My experience with Jessops so far

Hi all,

I hope this is the right place to post this. I just wanted to post my thoughts on a recent Jessops order I have placed.

I placed a rather substantial order with them on 1st November. 4 items in total, including a Canon 35L F1.4. I paid a large deposit and did the remainder on finance, which is all agreed.

Now, 3 of the items are in stock, but the Canon 35L is out of stock and on 'special order'. It states delivery should be within 28 days. Fair enough, but when I placed the order I (wrongly) assumed that I would received in stock items straight away....wrong! I called them and was told this, and I offered to pay extra postage so they could post them, and they refused. I really don't understand this. They've taken my deposit from my account, they have the confirmation from the finance company, and they have the stock, why can't I have my items?

Also, I've called their customer service team now a total of 5 or 6 times. Useless! A guy called Francis has promised to call me back twice and he has never called me back, and now every time I call for him he is conveniently unavailable (tried about 3 or 4 times now). I now always get through to a guy called Rob who is no help whatsoever.

I've asked multiple times how long it will be for the 35L to come in as they tell me the order is placed with their supplier, but they keep changing the times from "next week some time", to "within 28 days", to "we don't know". The general information provided from them is crap.

So basically, 18 days after ordering, I'm £600 lighter in the pocket, finance is agreed for £xxxx amount, and I have no items.

I just needed to get it off my chest really, and to share my experience. Moral of the story, don't assume things when placing orders :(

Cancel the 35L, get the rest of the order then either go elsewhere or re-order with Jessops

As is said "assume made an ass out of you and me" all done it and sometimes these things just seem plain crazy.

Trouble with that is, if I cancel the 35L I risk not actually being able to get it again elsewhere as the reason I went with Jessops in the first place is the 12 months interest free finance.

I know it ultimately comes down to me needing to wait, I'm just impatient as I am ridiculously excited about the new gear :p

If its on 'special order' then it is likely to be 28 days at least......speaking from personal experience.....but I did in the end get a Sigma 100-300 f4 for half price due to a website pricing error

Hmm. I think that might be against the Distance Selling Regulations to take money before an item is ready to dispatch.

It's pretty poor customer service. Don't they have any of the delayed items in stock elsewhere? I'd definitely cancel that off and either re order with them or re order with someone else.

Cancel the order and threaten to get Trading Standards involved. Dont budge, and get them to give you a further discount or some freebies to compensate for the hassle and poor service.

I really don't want to cancel the order as I've been rejected for credit cards and finance a few times in the last couple of years. I think I got accepted this time around because my financial circumstances have changed recently. So yeah, I don't want to risk missing out completely on the items. I can easily manage the monthly payments for 12 months, I just can't pay for it all now. Hope that makes sense.

I'm just going to ring them every other day for updates.
