Looks interesting, if it's as good as the rest of the Art range could be very interesting. I already have the 35mm and the 50mm and was thinking of getting the 24mm but I might hold of on that now and get this instead.

Very interested in this. Depending on its size and weight. If it's as good optically as the 35 and not huge then it might be perfect.
 
I've seen people complaining (not here) about the limited zoom range but as the guys above have said if it's anything like the 24 and 35mm primes but in one package I think it could be very interesting.
 
Probably going to be an optical tour-de-force but I just do not get the point of this over say a 24mmf1.4. Just crop !
 
Strange focal length. Weren't they rumoured to be developing a 24-70 f/2?
 
If they do develop the 24-70 f2, going by the quality of their ART series of lenses it could well be a quality piece of kit.
 
Isn't there also a rumour for a 24-70 2.8 IS ART?
After having my 35 ART a while now and loving it, it's a new 85mm I want them to bring out in the same range.

Their current 85 is superb and quite new so I think they'll find it difficult to top, they also have other priorities from what I've read.
 
Made me think a little about focal lengths. I often use the 35 but never had a 24 prime. Obviously you have too loose some of the image but would many recommend the 24 and cropping?

I had noticed their current 85mm is quite new. To be honest there's loads of rumours about for new lenses that people "want" as opposed to what's actually coming out so I'm more than happy to sit back and wait.
 
I had a Sigma 85mm f1.4 and until I got my Sony 55mm I thought the Sigma was the best AF lens I'd ever had, it's better than their old 50mm f1.4 which I also had.

It's been interesting seeing Sigma develop over the years from being (arguably) the cheap option through to producing some very nice lenses like the 12-24mm, the macro lenses and the 50 and 85mm f1.4's and on to producing (arguably) some of the best AF lenses you can fit to a Canon or Nikon DSLR.
 
Wow, thats me out then 940g! If it had been around that of the 35mm I would have been interested.

Yup, the 24 and 35 Art lenses are only 660g and a stop quicker.
I see this as a pointless lens, buy either the 24 and crop if required or the 35.

Even the 18-35mm F1.8 is 810 grams so I guess 940g isn't much of a shock :)

I'm not sure how a lens could be pointless? It's there to fulfil a role so if you don't need a lens that does 24-35mm F2 then you don't need to worry about this one. If on the other hand you could use a 24mm lens and a 35mm lens and you don't need it to be faster than F2 then this isn't exactly useless :) I guess it'll really come down to the image quality.

I was worried that the narrow focal range on my 18-35mm would be a problem but it isn't an issue for me.
 
Yeah I guess that unless you currently carry the 24/28/35mm lenses already, you won't save much by getting this instead.
 
i reckon this lens is designed as a space saver and not a pocket saver. I use a 35mm prime and this would be an interesting lens to have.
 
Anyone got a copy of this yet? Some review online but not many, I think its a bit too big and will stick to my 35.

I have ordered one hasn't arrived yet though hopefully here tomorrow.
 
As someone else said above, with the roll that Sigma are currently on with their art lenses, it will be great if they do a 24-70 F2 or F2.8 art version. If its as good as the others it'll be stellar !

I've no clue if it's in development, but if a 24-70 f2.8 is close to 1kg, an f2 version is sure to be an unweildy beast for little gain (in my opinion).

The size/weight/cost/relatively slow aperture of the 24-35 f2 means that it won't interest me either.
 
Saw someone on a messageboard write: "It's not like a prime lens that zooms. It's a zoom lens that doesn't zoom that much."

That's a fair shout imo.
 
A bit like a few people seem to be thinking around here, all these art lens seem damn good but there are absolutely huge even the prime.
I did consider the 18-35 on a crop sensor but with a size like this!
 
Despite its limited range it's a zoom with a constant F2!
It's bridging the gap between a zoom and a prime. People who are prime only and want a wide aperture may convert to this if the quality is there. Conversely, zoom lovers might want to know what all the fuss is with a wide aperture, albeit only marginally faster than the 2.8 zooms. Interesting lens.
 
Any indication as to pricing on this lens yet ?
 
If recent Sigma efforts are to go by this will probably be a great lens in optical terms. I just do not see the point in it ? Given the high pixel count in most cameras nowadays why not just get a fast wide prime and crop a bit or take a step or two forwards or backwards in some instances ?

Good point pingu666. Maybe better togs than me can take full advantage of this range ?
 
It's not about being "better" it's about seeing an advantage, or not in your case :D

I used to have a Canon 20-35mm and it was honestly not the greatest lens ever made and although I use primes 99% of the time I can see the appeal of this high quality wide aperture zoo lens and I'm pretty sure it'll sell.
