New Car - (not many of you will like)

So you tell me its not a 4x4 that's its a crossover! if you want to dress it up like it needs to more than talk the talk.Hmmm id hazard I guess that if you put it on slightly rough terrain you'd be left with bits all over the field and you'd definitely need a roof airbag. You've obviously bought into the hype so enjoy it, but if as already has been suggested its been discounted so much its not selling and you might find it rather difficult to sell at a decent price at change time. Did they offer you a guaranteed future value?

Of course its not off-road I suspect that one in the photo would be just done up for maybe a show or something.

I don't buy into any hype and that is why I don't have an iphone but a Moto G instead - I buy something after lots of research and trying something out. I have never even seen an advert for the cactus and I would not think there would be much hype about it. To be honest I would be surprised if it did sell loads as its a unique car and very different and people don't like something that is to different it scares them and they feel comfort in following others.

Citroen do have discounts but as far as I am aware it was on any citroen and we got extra discount because we were coming from another make (Mazda)

The car was bought on PCP so we have it for 3 years and its a guaranteed price at the end and we have a full warranty over that period.

I totally understand people not liking the car ( I did not to start with  ) but I said to my wife I would go take a look like I always do and put an preconceptions aside - I actually started the test drive with a very negative attitude. But once I drove it I was hooked and was reluctant to take it back. So for us it was a no brainer a car with excellent reviews (look for yourself) full warranty over the time we own it, great to drive, superb MPG and loads of extras plus its different from all the other bland "same" cars on the roads (y) plus its the same price as a 4 year old Nissan with a nice long 3 month warranty :cautious: :ROFLMAO:

Very very wise John - out of interest what was the OTR price and what was the GFV?
Like I said before, if its what you want enjoy it - it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. I drive a 4x4 but its partially a work tool and I wouldn't trust any of the crossovers over some of the farm tracks I encounter.

I would need to check with the finance minister for more details on money - Katie is superb at handling money so she gets the job but I do know we got this car which is top of the range for the same price as mid range because they had one already in stock and wanted the sale for September to help with overall sales targets. The offer would have been off the table a few days later so result.

I would not dare take this off road....... :jawdrop: - I reckon I would be picking bits up after off the track

I used to have a Lada Niva 4X4 (don't laugh) it was rough but it was VERY good off road

Citroen have never been frightened to break the mould with design. I think the Cactus looks pretty good, especially the front end. Enjoy the new car.

(And at least it stopped you buying a Juke. The car that was designed by Stevie Wonder. )

Funny that I actually like the Nissan Juke. Especially Nismo tuned...

Each to their own; personally I think they look hideous. Definitely style over substance in the design too, the raked rear end means there's very little boot space for the size of the car.

Yes the front of the cactus does look mean and that is one part I am surprised more don't like

I have never liked the Juke and we did test drive one and liked it less, you are right the boot is tiny and I tell you the Citroen reverse camera is leagues ahead of the juke

It is a small car, much smaller than the segment the Cactus operates...

Yup and the 360 Degree one on my car is mile ahead of that one...There will always be something, but reverse camera's and parking sensors on such small cars I do find a little OTT myself...

Well I can only go off what I tried. We did also see a reverse camera in the quasqai and that was in the mirrors and the rear but still a low quality screen that was hard to make out. The cactus screen is big and clear but reverse camera etc are just gimmicks really but could be handy. The first car we had with reverse sensors was the almera and now I do really like them no matter the size of the car

I quite like it, a no nonsense practical car that can take a bump or too. Perfect for a jobbing car

Haha. Design, squishy egg-box sides, reversing camera, strange accessories .......

made for those who cannot park and those who frequent supermarkets a lot. Its not a bad car and for the money a good buy, IMHO.

Hey, I don't disagree with you really. (y) TBH I don't mind the look of it & for the money is actually pretty good.

Just having a laugh with others @ John's `bravery` :D

Edit, just to add, I like Defenders & the Skoda Yeti. If we still had 2 cars, mine would be a pickup, probably the new L200, but my moneyboss says no.

