and its running a bit warm

PS. Talk about Heath Robinson :p Looks like it was just built to fit there.... although it's going to be awfully fiddly to get the wires attached with it that way around.
