Ive been ready to push the button on a BTO 27" for a couple of months now to replace my 24" machine.
There don't seem to be many imacs coming up in the refurb store, but if a 3.4i7 with the 2gb vram comes up at a good price i'd probably go for that. The reason I held off was that I didn't want to pay full price for 12 month old spec....... money off through clearance might change that![]()
Out of interest, is cs6 and lr4 available as digital download?
Or are we going to be forced by outside software to buy a drive anyway?
I have got imac 27 2011 model with 2 128gb SSD disk ( raid ) One of the fastest computer on this planet.)I did upgrade my self. The best is get one refurbished one from apple store and than do upgrade. The speed is amazing. Even the new imac can't beat this

I use Aperture 3. Available through the app shop.
.....I am left disgusted with the lack of many obvious features of all sorts.
Now that is interesting. Like what?
Chris
Many things. For a start I was struggling to see what was RAW or JPEG.
Now for the more serious part: no grad filters, no proper shadow recovery, noise reduction is pants, no perspective correction and so on
download LR trial and see the new possibilities

WTF, that's no good too me, I was not aware of this, how are you meant to use other cd/DVD programmes ????
neil_g said:Copy to USB or you can share the drive in another machine, or buy an external drive..

It's more the lack of design - you have this wonderfully sleek machine on your desktop but can't even put a CD/DVD in it (let alone a BluRay - but that's another discussionYou can get external drive for £20, so not a deal breaker in my mind, and I guess Apple will retort that many people moaned when floppy drives stopped being put in machines as standard.

I guess it's just another way of making paying for content through iTunes more attractive....
I'm aware. But people have something called legacy you know.... and some people just prefer silver disks to having to bootstrap a machine with a USB stick. Not really. Almost all software is going download route

I think people will end up with a DVD drive as well (whether it is Apple or not) and it just grates that you have something so sleek, but have to have an external unit to do things. It's not like you can't make slim DVD drives....
Which is the straw that breaks the camels back?Is the loss of a DVD drive that much of a deal breaker?
Convenience > design/portability
Bit like the lack of native Ethernet in the retina but that's another thread
In my opinion.
Retina has no wired ethernet???
