My turn to be outraged !

It's a simple matter of gentlemanly etiquette! Dunhill pipes, the best in the world, were specifically designed in the early years of the 20th century to smoke well while motoring. As for @Raptor Mike 's comment about New York taxis, does no one else have a proper gentleman's car with a division to separate you from your driver when desired? Or a Cabriolet de Ville where the driver sits out in the open? In which case just send the kiddies out there to sit with the staff and let them grow up among whatever fumes the outside world throws at them! :p

When I used to take Mrs Nod down to work (actually, when I was collecting her from same!), I used to see an old boy on a bike with a pipe clamped between his teeth. Hopefully he never ends up with it jammed down his throat.

Right thats it then, the kids can walk from now on. I'll meet them there.

Stop Press:

Parents to have their arms chopped off if cooking a BBQ while children are within the same County.

Government plans for parents to publicly have their arms surgically removed if they light up a BBQ while there are children within the same County.
Home Office spokesperson Ivor Bggun exclusively told The Mail today that the Government plan would not only be a boost to children's health, but would also help out hard pressed and broke doctors scavenging a living on just £120,000 a year.
"I'm convinced its a major contribution" Said Mr Biggun, adding "And it'll stop the Chavs next door making my bedsheets smell".

Agreed! Makes up for them loosing out cleaning chimneys. We didn't worry about the smoke from the fire while scrubbing half way up when I were a lad. Made us work faster!
Didn't have to worry about smoking in cars back then did they, cos there weren't cars lol

And when they did come along, it was sport, had to have some chap walk in front, took ages to catch up and run him over, but at least the rules were sporting, made the b****r carry a red flag so we couldn't loose sight of the peasant.....Happy days.

Your outrage and my pleasure.
Glad to have given you a little pleasure this evening
It should be a criminal offence to burn nerve-agent enriched substances.
Oh absolutely it should
But I fear for the government losing all that tax to fund
the less well off, students and a myriad of other projects :(

So I guess I am also outraged on behalf of the NHS, colleges / Uni's
etc that won't be getting the funding they need :(

Don't forget the £1.5 billon or whatever it is to the EU ;)

Before they do that they should ban old people from driving :0

Dead right, what's even more annoying is a old git in a BMW 730d F01 in white blacked out rears with 19" wheels doing 28 mph in a 30.

wearing one of these

That sounds like a hanging offence to me.
He's probably a drug dealer to :(

No, it's normally 40 in a national limit and 40 in a 30 around here.
True enough, we get the 40mph-ers "everywhere" around here too.
9/10 they are either wearing a flat cap or trilby as well
(I'd just thought I'd add a bit stereo type in case I haven't managed to offend every one yet tonight (y) )

Careful I resemble that remark.:runaway:

Smokers should be given a medal for the amount of tax they pay. Whilst I support a smoking ban in public, in private spaces like cars and homes where it effects no one else other than the drivers passangers, who cares...

Oh the children, will someone please think of the children. My mother is nearly 60 and her father smoked in their family car start to end of journey and she is with us cancer free.

Bloody liberals, even the Tories have gone liberal.

My dad smoked. My oldest sister died at 42, my mum and dad died of cancer, my other sister has had issues, all have been related to my dads smoking

I'm going to say the obvious but what about the liberties of non smokers. Why should they're health be damaged because someone else likes a fag? Unfortunately its a habit that doesn't just effect the person doing it. I'd like to ride my bike really fast but I'm not allowed to because bit could harm me or others. What's the difference?
How does my smoking in my own car affect you?

Sorry to hear that, but for every case like that, there are plenty who are ok with the side effects of passive smoking. Why not just ban smoking and alcohol (which I wouldn't be against) all together.

How is going to be enforced anyway.

For every "argument" the is a counter one though ;)
Both my parents smoked until they were about 60.
Dad died from a brain tumour at 70
Mum is alive and well she's 90 in couple of months.

BTW I just like the option of making it kid-free too.
Thats the safest bet TBH,
No screaming, no puke, no spilled juice or sweets stuck to the seats.

Although you do realise we are doing Mike out of a job here,
by putting them on a roof rack?
Sorry @Raptor Mike :D

Result, Sarah!!!

You smoking in your car doesn't effect me personally, thank God. But what about others. If you don't share your car then fair enough. I know its YOUR car but if you are going to give anyone a lift you should inform them if you will be smoking in the car so they can refuse. If you take children then you shouldn't smoke in your car at all. I worry though that people will put up with smokers in cars through fear of being rude. I do think SOME smokers can be very selfish though, as long as they can have their fag, which isn't cool anymore, screw anyone else.

I agree about the children, I have been a smoker for years but have never smoked indoors (except in pubs, but not in restaurants) and not in the car when our kids were young. However I do now smoke in my car and if anyone wants to walk or get the bus rather than ride in my car they can.

And that IMHO is fair enough.
