new phone due

the palm pre has just been released. its being marketed as the iphone killer, so that might be worth checking out, or the new sony ericssen phone with a 12mp camera. but it depends on what you are looking for in a phone other than for it to make calls and text messages

No disrespect intended, but don't waste your time even thinking about the Palm Pre.

Widely heralded as the biggest anticlimax in phone history!

As Krypto says, it all depends on what you want the phone to do and how you will use it as to what is the best handset to look at.

by who? i have it and i've been extremeley impressed with it, certainly glad I got it instead of the iPhone. The OS is extremely well put together and works nice and fluidly, its got all the bells and whistles you expect from a current generation of mobile, its nice looking, very easy to use, highly recommended from me

Out of about 20 folk I know who have tested or have the phone, you're one of 3 who have been positive. I tested it and found it to be extremely clunky against my iPhone (2G at that)...
My vote would be for the iPhone 3GS. There is nothing yet to touch it's interface and app support in my opinion. But that said, it's your opinion that counts so pop down to O2 and have a play with both to make up your own mind.

thought the build quality was pretty damn good myself, most that I have spoken to have been extremely positive about it, reviews around various forums seem to be confirming this. Its interface is easily a match for the iPhone to my mind, where its behind right now is on the apps, however with an open source linux base for that we should see quite a burst of third party apps being created

It all depends on what you use if for (not stating the obvious) if you are after a music phone then it has to be iPhone but if you are after a solid business phone then the e series phones

Once you have had an iphone there is no turning back. Great to use, loads of apps, some people do knock it for a few bits - sure, its camera is 'only' 2mp whereas some of the Sonys are 8mp and have lights that act as flash, but i rarely use mine for pics.

Have a play with one, will beat anything else.

I've got the Palm Pre and love it, I traded the iPhone 3G in for it and I prefer the Palm.

I've just been given a new iphone 3gs from work and am installing itunes now, so I'll let you know in a few hours.
Personally, I think the new HTC Leo (due November) looks very good -windows 6.5 mobile plus multitouch)

I'm loving my iphone 3GS!
It seems to do everything that my ipod touch and my samsung phone did, but only 1 item in the pocket!!

Hold out for the Nokia N900 - I am

Now that is toted as being the iphone killer

I was considering a palm pre but quite honestly the specs are sub par for a phone of that price and market.

iphone setup was extremely straight-forward, but I didn't really want itunes on my PC, but you have to, its ok though.
Phone is easy to use, already downloaded Rock Band game - not bad, but not a patch on the real game on xbox (brill BTW). Setup a VPN link to my desktop PC at work - it nearly means I don't have to actually go to work anymore .
Anyway, nice device, lots of things to keep me amused for a while ..

I am currently torn between the HTC Hero and the HTC HD2. The probable deciding factor of which I go for will be the price of the HD2 when released next week on O2. Going for the HTC's as they can do one thing the iPhone can not do and that is multi tasking, yes the android and windows app stores arent as big as the Apple one but lets be honest most of the ones there are a pile of cr*p arent they? Plus EVERYBODY and their dog has an iPhone.

Just my two pence worth.

i just want a phone that i can use as a phone not fussed about camera got a 50d for that:Dand L glass :p want a nice phone for everyday use texin blue tooth etc not fussed about touch screen either just a nice usable phone

See the iphone might be the be all and end all of mobile phones but they don't work in our village at all, all I hear is bloody iphone all the time :D so I just smile sweetly and say, would you like to use my LG Cookie

Orange is the only provider we can really get in our village. O2 is one of the worst

Might be a good phone but if you haven't got the signal to use it, it becomes a tad useless :p

Orange get to provide the Iphone in Novermber, so you do get the opportunity to have an iPhone on Orange.

02's network is pretty good, definately better than Vodaphone's, but I have ocaisionally had no signal (down a welsh gold mine, in the tube, or in devizes :D )

The strange one was on holiday in Sri Lanka we had nearly a full signal absolutely everwhere, including in valleys, in the middle of nowhere. Why can't the Uk be covered like that.

:p only just got this one so won't be going to iphone just yet

I've had the Nokia 5800. Its not bad, but has rubbish build quality and isn't as 'smooth' graphics etc as LGs. I'm due for upgrade in January, fingers crossed vodafone will offer me the, fanfare, Iphone then. Failing that, an LG Chocolate would be sweeet. (no pun intended)!

Just read your post and have to say in mine. families and friends experience O2 are rubbish. Definately poor in Wales. Vodafone works pretty much everywhere here, and we're out in the sticks!

I'm currently with o2 and I regularly have coverage issues - even in areas on the edge of major cities. Rubbish really.

Plus IMO the o2 phone offerings and contract prices for their premium phones (read palm pre and iphone) are beyond ridiculous. They take the ******

They are dear compared to the likes of 3. Mind you, mine is £30 pm 12mth contract for 250 m and 100 t. But its thru dialafone so works out £17 which isn't too bad, and nice new phone every yr!

Got to be the e series then ........the Blackberry killer:razz:

You might want to qualify that out because the rest of the world completely disagree with you... :nono:

£30 p/m
250mins
100texts and a new phone every year and it works out at £17 p/m:thinking:

Virgin mobile do a contract similar but...

£15 p/m
New shiny phone
500 mins
unlimited texts

and if you dont use all your mins the monthly price is less, I have only paid my £18 monthly charge twice during my 6 months so far and have contacted Virgin to see if its correct and YES it is......if you dont use it you dont pay......nuff said:thumbs:

Yes great deal BUT... out here in the where we are, vodafone is the only one that works - everyone else is ****. That is the only reason I'm with voda, and I'm on the best deal on voda I can find I think. I'll convince my parents to move to the town... then we can get cable tv, cheap broadband!!!::lol:

Wow £101 pm, thats a helluva lot! Makes our BT £45 sound like nothing...

we have the ultimate package v+ and sky so its not that bad if you price sky and virgin seperate............but still going to get it lowered at my next review date

I see now...still IMHO two companies for, I'm guessing, TV, broadband and Phone is a little excessive.
