Poor old Dick Dawkins, Think he needs to start taking it easy and start being not so angry and full of hate, its gonna be his death! If he's not careful.

I have made an addition to the title - just so its perfectly clear there is no ill will intended, Just reposting the news as reported.

Dick is a perfectly legitimate nick name for a person called Richard! its my middle name so I know.

Is all

Don't hate me because I posted the news - Hate me for being a Christian instead, at least that makes sense for me!

what did he stroke

He didn't do the stroking, he was the receiver the Stroke-e so the news said......

Perhaps a warning shot before he meets Petrous

Who is Dick Dawkins?

Not sure who he'll blame for that TBH, as it was hardly an act of God :D

(or was the none believer smote down? :D )

You seem to be more the hater. And it's "Atheist."

If we pray really hard to the god of cerebrovascular accidents, he'll get better quicker.

At least Richard Dawkins speaks sense.

I've seen him frustrated at stupidity, but hardly angry unlike some of his detractors.

I've yet to see him take the OI! Don't defeat the swear filter! out of someone suffering a stroke either.

I was under the impression Atheists didn't require a 'leader', he's certainly an outspoken individual, but not a leader.

However it's very sad that someone would wish him harm because he had a different belief. One might say that it's hardly a Christian attitude, but Christian attitudes do appear to be a rarity amongst Christians round these parts. (There are exceptions, and I know some really nice religious people in the real world - for balance)

My devout neighbour agrees entirely.

She prefers to be called a person of belief.

Laughing at someone who has had a stroke is a particularly nasty little game.

Reading the OP and the thoughts above reminded me that sometimes other cultural attitudes throws up in western eyes odd and unsettling events..........there was an item on the World Service after 2am last night about acid attacks on women in India and how it is almost condoned by some in that community. Like the statement in the OP such actions are by varying degrees are always beyond the pale!

As is, it would sometimes seem, gang rape, beatings and lynching of girls/women for perceived cultural infractions.

People can be, at times, very scary creatures. :(

For the record I don't want to wish anyone ill, nor harm. The news reported a minor stroke, and a full recovery. Having gone through it myself just prior to christmas, I appreciated the light heartedness of all around me. Peoples reactions are naturally different, but lets not jump to too many conclusions either...

I hope he makes a full recovery and continues to contribute to debates - both scientific and belief based. He is a man with a rather dry sense of humour - which I quite enjoy. Have you seen the YouTube video about the 'love' letters and emails he has received ?

NSFW loads of swearies

That's rather a nice Marine tank he has there too :)

Seen that....but thanks for the reminder :D

I enjoyed Richard Dawkins' comment (he was quoting someone else) about how 'believers' are on balance just as atheistic as he is.

Of the 3000 or so Gods worshiped by humans over the history of the species, they are atheistic towards 2999 of them.

Wonderful. You gotta love him :)

I agree Phil and though I'm a Christian I wouldn't call myself religious in the slightest.

I am a Christian and although I disagree with Mr Dawkins that is as far as it goes.

With that said my thoughts and well wishes are with him and his family at this time

+ 1 Keith

It's all that stress, poor diet full of pesticides and herbicides, fluoride in the water and air contamination. I'll pray he gets better soon.

2998. We don't worship the devil (hopefully!!!) but we all sure know there is all sort of evil out in the world... Lucifer, Mao, Hitler, Stalin, a temptation to laugh at Canon users... :) you name it...

Why anyone thinks trying to promote clear, logical thinking, and ridding the world of the stupidity and ludicrousness of religion is "hating"... and I'm also not sure why many posts in here have a sense of satisfaction at the thought of someone having a stroke either. Perhaps Christians aren't quite as forgiving as they'd have us believe?

Lucifer?

There's no wonder much of the rest of your thinking belongs in the Middle Ages.

The ancient idea of 'Evil' is ridiculous, it's a cop out. Bad people do things that are bad, not because they're driven by some invisible force we label 'evil', but because they're greedy, power hungry, mentally ill, or due to having bad behaviour 'normalised' because they have been victims.

Using the 'evil' label is a cop out, it's for headline writers and simpletons.

Only if you take it at literal as you've just done, not something to do in current day context I would argue. I would say, using a current example, that daesh is evil. Not because of some supernatural force, simply because they are and their actions pretty well fit with the adjective.

As an adjective it's accurate, but in the language used by religion, simpletons and tabloid writers where it becomes a mystical force?

That all depends on ones belief. I don't belief in mystical forces being super natural. However what some may refer to or could be interpreted as a mystical force is in reality an organised (crime) group of mere mortals.

Merely an expression and doesn't make people simpletons. I'd argue only those that take it so literal and can't distinguish the context should really rethink their own interpretation.

Do we not have a no religion/sky fairy clause? - looking at sigs at the start of this thread.

The closest to hate in this thread seems to be in opening post, reveling in other's misfortune. Hardly "love thy neighbour" - although not atypical of individual religious response to reason.

Actually the first time I'd noticed that signature.

It's quite shocking, I'd expect if God was real he'd have a better handle on the people he allows to speak in his behalf. I feel sorry for the decent Christians trying to live a good life who are constantly thwarted by this sort of thing.

I say 'Down with this sort of thing'

Just a bit of trite doggerel.

I wish Mr Dawkins no ill at all.

Those that think my post is some sort of dig at a man who has health issues could not have gleaned that from what I have written! The issue is because you know my beliefs you have decided for yourselves that I must be enjoying the report of him having a stroke. Shame on you! I can only get from that,. is IF a man you disagreed with had a similar episode that is how YOU yourselves would think. Says it all to be honest and proves the disingenuous nature of many of your posts.

Mr Dawkins has a reputation of being many things, none of these reputations has anything to do with me. Have you read his public feeds, there are better people than me who find his rhetoric less than amusing.

I thought many on here would find his attacks on islam divisive at best, if not just plain rude. But no of course shooting the messenger is easier than dissecting one of your more vocal own.

And hope Dick has a full recovery!

BTW my middle name is Richard and Dick is not a sly way of calling him!!

Cheers.....

I Hope he has a speedy recovery from his stroke and hope that his brush with mortality may have caused him to think that maybe life is short, death is certain and true or false he will eventually find out IF it makes a difference as to how one lived ones life.

I'm not so sure about God being like that anymore. I heard this interview with him, make your own mind up ;)
