I am currently working as a Warehouse and traffic administrator for a very large distribution centre and employed by one of the worlds largest shipping companies.
My job is using a computer based system that feeds the warehouse the pick assignments for up to 150 picking staff and making sure the reach truck drivers also have work, amongst doing LMS and the KPI to ensure all employees times are correct and all bonus payments are correct, there is also the goods in side of the job that has to be done which means dealing with bonded goods......very stressfull.
Last but not least the traffic admin side, invoicing customers and printing off all delivery notes for each individual run (up to 70 per shift) and each run varies between 2 and 16 customers so quite a few, then theres the media system that every pallet and high value tote has to be input including seal numbers and pump trucks and even electric pump trucks, then onto the other database to input the same data AGAIN....once this is done the whole of the delivery notes are put into the drivers box with various sheets for trailers ect and make sure theres a torch and camera is in the box and working.........then on to another system to allow the lorry to leave the site.

This is a very basic insight to my job and JPS who also works here does the same but has the added privelige of keeping the whole computer system working.

Now you are probably wondering why I am writing this ....well I have just put in for another job at work for the same money as I earn now but the hours of work are much better than my regular shift work (0600-1400/1400-2200)

10am to 6pm are the new hrs and the job is a cleaner, no stress and no disciplinary action if I miss type a pallet and the salary is the same........the mind boggles

Thanks Matt, I really dont mind leaving the office job as there are many more parts to the job I havent mentioned like the tons of paperwork and fileing and phone calls every minute of the day and the shift managers constantly harrassing you to put times in for 20 people at a time and this is just a VERY basic insight into the job we do, we are extremely undermanned and have not even got time to visit the toilet as every minute is crucial and people do get the sack for the slightest thing here as the smallest mistake costs money so ..... bring on the broom

 sounds like madness!
Absolutely can see why you want to move!
Dont fancy togging full time then??

would love to mate but its getting enought people to pay the bills and that would mean weddings and my mate Paul has this around here and has invested heavily to get it up n running and his friendship means more to me than dosh, so its a sweeping brush and polish for me for the time being if I can convince the boss to let me go

Well Pete, after the shift that I've had, and I know you had the same over your side, then I'd be tempted to go cleaning too. Today just seemed the shift from hell. Non stop, I even had to ring the canteen up to ask them not to close at 7pm as they normally do as I was running late and wouldn't be there until just after 7 hahahah.
