Some lowlife has decided to smash my rear window in my new car......Autoglass have said it cant help as its sewn into the hood, any ideas as to who may help:shrug:
 
Sorry to here that m8 :(

Hopefully there'll be someone who'll be able to sort it, complete secondhand hoods are £££ (£300 or so +) and the cost of a new one would write the car off :shake:
 
Looks lika a complete hood as only Saab can repair them..........mad as ****** god help the scumbag if I find out who it was
 
try here mate

there is several companys that do this and there free so dont use the pay versions

basically you enter some details in a form with the part you need ,make , model , colour etc it will email all the breakers and if they have a part they will email back with price etc

worth a go
 
Have you looked into just getting a removable hard top version? Not as convenient but it stops the *******s coming along and putting a knife through the fabric, or again putting an object through the window.

thats what I hate about the wifes cabrio.
We pulled up at her parents (Hull), went inside for a brew & a chat, we came out less than an hour later and it had a deep scratch down the length of the fabric.

You have my sympathy - why the hell are some people so low? :shake:
 
They get nasty anytime of year to be honest. Beats me why some people have no respect for other peoples property. It's probably ingrained from a very early age. Parents don't chastise them for what they do to their own stuff so they grow up to belive it's ok to do the same to others. I've always brought my two sons up to have respect for their own stuff and if stuff belongs to someone else then don't even think about touching it let alone doing it.
 
Did a little bit of digging and the window is bonded not sewn into the hood and it doesn't look like a huge job to replace the glass. It's held in with a stuff called SIKAFLEX 221 BLACK POLYURETHANE SEALANT, which is about £7 delivered from Ebay.

Just need to source a cheap window now ;)
 
Do not want to sound unhappy but I am .......how the buggery does one remove the glass thats already bonded in............the glass shatters but leaves the frame held bits in place, the frame has to be cut out.








new hood like all say and If I catch the **** who did this he is dead
 
As for the sealant, paint thinners or something similar would remove it, but its pretty strong stuff. And I also don't know how if thinners may damage the hood at all.
 
Pete, after the joy of getting that motor and the pride of owning it, I am really annoyed that you have fell victim to the lowlife that is part of our society.

Bloody scum!! they do not want to work, they get kept by the taxpayer, they top up their "earnings" up with a little bit of theft on the side and when they have nothing else to do they ruin what honest people have worked for!!

Unfortunately we will never be rid of them because of the soft approach by the judicial system which allows them to just pass their behaviour on the the next generation and so on.

I feel really gutted for you mate and hope you get it sorted soon.

Grrrrrrrr must go make a cup of tea to calm myself down........

I'm really sorry to hear about this, I suggested in another thread that the stocks be bought back, i'm sure a punishment of all of us throwing rotten fruit at them in the unlikely event they're caught would be better than the community service they'll probably get.

Couldn't autoglass point you in the direction of someone that can fix it, try a local guy rather than the big nationals, you'll probably get more joy there, if you have fully comp insurance with glass cover they should pay whatever it costs to get it fixed without it affecting your NCB as glass is usually not classed as a claim.

I used to have an Audi A8 4.2, one of the other users on tyresmoke forum had a side window broken, they're double glazed, the autoglass guy showed him the bill £900 :eek:


Have you found a saab forum yet, there'll be one, you can't be the first to have this happen so someone on there will have an answer.

I feel totally gutted for Pete.....that car is his pride and joy ,he :love: it more than me :lol:
but really if I ever find out who did this they;ll have 2 broken legs and the rest
.So this mornings job is going to be taking photos of the glass ,inside and out and then trying to clean it up (as the police haven't appeared,which doesn't surprise me)
 
Pete, a hood is going to be a small fortune, I would definately recommend seeing if you can find a window and replacing. Start by trawling the bay, autotrader, loot, etc as well as online searches for saab parts specialists. Also, if its bonded not sewn, might be worth a trot through yellow pages to see if there any other auto glass companies in a 50 mile radius of you that can help.

As already suggested, also have a hunt round for any saab owners forums, they are usually a brilliant source for all manner of spare parts, advice and general cameraderie when it comes to owning a particular brand [just ignore any threads where owners are crying about the tree/lampost/armco that jumped out at them ;) ]

I have a tool (somewhere) for removing bonded in windscreens etc which is basically like a bit of cheese wire that you saw back and forth round the glass to release the adhesive. The pros use a heated version of the same thing, so a hot airgun or a hairdryer (at a push) might do the job. Best bet would be to contact a local independent winscreen fitter and see what they can do, unless you have a protected ncb in which case find a decent Autoglass branch and see if they have someone there that knows what they're doing...

About £700 plus fitting for an aftermarket one, probably well over £2k for the real deal :thumbsdown:

Out of interest, the guy from Autoglass told me it was £600 for the front screen for the MINI, everywhere else it is under £100....

I have had a word with a few Saab specialists and it seems its a new hood as the frame is bonded and sewn into both sides of the hood. thanks everyone though for the help so far and heres a pic of the actual damage caused by the scumbag

It has now been cleaned up and a poly sheet put across the hole, not an ideal solution but at least I can use the car
 
if it's fully comp a glass claim doesn't affect your NCB so just claim on your insurance

I am going to try that Darren but if the insurance pay out on glass damage thats great BUT if they see this as malicious damage they will probably write the car off as it would need to go into a saab specialist for a new hood and that would cost around £2500 from the saab dealers, so I will probably do the repair myself

Looking at where the glass sits it doesnt look a hard job to just bond another in place and it
certainly isnt a structural part so there shouldnt be any MOT issues
 
The place that Martin has found for me (thanks mate) does the whole replacement and mobile fitting service and does insurance work much cheaper than saab so I will be putting this to my insurance company tomorrow
