New Car - (not many of you will like)

Coincidentally, I spotted one of these on my way back from dropping Mrs Nod off in town - black with red mirrors. TBH, it looked pretty good apart from looking like it had had its mirrors knocked off and replaced with scrapyard ones in the wrong colour.
Speaking of which who remembers this little beauty ;)

Anyway back on topic. The Cactus is certainly "interesting" and took the top honours at this years Motor Trader Awards. having looked at them closely the squishy sides seem a good idea however if they could make it so they don't stand out so much I think it would be better received. However what do I know. Enjoy :D

I reckon some side skirts would look the part

However looking like this I could be tempted :)

 Ha. WTF?!

Was it some sort of homage to those fruit flavoured polo sweets?

Yes I do remember that one. Reminded me of a bad Mondriaan copy.

No they are just not afraid to try something new and different. Maybe they are sick of seeing the same old car designs on the road. You can look in a carpark and everything just looks so similar just with different badges on.

But people have always been scared of change and get comfort in following the crowd

Agreed, but I can't help thinking that they had no success in France, so they thought I know, the Brits'll buy anything we'll shift'em over there ok :D

:) yeah I'll have a brand new car with all the extras and a 3 year warranty, a car that gets superb reviews for the price of a 4 year old Nissan...... Yep jokes on me

Good for you :)
As I said previously, I'd never ( seriously) knock a persons choice of car, it's what works for you.
I hope you enjoy your new toy

No joke on you. As everyone said; as long as you like it and are happy with it than what does it matter. However let's be honest as you are an intelligent chap. If they were flying out of the showroom they wouldn't discount them so much. That is one of the indications regarding desirability. Another will be the resale value when it is four years old. None of that matters of course if you like it in the first place as it will mean you can happily take advantage of the discounted price. And depreciation is not bad either when you buy it cheap in the first place.

Citroen has had most of its time interesting and quirky designs. Sometimes ground breaking and taken on by other manufacturers. Personally I don't think the cactus falls in that category. I think it is more a case of having designed a very boring and ordinary car that nobody wants. To having that car accessorised with some bits stuck on to make it "different". A bit like how Peugeot made that 206 commercial where an Indian chap "modified" his own car to make it appear to be more interesting.

But hey it's just an opinion, just like everyone will have one about anyone else's or their own choices as well.

the cactus says C4 but it has little to do with it apparantly but there is one thing that is a world first on this (apart from the super air bumps  ) and that is the passenger air bag is in the roof..... not sure how that works but it has an excellent ncap rating so it must. But that means the dash is a lot lower and with more room for a bigger glovebox etc.

It really is noticble with the low dash though as you have supeb view out the window :)

I reckon that will be appearing on other cars soon  once they catch up

Just think about it.
Folk are going to to laugh, so as you drive around your town, you spot a friend walking along. You accelerate & slide down as low as poss & try to hide behind the wheel, or pretend you're reaching for something in the glove-box & you hit a parked car/kerb & turn it over.............. It's there for any innocent passenger's protection. After all, it's not their fault! :ROFLMAO:

What do you drive - out of interest ?

I remember years back I bought a Lada - Yes a LADA - it was the 4X4 version and people did take the p*** as you would expect as it was again something - dare I say *looking :cautious: around" different but once they saw how good it was especially when it snowed they stopped laughing........... but I never :woot:

Bless you for supporting the French economy!

Other similar vehicles also have a 4 star NCAP rating and have a higher adult occupancy rating without having the airbag in the roof.

I really like this cactus and I like the Renault twingo so we'll do to you for daring to be different.

We bought a skoda yeti and people (family) sneered at us for daring to buy a skoda but it's awesome!

I think the French have some great designs like the DS3/5 and I almost bought a renaultsport megane earlier this year but bottled it and bought a used TT instead (don't regret the TT but do regret not buying the megane).

I can see us buying a cactus especially that adventurer one ;)

You'll get lynched saying that out loud on here..........:O

But yes we dare to step out of line sometimes and head a different way......

Citroen are good these days. I have a landrover for my sins but my wife drives one of the new C4 people carriers. Great not so wee car.

Yeah exactly..... It's the future. One review said the front reminded him of iron man.... :)

"Future" styled cars always age badly. Cars just designed to look good don't: Fashion has a short shelf life... good design is good design. Levi Jeans.. Converse sneakers.... the little black dress.... Some things transcend fashion trends. That's what good design does. Some cars look good still after 20 years... some just look old.

Citroen DS 2CV :) I really can't see a C4 type vehicle with some accessories glued on to it make the design history books in a positive way.

Time will tell...... But a lot of cars have trim glued on the side I see cars with huge black plastic strips some with twin plastic strips, some were the plastic comes right up the side but the cactus gets the hate because they decided to make more of a feature of it and also make it more useful. As I said before some colour combinations do look terrible - just to in your face but I would not write a car off because of some trim ??

But I think the invocation on this car is more the inside with the airbags and dashboard etc.

A 2CV isn't exactly known for it's looks unless it was for being fugly. It was for it's ability to perform the task it was designed for.

Now that is a no frills statement :ROFLMAO:

I can remember in the handbook for my Lada 4X4 were most will waffle on about speed, style and changing the world it simply said " Carrying 4 people in reasonable cumfort accross rough terrain" - and that is what it did

Maybe I should have some different wheels on - yeah you all love it really :p admit it :ROFLMAO:

So you tell me its not a 4x4 that's its a crossover! if you want to dress it up like it needs to more than talk the talk.Hmmm id hazard I guess that if you put it on slightly rough terrain you'd be left with bits all over the field and you'd definitely need a roof airbag. You've obviously bought into the hype so enjoy it, but if as already has been suggested its been discounted so much its not selling and you might find it rather difficult to sell at a decent price at change time. Did they offer you a guaranteed future value?
