New Car - (not many of you will like)

Not all. Can't remember which pickup it is that has coils though.
Iirc it was the L200 TWR but then you'd forgo the tax benefits and if you can't get those and you aren't a farmer/builder/terrorist then what's the point ;)

What happened to 2 litre cars. Our Mazda 6 is 2.2 and everything seems to be 1.5 or 1.6 - is that to save the Earth or something

The latest Jags have their new 2 litre engine. If the figures quoted are correct (no reason to doubt them - they're not VWs!!!) they're pretty close to the old 3 litre in terms of performance (comparing the new XF with the Ingenium 2 litre 4 cylinder to the old XF with the 3 litre V6) and significantly more economical. A fair amount of that can be put down to the new version shedding 190kg.

My eyes my eye. I need bleach :p

Yes the front of the cactus does look mean and that is one part I am surprised more don't like
Probably because it doesn't look mean. ;)
But going back to engine size I was shocked at the size of engines now for such big cars as the Quaschai
I have to agree with you on the Quashquai, the engines are small and not particularly powerful to boot. Most manufacturers now have smaller capacity more efficient engines pushing out equivalent or more power than larger capacity engines. Not sure why the Quashquai doesn't have more power from their smaller capacity engines.

I drive a Citroen and a Landrover. I'll not actually knock Citroen as I think they're actually on their game at the moment.

In terms of reliability I'm more than happy with a few years of Citroens on the road but in the sticky stuff or Scottish winters I'm more than happy to stick with my Disco.

Well it was a suprise to me I was asking the sales girl - "so were are the Quashquai's with proper engines"

I am just old school with the thought of bigger vehicles need bigger engines.

Yeah I did read that Citroen was not good with reliability but I felt happier than mine will have a manufactures warranty for the whole time I own it (3 years)

That's becoming more and more part of modern 'new' car ownership schemes. If it breaks so what. No hardship to seller or protected customer.

Buying used and taking the car on for another 5 years is another matter.

Shame they didn't do the same as with the juke and bring the nismo version to the uk. Juke brings it into Fiesta ST power. A Qashqai at Focus ST levels would be fun.

Yeah very true its a good way to buy a car really..... we are buying this for :naughty: LESS :woot: than a year old Quashquai which would have had a huge 3 month warranty

Have you considered a Dacia Duster that is even less if that is so important. The true cost of ownership I find much more interesting opposed to initial value. But yes, no doubt about it that the cactus is a very cheap vehicle. Especially on lease. Is the PCP comparable to the PCH prices that I highlighted earlier?

All new cars come with a mimimum of 3yrs warranty, some have 5 some have 7. A year old Qashquai would have the balance of the warranty, so two years at least.

I did look at the Duster but reviews were not very good and cost is not the only issue we look at a variety of things before buying but getting good value for your money is a good point

The duster looks crudely built by comparison with most recent cars. I looked at Dacia, and while they often get lots of positive votes, it wasn't working for me. When it came to doing the rounds of the dealers there were rows of Jukes/Quashqais sitting outside Nissan and they didn't look well designed at all: odd looks, high and narrow boots, mixed lumpy & streamlined at the same time. It's a design of car that seems bizarre, though I've not driven one unlike John.

OK just a little update on this thread - I got my car and VERY happy with it, lovely to drive and very unique and quirky with LOADS of bells and whistles

A few photos taken today for you to drool over ;) :woot: Oh and this does 90mpg

The exterior in black isn't as bad as some I've seen. But that interior, oh dear. That looks worse than a Fiat Multipla with plastic everywhere. Better be recycled plastic :p

Anyway, as long as you enjoy it. That is all that matters.

Its not that bad with plastic really but then again most are these days. Just to the left the glovebox top its not plastic and the door arn't either - its actually a nice interior when in and better than our Mazda 6

Photo just makes it look naff

Here is a photo of the web which shows more, glovebox is huge - fit my fuji X30 in its case no problem in it as the airbag is in the roof so more space

Lol that is where I recognise it from :) my dad has an orange estate version.

I saw a new one at lunchtime today that had clearly been caught out in a hailstorm. I upped the contrast to try to show the bonnet contours better:

Note the plastic front panel looks quite untouched.

The Duster is crudely built compared to most other cars but then it's half the price of most other cars too. What you don't get are the bells and whistles which in many ways is good because you can add what you want at aftermarket prices not dealer rip off. What you do get is tried and tested Renault technology (engine/electrics etc.) with in the case of the 4x4 a drive system based on the Nissan Xtrail. My 4x2 Duster is a really nice car to drive, loads of room and loads of oomph! when it's needed. It's not for everyone but it seems to suit quite a few, I think Dacia are UKs biggest growing brand just now.

Question, is the drivers MFD adjustable for rake? it seems that without a shade of some sort the sun glare might make it difficult to see sometimes.

Well they must have been on to something as its great to use ;)

`Quartic` wheel  I think they were trying to be seen as futuristic. The design was dropped after a year or so (y)

Orange? :wideyed: I thought they were all hearing-aid beige :D

I saw a new one at lunchtime today that had clearly been caught out in a hailstorm.

A couple of months ago, there was a hellish hail storm in our area & hundreds of cars were damaged & looked like the one you've shown.
Amongst them were quite a few expensive, top end, motors.

A local news crew were at a recovery centre were they'd been insurance assessed & waiting repair.

They had a South African guy brought in who specialises in hail-damage & travels the globe. He reckoned he would be there for a few weeks!

Is the MFD the control screen ? If so then its fixed but its quite a steep angle away from screen and is quite a matt finish so maybe it won't be bad. I have not had this long but its been sunny and no problems yet

Actually, looking at that pic again, it looks like it could be criminal damage? (Maybe hubby with his golf club when wifey turned up in their new car :D )

The speedo screen behind the steering wheel, I'm sure they'd have thought of it before hand so not likely to be an issue :)

I think not matter what I put up picture wise or spec wise in this thread you will take the p*** - Listen I get it I do I know a car like this which is unusual and not the accepted 'same' as all the others out there will take some stick. I remember when I got my Kia years back before they were trendy and people laughed at that (until they had been in it) and also my Lada 4X4 until they saw it off road.

I knew when I put this thread up there would be comments like yours - it does not bother me at all - to long in the tooth and thick skinned but regardless of your thoughts on the looks etc it really is a nice car to drive and a pleasure to be in

I have had many cars over the years and this one puts one of the biggest smile on my face :)

Yeah its is set back and has a kind of hood over the top and is VERY clear and the the speedo is large white square numbers made of little blocks if that makes sense which when turned off disappear one by one - looks very cool

The MX5 maybe a so called hairdresser car but I heard they are superb to drive. I used to have a Nissan 200sx (that was a mental car) and I was in an owners club and a few lads on their tried the MX5 out and were very impressed

Tell you what the app that Citroen have to connect to the car is very cool, maybe other cars have the same but you can log mileage, mpg, service date, etc, etc all from your phone ..... very good

Hey with a thread title like you choose what do you expect? You were asking for some stick...

And to be fair the Kia from yesteryear has not all of a sudden become trendy, nor has the Kia of today. It is undoubtedly a value proposition that has become an even better value proposition, but lets not kid anyone that it is anything more than that. Likewise I always like the Niva offroad, but again it was seriously s*** on-road even when it was just launched, and not very comfortable.....

Basically you asked for stick and you got nowhere near as much as you originally expected

Do your 'sticking' my friend ;)