Its a belting car, but the tartan blanket jokes, old man jokes etc. TBH unless you press on its just as good as a 5 series or E class. Although money no object I'd have a 535d M sport with silver paint, cream or brown leather, pro nav, lumbar support, sun roof, tinted windaes, black headlining, harmon hardon and thats it really. Bit more pricey though...

I did think about the Yeti but it looks to much like a van to me, also looked at Juke (do NOT like the look of it but thought I would give it a go :hungover: ) - bet if I had said I was getting that I would not be getting the p*** taken as that is more mainstream and 'allowed' and bloody ugly - but its a same car so would be OK

Also looked at Quashqui <- not sure how to spell that but one thing I did notice was engine sizes these days. What happened to 2 litre cars. Our Mazda 6 is 2.2 and everything seems to be 1.5 or 1.6 - is that to save the Earth or something

I drive a Volvo S80, I miraculous escaped lots of pee taking over that choice of car.
To be fair, it does go really nice together with your tweed hat and feather :)

or 2.5?

Yeah, it's all about green stuff/politics these days. (& how much the govt's can screw you for) :meh: :indifferent:

We also looked at the new squashi, but smaller engines as you say & they didn't do the larger + like they used to.
Also looked at the new X-trall, but they don't even make the diesel with an auto box anymore.

Anyroad (you asked earlier) I finally decided on a Mitsi GX4 Outlander. (2.2 turbo ;) )

Now see I cannot say anything as it now looks like I am being petty - but I think I saw one of those in white in the tesco carpark last night am I right in saying they are H U G E - like a bus

But anyway I do quite like the front of them - but that's all - sorry just being honest

But being a Mitsubishi it will go well and I am sure will have loads of toys

But going back to engine size I was shocked at the size of engines now for such big cars as the Quaschai

No I am sure it was the same as this

mitsubishi-outlander-2-rear-tracking.jpg

If this is the right one it looked huge in the car park - its weird as Katie and I just saw this one in white like above last night and I commented to Katie how large it was and said "Imagine parking that"

But last night was the first time I have seen one - are they new out ?

The outlander huge? I think you must be mixing it up with something else.

Engine size don't mean that much. Sure in the past with naturally aspired engines there was no substitute over cubic inches as the Americans used to say. But nowadays. Nah. Our main family car is a twin turbo and much better now than any of its larger engined predecessors. And likewise for my little all wheel drive Golf. It's lost two cylinders and 1300cc, yet it is much faster in every sense and experience than its predecessors.

Aye,John, I just edited my post.

Well they aint small cars obviously, but my Moneyboss can park it easily (& fairly happily) She preferred her Yaris, when we had 2 cars, but as long as she has the reversing camera she's OK. She refused to let me test drive the L200 though

She has good sense, it is horrible to drive. Turn the steering wheel, count to ten, wait a bit longer and yes it starts turning. One of the few cars where I just turned around on the test drive as it was utterly horrible and years behind he competition to drive on the road.

Are you referring to the new one that came out last month? Series 5 (different altogether now)

No, the previous one. They better have changed the full drive train and steering rack. As even the TWR version couldn't make the old ones decent.

Maybe it was something else we saw as it was getting dark but it looked very similar to the photo above but whatever it was it was HUGE and the size is what caught our eye

It might be interesting to see what others who took the p*** out of me drive on here........ o_O

On a par with the Amarok now & better than many others.

I was talking with the mechanics (sorry, service technicians  ) & they were saying one of the salesmen wasn't a fan of the L200 at all, but when this new model came out, he completely changed his mind & rated it immensely.

I know we're comparing different vehicles really, but they aren't like the 4X4's of old anymore.

Well they are as the pickups do have the leaf springs. They have to as without them they won't be able to pass the one tonne load barrier and thus can't be classed as a good vehicle for vat deduction etc. A quick review of the reviews reveals it still excels off-road, which is great and hence many farmers and builders have them, I still wouldn't go there if on road is the main bias.

Oh no secret what I drive I would have thought.

A VW Golf

meh, looks like way too much electronics in the way of driving. Too much to go wrong and takes away the fun. I'll stick with my RWD mid engined non ABS/Traction control/power steering > 20mph death machine :).
