Name that car- could a mod explain why it has been closed?

Hmm I see the thread has been split in to 2 and then both locked

It was huge ;)
Hence the ....Part 2 title ;)

Didn't realise it got to 1200 posts!

Is the 'part 2' intentionally locked then?

Yeah, c'mon Marcel - I'll have nothing to tax Dave's brain with when he gets home at this rate

Oops, crap, my bad.....When a mod moves posts out of a locked thread into a new one, the new one is locked by default....forgot to unlock it :p

i can see the natives coming up the hill with pitchforks and burning torches..

Wow at first I though that was 7,345 posts on how to wash and polish a car ;) But na just realised they were playing a game.

it just helps the forums flow better or something

One of my forums has a thread which is more than 400 pages long with more than 10,000 posts.....works fine, and it keeps everything on that one subject in one place......

It does help flow, for example when searching for certain things, it's easier to search a 1000 reply thread, rather than a 100,000 reply thread :D

Also, and mainly, its also server load. For example, if we need to copy a thread to a private staff area, the forum not only has to duplicate the thread, it has to duplicate the search information, add it to the index etc. :)

The larger the thread, the more memory it will need and it will put more strain on the MySQL server.

No it should be slacker errand boy, I'm still waiting for my slippers.
