My turn to be outraged !

It's a simple matter of gentlemanly etiquette! Dunhill pipes, the best in the world, were specifically designed in the early years of the 20th century to smoke well while motoring. As for @Raptor Mike 's comment about New York taxis, does no one else have a proper gentleman's car with a division to separate you from your driver when desired? Or a Cabriolet de Ville where the driver sits out in the open? In which case just send the kiddies out there to sit with the staff and let them grow up among whatever fumes the outside world throws at them! :p

When I used to take Mrs Nod down to work (actually, when I was collecting her from same!), I used to see an old boy on a bike with a pipe clamped between his teeth. Hopefully he never ends up with it jammed down his throat.

And when they did come along, it was sport, had to have some chap walk in front, took ages to catch up and run him over, but at least the rules were sporting, made the b****r carry a red flag so we couldn't loose sight of the peasant.....Happy days.

the less well off, students and a myriad of other projects :(

So I guess I am also outraged on behalf of the NHS, colleges / Uni's
etc that won't be getting the funding they need :(

Smokers should be given a medal for the amount of tax they pay. Whilst I support a smoking ban in public, in private spaces like cars and homes where it effects no one else other than the drivers passangers, who cares...

Oh the children, will someone please think of the children. My mother is nearly 60 and her father smoked in their family car start to end of journey and she is with us cancer free.

Bloody liberals, even the Tories have gone liberal.

My dad smoked. My oldest sister died at 42, my mum and dad died of cancer, my other sister has had issues, all have been related to my dads smoking

Sorry to hear that, but for every case like that, there are plenty who are ok with the side effects of passive smoking. Why not just ban smoking and alcohol (which I wouldn't be against) all together.

How is going to be enforced anyway.

For every "argument" the is a counter one though ;)
Both my parents smoked until they were about 60.
Dad died from a brain tumour at 70
Mum is alive and well she's 90 in couple of months.

You smoking in your car doesn't effect me personally, thank God. But what about others. If you don't share your car then fair enough. I know its YOUR car but if you are going to give anyone a lift you should inform them if you will be smoking in the car so they can refuse. If you take children then you shouldn't smoke in your car at all. I worry though that people will put up with smokers in cars through fear of being rude. I do think SOME smokers can be very selfish though, as long as they can have their fag, which isn't cool anymore, screw anyone else.

I agree about the children, I have been a smoker for years but have never smoked indoors (except in pubs, but not in restaurants) and not in the car when our kids were young. However I do now smoke in my car and if anyone wants to walk or get the bus rather than ride in my car they can.
