I reckon Phil was questioning the relevance of using 'Lucifer' as he/it is not an actual historical figure...

Mr Dawkins has a reputation of being many things, none of these reputations has anything to do with me. Have you read his public feeds, there are better people than me who find his rhetoric less than amusing.

I thought many on here would find his attacks on islam divisive at best, if not just plain rude. But no of course shooting the messenger is easier than dissecting one of your more vocal own.

And hope Dick has a full recovery!

BTW my middle name is Richard and Dick is not a sly way of calling him!!

I Hope he has a speedy recovery from his stroke and hope that his brush with mortality may have caused him to think that maybe life is short, death is certain and true or false he will eventually find out IF it makes a difference as to how one lived ones life.

Fwiw I have no idea what fairies you believe in (not sure what SIG people are talking about as they don't show on mobile), it just read as a dig.

Maybe if you'd wished him well the first time around (but minus the thinly veiled digs) it wouldn't have gotten the reaction it did.

Actually... the opposite. I had no idea what your beliefs were UNTIL I read that post... so there must have been SOMETHING in there to make me jump to that conclusion :)

It wasn't necessarily your post I was referring to alone though... but there was definitely a whiff of "Ha.. see?... there is a God, and he's struck him down" nonsense in this thread. It's not like a major celebrity was struck down with a stroke.. and you were not merely reporting such a thing either, as you felt the need to accuse him of being full of hate... just because he disagrees with you... judging him (there's a surprise).

Just accept that some people find organised religion highly offensive (for good reason), and respect that decision, just as you expect me to respect your belief in a bunch of cobbled together nonsense that defies all logic and rationale thought.. OK? We respect your right to worship your magic man in the sky, so just accept the fact that we can criticise that, and express our wishes about how much the world would be improved by getting rid of a primitive need to worship things.

Editing the thread title doesn't get you off the hook either. The intended schadenfreude is palpable in your first post. It wasn't a "Rachard Dawkins has had a stroke" post... it's the equivalent of someone saying "David Bowie is dead... maybe he shouldn't make crap music". It would be pointless, mean, and the response of someone who feels a sense of revenge and righteous fulfilment.

"Think he needs to start taking it easy and start being not so angry and full of hate" was unrelated, and a barely disguised sense of satisfaction. Not very "Christian" of you, was it?

Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Hitler literally asked to be worshiped as gods and they were truly evil (as in anti-human). People had to have their portraits in every room and there were shrines literally for their worship after their death. On that respect they were certainly {human} gods, clearly on par with those back in Egypt, Ancient Greek and Roman days....

On the topic of Lucifer the b*****d is worshiped by hordes of fools and some of the top politicians, whether they truly believe in the spirit or just the cause of harm and destruction. It makes NO difference. Destruction is their idol.

So as you used the word 'literally' you're now going to prove that by giving citations. I'm sure it'll be simple for you as you're so certain. Not that it should matter, because your post is the first to mention that they were Gods, we were debating the nature of 'evil'; however you've started this, you might as well keep digging.

Again, do you have any credible evidence that top politicians are worshiping the devil? It strikes me as an odd assertion to make, again, as you're so certain, providing us with evidence should be enlightening.

He supported the Atheist bus campaign. Which I didn't get and thought it pointless at first. But I then realised that many people are brought up in a religious environment, where they are under a lot of social pressure from family, peers and work colleagues to follow it. I see it a lot in Germany, where the Atheist bus toured and where there is huge respect for authority, the laws, people's qualifications, as well as the church. The Atheist bus campaign showed people that it is okay not to have to respect a church that has been an important part of the society they grew up in. They wouldnt dare disrespect it. And many didn't question that, until the bus campaign. Where the aim was merely to level the playing field.

No, I let it go, their faith is designed to make them feel better, it does no harm for them to believe they're doing something nice.

Of course it does no good either, I just wish they'd be grateful for the people who have actually cured the sick rather than praising something fictional.

Sure, if done sincerely, but I have a feeling some people use it as a kind of perverse threat. I mean how many folk that never openly say they pray for anyone have suddenly said they'll pray for Dawkins?
