Bah, a mere baby thread, there's one in a similar vein over on detailingworld that's been running since 2 Nov last year, and is currently at 7,345 posts over 735 pages - http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=48264

Plus, there's a Part Two - even though the original is still running - that's at 800+ posts

One of my forums has a thread which is more than 400 pages long with more than 10,000 posts.....works fine, and it keeps everything on that one subject in one place......

It does help flow, for example when searching for certain things, it's easier to search a 1000 reply thread, rather than a 100,000 reply thread

Also, and mainly, its also server load. For example, if we need to copy a thread to a private staff area, the forum not only has to duplicate the thread, it has to duplicate the search information, add it to the index etc.

The larger the thread, the more memory it will need and it will put more strain on the MySQL server.
