When and why did Salt and Vinegar change from blue to green packets and vice versa for Cheese and Onion?

Whats next, prawn cocktail brown and smoky bacon pink?

I'm 46 years old....Walkers Cheese n Onion have always been blue (or at least a blue bit top and bottom when the bags were see-through....70's & early 80's).
Same with green for Salt n Vinegar.

Golden wonder are the other way around.

First question:

I think you used to get two types: with the bag of salt or not :) Salt and Shake are available again now with the bag of salt inside, Retro I guess - for old farts like me.

I thought it was just me!! Everyone always thought I was talking sh&t when I said this. Validation at last!

I thought Cheese and onion were in a green packet !

I think it was a brand thing. When I was younger G&W were the main player with crisps and their cheese and onion was green. Walkers are now top dog in the fried snacks arena and their cheese and onion is in blue packets!

Paprika Pringles come in yellow/orange tubes and CrunChips Paprika flavoured crisps come in big red bags. All other flavours suck!!! (Apart from the mixed vegetable crisps which come as salted only.)

Nonsense, Scampi Fries anyone!
Ah yes, always eat those when out on a first date then, when yer mates ask about your success later and which base etc, even if you got blown out, you just had to hold your fingers up and say "smell them" and wink knowingly.

What and they would declare you got nowhere and resorted to the old 'Scampi Fries Gag' again? ;)

Anyways back on track, I wonder why cheese and onion in particular are not in say yellow packaging. Tayto crisps are. Green seems to fit ok, S&V blue makes perfect sense. You bet there some odd rationale for it, anyone work for walkers?

It changed a long time ago, in the early 90s. I can certainly remember the change when I was in primary school.

Another great mystery, why do Smoky bacon crisps taste like chicken ( Mmmmm Chicken) flavoured?

Wokkle Paprika is the very best. Don't like Pringles. But fully agree, all other flavours suck.

When I have bought Crisps, I have never even thought about brand..normally just grab a green pack :)

Walkers have always been the colour they are now

Crisps are evil

Walkers always had the blue packet for Cheese & Onion and green for Salt & Vinegar for as long as I remember, but because it is so easily available in supermarkets whereas Golden Wonder's own version is much harder to get hold of, I've kinda got used to that colour scheme.

However, I am glad that my local Post Office's own mini shop still sell Golden Wonder Sausage & Tomato crisps which is my favourite, but their packet size - like just about everything else we buy these days - seem to have shrunk recently.

Yes it is Walkers that are to blame for the confusion, before they appeared on the scene in the mid 1980's all the major crisp brands used green/yellow for cheese & onion. Before their big advertising campaign during the 1986 World Cup, hardly anybody had ever heard of Walkers. It was that campaign that brought about their domination of the market and started the demise of Smiths.

They started in the 1940s.
I was a kid in the 70s and they were by far the most widely available.

Guess there must have been regional variations then, I'm a crisp addict and had never heard of them until the TV advertising :(

Golden Wonder Colours, and ONLY 20p a bag. Looks like Salt and Vinegar are not very popular.
