Never lived in a world without....

We had a bush at the bottom of our "go carting" hill, better than any modern brakes :D

Oh and a roller skate with a last years annual to sit on, the bush came in handy for stopping that too :D

Eee a bush, times were ard in them days, we had to make do with a shrub !

Bushes. Shrubs.boots.... Try sandals and then ripping them clean in half, followed by a boot up the arse for not looking after them [emoji15] [emoji20]

10p?? it was a tanner when I were a kid ;)

It was three pence pronounced threpence when I was a kid;) We used to take the pop and beer bottles back to the offie, collect the cash then nip round the back of the shop and get more. When the owner realised what we were doing he chased us up the street

What about the thermal printer?
My thermals had never looked so good.
It seems the original direction of this thread has veered, or even reversed,

oh. Sorry. It's all quite confusing now they've changed all the actors on New Tricks. I mean, which one's Brian Lane? The young 'uns today wouldn't know sergeant Carter from Terry McCann from Jerry Standing.

Those pesky kids have also never known a world without the ultimate TV drivel...I'm a Celebrity......and Big Brother....Strictly!!! :runaway:

Just saw a promo for Dr Who and the obvious (youngster) question would be WTF is a Police Box?

I'll be 53 next month. No computer studies when I was at school.
That's because you went to the wrong school, not because of your age. I'm the same age and I did computer science for A level at my local state school.

The other day I had to explain to my kids what a telephone box was, they'd never seen one and the very thought of walking to s box and putting coins in it shocked them both !

None of the schools in my area did computer studies, back then they all did the same classes apart from after school or lunchtime classes for Spanish or Latin. I didn't do A level's neither, I bypassed them.

I'm 53 and my school didn't have a computer when I left. But in 1978 there weren't many affordable computers available back then.

My school didn't have a computer either. But the University of Essex had one, and the Open University had one, and we had a modem, a paper tape punch and a card punch. What more does one need?

When I was at college during my apprenticeship, probably around 82, we had to learn how to write a machining program using paper tape. They didn't even have computer CAD/CAM at work all the time, all machining was done by copy mill or by the operator. When they did get CAD/CAM at around the same period, paper tape was obsolete.

I don't know if we are drifting off topic, but we were still sending out data on punched tapes in 87 to companies that didn't yet have a magnetic tape drives.

But don't get me started on CAD/CAM.

Well when I say bush, it was more like a patch of stinging nettles.

Seems it was quite a common fund raiser :D

BBC (And laterly BBC2 ) and ITV.
We had all the entertainment we needed.
To quote a line from Pink Floyd ( Late '79 ) Got thirteen channels of s*** on the T.V. to choose from. ;)
Things never improved did they? ;)

Books!! (Well, not yet, but getting there).

Should I ever have children, which given my age and that I'm single seems unlikely, they will know books. My home is full of them.

Mine too.
I have a kindle, but I've never got a book on there that I already have the "real" version of, and I'd not get rid of them.

In the olden days people didn't used to say 'back in the day'. Which people have picked up from the Americans.

That would have only meant in the daytime.

My kids have never experienced not having YouTube. They actually watch it more than the TV
