I can't even imagine. We're having a cancer scare with my mum at the moment and that is bad enough. My thoughts are with you

Oh no, I hope all gets sorted quickly we had that scare a couple of years back with my sister but thrust far it was successfully treated

A lovely way to remember your Mum Matt, I lost mine 11 years ago & my Dad 10 months before that & still have the odd emotional moment. You do start to remember just the happy times though.

Thanks Sarah, as you say not really one to ever truly get over :( but it can and will get better

Awww sad but such a lovely way to remember your mum :hug2:

I know how you feel mate, it's my little bro's anniversary on Monday, and were going to NMA as we've had a tree planted in memory of him.... Chin up buddy, just remember then good times..

Yep it does get better, best advice I was given was just to talk about them & remember good times.

That's what you've got to try and do I think :)

Oh mate, glad you've got a tree up there for him and hope all goes well on monday

Day 60 - More Memories

Mum always loved to have flowers round the house, so my auntie brought some round yesterday, this evening I thought that I should feature them as my POTD as I still in that kind of mood at the moment, but the build up to something spectacular is coming as I need to celebrate my 800th photo in a little over a week

Some nice colours in there Matt, I like the composition but I wonder if it needed a little moor dof? Unless the upload has played games with it.

Have you seen this by the way? Could well be a good view from the windmill

What it could have done with is me not being a lazy arse, I should have either shot it with flash or got my tripod out both in the car :bang: that would have allowed me to use something other than f/2.8 and a highish ISO :bang:

I have seen that a photographer friend from the US posted it on facebook this morning, I think if it's clear you can be certain I'll be out ;)

Day 61 - Stars inSpired

It was the first properly clear evening that we've had this year that was perfect for star trails so I couldn't pass up the chance to do a little star trail :)

This church is in the tiny little village just south of Warwick the county town of Warwickshire it's a wonderful church if a little hard to do justice without a true Ultra Wide Angle lens

This is. 130 x 30 second exposure based on 30s @ ISO2000 / f/4.5 stacked using StarStaX

Ohh, do like the star trails Matt. This is something I really have to try soon.

Never tried this, but what are the diagonal lines coming down from the top right hand corner?

You should give it a go Phil  the best advise I can give you would be take someone with you even if it's a non tog as someone to talk to over the 1-2 hours will make that time pass so much quicker :) oh and give my guide a good read :D

That would be aircraft :) I only bother to take the really prominent ones out :D

does this need some lens correction as the steeple looks to be leaning a lot to me????

Yes it does but due to the nature of the location it's just not possible, not to mention I've already buggered up the composition on this one :bang: god I need to buy a 16-35 :(

Something I've never tried, but this year I really must have a go. Will just have to scope out a good location with not too much light pollution.
Ok you've got the verticals converging on this, but I like it.

Give it a go  but you shouldn't worry about getting that far from the light pollution though the further you get away the better :D this was shot approx 10-15 miles from central brum, glad you like it

Super star trail Matt, is there much differnce in using iso 2000 to anything lower, in terms of the number of stars being picked up by the sensor?

Your picking up quite a few of the dimmer starts  the next time its clear, I'll shoot some comparison photo's

Awesome photography once again Matt

Thanks Buddy, the composition could have been a little better thought ;)

I love star trails and this one works really well on the whole!

Thanks Toni, glad that you like it :D have you done any star trails?

I haven't! I live right in the inner city (5 minute up the road from the main city center) so always thought I'd have no luck (light pollution etc?).. the perks of Edinburgh is that wide open spaces are never too far away but I have no form of transport other than my own 2 legs!

If you check out my signature there is my guide to star trails, as a part of that guide there is a link to the guide by Andrew (AndWhyNot) on doing urban star trails, they can be very effective, obviously they are harder then getting out into the middle of nowhere and your never going to get nut's milkyway shots in the middle of the city but you'd be astonished as to what is actually possible

Stunning Matt!

Thanks T :D

Lovely colours in that windmill sunset, it's a great image.

Sorry to hear about your mum, but I like how you lit a candle for her. A lovely tribute, and the flowers look great too.

That star trail church image is just EPIC!

Thought it was something to do with that, just couldnt remember lol. I have only ever stuck to 800 on my 30d and 50d, will have to give it a try at higher iso.

I'll still shoot an example the next time I'm out as I'm sure it will be a great demo for my guide

Thanks Tim, glad that you like the photo's and as to the candle I decided that I'll be lighting one every year for her

Day 62 - At Heart

I decided to shoot this one today, truth be told I had a really cool idea for a photo but the light wasn't any good for that today because of that I didn't even get the camera out on location because it would have been a waste of time...

So that brought this photo into existence and I think that this works quite well  I like the DoF on this :D
