Congrats on you getting your 5D111, and L lens Matt, bet your well chuffed with them, not having full frame cat comment on how shallow the DOF is on them, like the flowers shot, look forward to seeing more

And here's the man who was telling me a few months ago that he didn't think he needed any other camera than a 450d :) if we meet up at the next midlands meet and your camera suddenly turns into a 7d it wasn't me. I might go for a used mk2 as a second body should be coming down a bit in value now. you lucky Sod.

Thanks Dave, I'm really loving it, we will have to do some side by side comparison at TPCon  you will be seeing a lot of photo's from it, I may even break my end of season suspension and do an out of season light trail to test it out

Well what can I say, I challenge you if your given the opportunity for an upgrade not to take it :naughty: don't forget that we have a meet this weekend is the rescheduled SVR meet

Nice looking pic Matt. Congrats on the new kit. Really like the colour in there. Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Michael, I tell you what the way that it renders colours and DoF is sublime  the colours are so rich and the DoF so smooth  I'm currently head over heals in love with this camera and lens combo  you will see more in this thread as I'm sure the 450D is going to sit in the bag for quite a while :suspect:

Day 109 - Brightness on a Dull Day

I found this field of Oilseed Rape that had this quite interesting tree in the middle of it and thought that it would make for a nice photo  this field was once part of the Ethorpe Park estate which explains the rather unusual tree for the Warwickshire countryside

Basic settings: 1/8000th - f/2.8 - ISO500

Hi Matt, that has worked really well for me, I love the dof in there, the placement of the tree gives a great impact on the image.

Thanks Michael  I'm pleased that you like it as this I know could be a bit Marmite but it was the idea that I had as soon as I saw the scene

Day 110 - Gorgeously Golden

Well most of the flowers in the garden have been hit quite hard by recent cold nights this small patch of Daffodils seem to be loving it

110/366 (475) by mwhcvt, on Flickr

I though that I'd test out the higher ISO performance on this photo, so this was shot at ISO3200 and I think that you'll agree it hold it well  other settings were f/7.1 and 1/1250th

I'm still getting my head around all of the settings but I'm really loving the DoF of full frame

I very much like the tree from the other day - interesting composition.

As to full frame, having had the original 5D I don't think I could go lower than a 1.3 crop now, its just too nice and the 5D3 looks great - although I'm banned from mentioning it in my house now having bored the poor wife to death, although I do sneakily call it the Digit Number Digit :D

Thanks John, I suspect that everyone that comes into contact with me is getting bored of me talking about cameras now, but I really am loving it I just have to start saving for some more lens to go on it now

I'm pleased you like my tree from yesterday, I was trying to do something a bit different and I think that it came off well  I personally cannot help being impressed with today's one, I know it's not a rare subject  but I used it as a test of ISO and on the 450D I tried to avoid being over ISO400 for this kind of shoot but this was ISO3200 and I'm positive it's cleaner than ISO200 on my 450 :suspect:

Yes, thats one of the two things that draw me to the mark 3, currently I tend to stop at about 1600 on my 1DIII, 800 on my older bodies, that and of course the AF system which although I've yet to see someone compare it to the 1DIII I suspect its going to be close enough so I wouldn't notice.

Hi Matt,

Just checking in you've done some really nice images over the last few weeks. Keep up the good work - Nick

That would make for an interesting comparison, I'd be up for doing it the next time I'm in your part of the world  unless your going to the Talk Photography Convention  the ISO performance is stunning :D though it's another thing for me to get used to getting out of the mindset of must stay between 100-400

Hi Nick, I'm pleased that even after this time your still liking what I'm putting up  hope your well

Matt

That 3200 looks excellent, way better than my 30d!

I personally think that the 5D3 is better at ISO3200 than my 450D at ISO400  I'm pleased you like the image  I'm just sat here trying to think of something to have as my POTD for today

Day 111 - Dreaming Defender

I found this wonderful Land Rover Defender 110 while out for a drive looking for my photo or today and like how it was parked up with Warwickshire laid out below it, dreaming on it's next adventure :D

111/366 (476) by mwhcvt, on Flickr

I went for a low point of view to really give it an imposing look and to really set it off and because I don't do enough B&W work I went for a gritty/contrasty conversion to fit the rough and tough nature of the Defender

Day 112 - Blue Gold

I went off on the hunt for a bit of blue bell action with Darrell (thedodo) it looks like there is still a fair wait until we have the field of blue under the tree's like I'm hoping for but I did find these ones that the late afternoon sun was lighting up really well

Cheers Phil, I'm over the moon with today's photo  I think that it's best one I've taken with the new camera yet :woot: it's so sharp it's unreal :D I'm please that your still liking what you find :D

Matt

Hi Matt, I am falling behind on my commenting. Pleased to hear about your new camera. I wish I had a full frame.

I love the daffodil and rape shots. Daffodils are particularly difficult to get the DOF right and you have cracked it with that photo.

Yes, the bluebells are really slow this year. I have never known a spring like it.

Keep up the good work

Jenny

Like it Matt, nice BG bokeh,

I thought that you'd like that one Dave, I think that it's one of my highlights of the year, I've just got in from this months TP meet and Severn Valley Railway, I've had a lot of fun and I've now got to go through the photo's to pick out and edit my POTD, I think I've got about 10GB to look through and I wasn't even machine gunning it

He is definitely a happy man at his job. Good shot Matt, checked out some of the other SVR threads in the Transport section and it looks like you all had a good day.

We did it was a fantastic day, it got a little wet occasionally but that didn't dampen anyone's spirits  I've got nearly 10Gb of photo's to process from the day  I'm pleased you like it as soon as I'd taken it I know it was my POTD

Matt

Lovely Bluebell Matt, nice and sharp. Really like the SVR shot for today, looks like a good meet.

Thanks Michael, I'm very pleased with the Bluebell  and the meet was brilliant I knew it was going to make my POTD as soon as I saw it on the back of the camera

Matt

I really like Day 109, great focusing and definitely something a little different.
The last shot is fantastic as well. I love that facial expression.

Matt

I love the train shot, Matt. Great composition  You are right - he really enjoys his job.

Jenny

Thanks Jenny, I'm just sorting out my POTD for today, the weather and light gods really haven't smiled on me today, but I've still got something :D

Love the happy train man!

Thank you and welcome to TP

Day 114 - The Tower

This is the old church tower for the hamlet of King's Newnham, the rest of the church was demolished in 1795 when the religious activities were transfer to the church across the other side of the Avon Valley to the church at Church Lawford

The light today has been as flat and dull as light can be so with this I used the old fence as a lead in to the tower, but as the fence was not that great/interesting I used a rear biased DoF to bring the foreground areas OOF

Day 115 - Standing out in the Crowd

When is a Bluebell not a Bluebell....when it's a Whitebell :D this one is standing out from the crowd of Blues in the background, so I though that I'd have a photo of this example as my POTD, as you can see there are a number of Blues surrounding this White

Nice Matt makes a change from the bluebells

Cheers Dave, I though so too :D though you can see that the blues are trying to get in on the action

Matt

Nice one, Matt. Our white ones are not out yet. Still waiting. I hope they come out before the end of my challenge.

Jenny

Thanks Jenny, this one is in a little corner of my garden and I suspect that it's in it's only little micro climate as things are always early in this part of the garden :D

Like it mate...!! :)

Cheers Jason :D
