It shouldn't. The screw itself is firm and tightens assuringly. There is a metal pin as well as the electronic socket/connection which need to be align. Once looked down, there should be no movement at all. Hope this helps.Will - did you buy an MB-D12?
If you did, does it flex slightly against the D810 body (when lining up the shot on a tripod)?
