We had a bush at the bottom of our "go carting" hill, better than any modern brakes![]()
Oh and a roller skate with a last years annual to sit on, the bush came in handy for stopping that too![]()

My thermals had never looked so good. What about the thermal printer?
oh. Sorry. It's all quite confusing now they've changed all the actors on New Tricks. I mean, which one's Brian Lane? The young 'uns today wouldn't know sergeant Carter from Terry McCann from Jerry Standing. It seems the original direction of this thread has veered, or even reversed,

That's because you went to the wrong school, not because of your age. I'm the same age and I did computer science for A level at my local state school.I'll be 53 next month. No computer studies when I was at school.
None of the schools in my area did computer studies, back then they all did the same classes apart from after school or lunchtime classes for Spanish or Latin. I didn't do A level's neither, I bypassed them. That's because you went to the wrong school, not because of your age. I'm the same age and I did computer science for A level at my local state school.
My school didn't have a computer either. But the University of Essex had one, and the Open University had one, and we had a modem, a paper tape punch and a card punch. What more does one need?I'm 53 and my school didn't have a computer when I left. But in 1978 there weren't many affordable computers available back then.
When I was at college during my apprenticeship, probably around 82, we had to learn how to write a machining program using paper tape. They didn't even have computer CAD/CAM at work all the time, all machining was done by copy mill or by the operator. When they did get CAD/CAM at around the same period, paper tape was obsolete. My school didn't have a computer either. BBC (And laterly BBC2 ) and ITV.
We had all the entertainment we needed.
To quote a line from Pink Floyd ( Late '79 ) Got thirteen channels of s*** on the T.V. to choose from.
Things never improved did they?![]()
Indeed, they got worse according to the Boss.![]()
Books!! (Well, not yet, but getting there).
Should I ever have children, which given my age and that I'm single seems unlikely, they will know books. My home is full of them.
My kids have never experienced not having YouTube. They actually watch it more than the TV
