I am currently working as a Warehouse and traffic administrator for a very large distribution centre and employed by one of the worlds largest shipping companies.
My job is using a computer based system that feeds the warehouse the pick assignments for up to 150 picking staff and making sure the reach truck drivers also have work, amongst doing LMS and the KPI to ensure all employees times are correct and all bonus payments are correct, there is also the goods in side of the job that has to be done which means dealing with bonded goods......very stressfull.
Last but not least the traffic admin side, invoicing customers and printing off all delivery notes for each individual run (up to 70 per shift) and each run varies between 2 and 16 customers so quite a few, then theres the media system that every pallet and high value tote has to be input including seal numbers and pump trucks and even electric pump trucks, then onto the other database to input the same data AGAIN....once this is done the whole of the delivery notes are put into the drivers box with various sheets for trailers ect and make sure theres a torch and camera is in the box and working.........then on to another system to allow the lorry to leave the site.
This is a very basic insight to my job and JPS who also works here does the same but has the added privelige of keeping the whole computer system working.
Now you are probably wondering why I am writing this ....well I have just put in for another job at work for the same money as I earn now but the hours of work are much better than my regular shift work (0600-1400/1400-2200)
10am to 6pm are the new hrs and the job is a cleaner, no stress and no disciplinary action if I miss type a pallet and the salary is the same........the mind boggles
